@balmedie2k10 Blue plate is junior (JICA) rookie. Its a JICA engine with a 19mm restrictor plate on it, at a later stage they ran a smaller carb. A choked JICA could sound like a TKM I guess haha.
Its not a TKM though, for sure. I saw every one of the karts there first hand. TKM wasn't raced in Ireland. Also remember most TKMs back then were direct drive too, so you'd need to add a clutch to run it in JICA. Even at that, it would get smoked by a JICA engine so there'd be no point.
RE: Minimax: In 1997 Max wasn't around let alone minimax. Max class was introduced in Ireland in 2001 IIRC. With some people playing about with them in '99 & '00.
Its mixed footage of the weekend. Classes include 80cc cadets (8-12years old), 100cc classes of different power from 18-36BHP, 125CC ICC shifters and twin engine 4 strokes.
Heck of a wreck at 3:57! I was amazed there were still so many drivers in at the end of the race. Guess as long as you can get it running again, you can get back in? Shame the top two wiped out at the end. This was a lot of fun to watch. Thanks to ahunt440 for marking this as a favorite! Thanks to polyC for posting!
yeh man look at 40.0 secs in the vid blue numbers and sounds like a tkm

@balmedie2k10 TKM was never raced in Ireland. I'm curious where you see or hear one. Its probably just a JICA running bad LOL.

This is back when karting was proper... 100cc two strokes, air cooled. None of this KF and Rotax rubbish we have now.

Yep the newer Comer Cadet engines are 80cc. The ones that we ran in the 90's were comer S60's

Neil Shanahan. Not Niall. Apologies
polychomaticzena 5 years ago
I dont know his name (must find out) It was one of the Kartparts lads from NI. He wrecked a brand new Tony Extreme and broke his ankle.
It was 100 national alright. Some drivers in there include: Niall shanahan, Alan Dywer, Micheal Keohane and Emmett O'Brien.
