@ArisHellenicForce You do realize that this film was nowhere near historically accurate and didn't even try to be? Tarantino was just having fun with the time period, not making a serious film.

As for specifics about the war, must I remind you that every single participant committed at least a few war crimes? Russians included, and then remember Stalin? the Gulag? People getting "dissapeared"? Don't rant about propaganda, child, we can all tell the difference. Just relax and enjoy the music.

In his description in the screenplay it says the scar is from surviving a lynching. He mentions moonshining near the end of the film, so I guess Tarantino just wanted us to kind of put two and two together.
