  • Oops, apologies for my misspellings. My iPad has a mind of its own.

  • Has anybody else noticed how he pronounces "tutto"? He says "tut-oh" instead of "toot-oh. In every opera I've seem in in he has pronounced it that why. It's very annoying. :p

  • Muito bom mesmo!!!

  • Parece que le gustó mucho besar a la Fleming! jajaj

    Muy bien cantado y actuado!

  • THE BEST Alfredo around hands down

  • In this performance yes, but not in Zürich, 24.05.2010, there, it was terrible.

Sorry, he is destroying his voice.

  • Villazon ? No , mr .Bean !!! Ha ha ha ha ,

  • Sorry but Villazon is like Mr. Bean here .

  • I usually LOVE her, but she sounds a little flat to me here, and her vibrato is fluttery. Actually--I guess she sounds like she's dying of tuberculosis. ha. And he sounds so much more present. Balance is off. Not my favorite. Carreras/Scotto!!!

  • I agree, but Domingo and Cotrubas were better.

  • He's struggling. She's faking.

  • Que hermoso cantan Villazón y Fleming!!!

  • ladies and gentleman you can see the new Callas of the 21st century.....

  • Simplemente perfección!!!

  • Rolando sings and performances with so much feelings and his voice is so beautiful and emotional and touches my heart and my soul !

  • Rolando is such a great, great Alfredo !!! <3

  • Don't you just love how Renee takes control on her very FIRST line and slows the tempo to what it should be? Man, this woman is spectacular. And if you close your eyes, Rolando is definitely an excellent Alfredo.

  • wow she does do that. sneaky renee ;)

  • Have any of you that are giving crappy comments listened to either of these singers in other things Feming is simply devine def on parr with callas!! Villazon admitedly isnt my fave tenor but he does ok, yes we live in a pop culture now but have any of you been to a live opera reciently ???If you go to those you will realise that opera singers are still alive and well. Go listen to some live stuff people at the opera houses where it was origionally ment to be heard and THEN form an opinion.

  • awful

  • What?

  • you have no clue

  • Jose Carreras & Renata Scotto

They take some beating, if only his voice had lasted a little longer!

  • I LOVE this! Where is Villazon now? Is he singing or recovering or what? What a wonderful couple! They kind of balance eachother energies. And so musical, classy, acting good, everything! What do you mean she looks old? She does not, that's what is funny!

  • Villazón seems to be very well at the moment. I've seen him live two times this years: in Cologne (Concert "Cielo e mar") and in Berlin (Lensky) and he was very, very good. He also did an outstanding "Hoffmann" and a great "Bohème" a few weeks ago.His voice seems to be even more beautiful than before.

  • Villazón piensa que por sobreactuar canta mejor, pero nada más lejos de la realidad. Al menos Mr. Bean tiene algo de gracia.

  • Fleming looks like Villazon¨s grandmother!lol

  • I prefere Netrebko

  • One of the most beautiful parts of this entire opera. It's probably the only part where neither Violetta nor Alfredo hold anything back emotionally.

  • This is my favorite song from La Traviata. Bittersweet. Dynamic. Lovely.

  • Ni qué decir: la mejor Traviata de la historia es la de Sutherland y Pavarotti, una verdadera joya... no se podía esperar menos del más grande entre los grandes.

  • Nice! I do want to buy the DVD. He sounds quite good, no Pavarotti, but quite good. Renee is her usual very good self here.

  • there is no next Pavoratti its like saying the next Jordan. Every voice is unique and thats the way it will always be. The only way way to have the next Pav is to clone him

  • Thank you for posting this! Now I know, I will go and buy the DVD :-)

  • Villazon enunciates so beautifully here, Bravo!

Renee's voice at the end of such a difficult opera is as fresh and rich and opulent as at the begging. Brava Renee.

  • They're both brilliant, aren't they? Couldn't agree with you more... Villazon is a wonderful tenor, to console us for the loss of Pavarotti.

  • im not sure if he is the next pavaroti but his singing here has such enormous musicality and they both follow the stacati of the orchestra by using a semi-stacato way of phrasing (pin-pointing every syllable) It is FABULOUS SINGING, extremely well cultured voices.

  • ever since callas died every single new (and older like even Scotto lol) singer was the new callas. I personally believe that Pavarotti was the greatest tenor of the 20th century. We wont be seing a voice such as his soon...

  • You're right, but notice that I didn't fall into the trap of calling him 'the next Pavarotti' - I hate that kind of label. I just thought 'At least the future of opera isn't as grim as some people say...'. I love this performance more each time I see it: I MUST try to get the DVD!

  • Griiiim? Opera today has FANTASTIC VOICES... dont listen to 100 year-old gays who want to believe that Opera will die because we will all die someday! Today, atrocious singers of the past like Milanov and Cigna and etc etc wouldnt step foot into big houses and thank God! Nature is evolving my friend whether they want it or not ;)

  • Is there anyone else you would like to insult while attempting to make your point? Is ther eno other way or is this your normal MO?

  • well,my friend, i'm not 100, but i do think, that nowadays we don't have great singers anymore! there are some with a nice voice, but they can NEVER sing like maria callas, claudia muzio, pavarotti, kraus...

now we have the television and the internet and with the technology it's so easy to make an impression as a singer. look at potts, brightman, netrebko!

it's more important to have a beautiful face which can be used for advertising

  • well, my friends you are a victim of the general opinion. You read those! who read the stupid critics too much, but always keep in mind how the critics were describing callas when she first appeared on stage ;) Dont listen to them, try to form your own opinion

  • than "must" see Bulent Bezduz's performance .He is one of the best Alfredo today.Very promising young tenor .

La Traviata - Bulent Bezduz (2)

Bezduz, Silver - Parigi o cara "La Traviata

  • zafireh, you are right.

Dame Joan & Pav disgrace these 2. Villazon slaughters this aria. He certainly sounds like he needs to recover from something, like no talent. He's awful. Verdi would roll over in his grave.

We are now in the Britney Spears, "Pop Culture" era of Opera. Beautiful singing is irrelevant and obsolete. Only physical beauty & six packs count. But if anyone wants to hear how beautiful this aria really is, listen to the version by Pav & Sutherland. They "own" it.

  • Jose Carreras & Renata Scotto! As good as any!

  • Pavarotti does not have anybody "next"..

But Villazon is young, fantastic musician -singer and just gorgeous.....

  • There will never be another Pavarotti. No one will ever be able to match the passion in his voice. Pav didn't have to jump around the stage - his voice said it all - he knew it and we knew it. And that was the miracle of The Maestro.

  • Dee, you've said the greatest truth! Nobody like Pavarotti, ever!

  • There is no right and wrong only truth and you speak it....

  • Lovely acting and singing by the two.

  • Beautiful, heartbreaking music from Verdi as Violetta and Alfredo pitifully try to fight the knowledge that she is dying. Very well sung by Fleming and Villazon - consummate artistry.

  • oh!!! how lucky i am.. this video has just been added!.. i'm the first one watching it!! thanx for posting it!!!!! .. thank u very much!! two of my favourite singers!
