  • I have the same one as well, colour including :)

  • Sorry Gentlemen, but that color was called PEWTERBURST

It first appeared in 1989 on the very first strat plus models.

Came on both rosewood and maple fingrboard strats.

  • does the "plus" sound any different than other strats?

  • @foulis The pickups are gold Lace sensors, so it does sound a little different than a standard Strat equipped with Fender pickups.

  • I have a 1991 Strat Plus with the makers name inside the neck well in the body - A Chavez who went on to work in the Custom Factory setup.

The colour is 'Black Pearl Dust' which is supposed to be fairly rare.

Mine has a maple fretboard and new lace pickups - in Blue - Silver - Red.

  • @Almo2504 It's good to finally know the actual color. I've never had the neck off, but maybe someday I'll check that out.

  • I have the same one :) If I remember right?? the colour was called grey burst :) and there was a blue one :)

  • like shockme25159 i have the same guitar! mine it's 1995 , the same color! love it.

  • Got the SAME EXACT guitar.. Right down the the colour, year, and rosewood fretboard.. They're nice, aren't they?

  • It's one of my favorites. I think the Lace sensors are a big part of it, but the neck is great too. An all around good guitar.

  • Yeah. The Lace Sensors are my favourite pickups (single coil) ever

  • I bought a Strat Plus the first year they were out and haven't modded it at all except to update the roller nut to the later model (to accept heavy bottom strings).

I miss the rasp and -- believe it or not, broader tone spectrum -- of my old 70s Telecaster, but that G and B strings were incurably dead.

But I do love my Strat Plus, and my 2003 made-in-Germany Hofner Jazzica archtop, which can be sweet as honey or powerful as a sledgehammer. To each his own.

  • I was shocked the first time I tried to string it with 11s. Dangs! But it really is a nice sounding guitar. The gold lace sensors are great. The old Clapton signature model used to use them.

  • wow....what a bunch of ungrateful...

Hey thanks for the vid, after watching this and a few others, i decided to get a strat plus!

  • Pick up a Reverend while you're at it! The Flatroc is nice.

    Thanks for understanding though.

  • RE: REVEREND: I was so impressed with Reverends... the tech and the idea of them on paper... but when I went shopping for one I was extremely disappointed. They felt too fragile for me, and the necks were all much bigger than I was comfortable with.

    To each his own.

  • Well, I will if you promise to buy a guitar! These were just quick and dirty for someone who wanted to compare a few guitars. Better than nothing (I think), but not the best, I know. Hey, if you have a mic, send it to me and I'll use it. I'll send it back with the guitar or amp you buy.

  • get a mic, and do some vids with better sound. please :D

  • You're welcome. I hope you also appreciated the lack of searing lead lines and lightning arpeggios. I don't do too well at those.

  • yep, thanks for demo-ing the sound of the guitars rather than just showin' off! Long live Backyard Guitars.

  • I just went to your user page. Long live Phil Keaggy! He's awesome. And thanks for the kind words and support.

  • @BackyardGuitars What color is it? is it plain black or flaky? the lights are tricky

  • letterbekmen, It's a slightly flaky black to gray fade. I remember seeing some with blue instead of gray back when the model was in production.

  • thnaks for just showing the guitar clean
