that snake is not venemous, but still, what kind of fucking moron tries to get a snake to eat golf balls, then says oh i hope it doesnt die from eating that golf ball, but thats how they learn. the first thing you need to do is GET A FUCKING BRAIN, Do you really thing that non venomous snakes LEARN? THATS OBSURD, the only snakes capable of learning even the simplest things are cobras, and mambas. Also what makes you think a snake would survive eating a golf ball... you should go eat one, plz
Like the video. Glad you didn't kill the snake, he probably was looking for mice and found some tasty eggs. One way to tell if an egg is fresh is to put it in water, if it floats, don't eat it. If it sinks, it should be okay.
@armystrong9997 Actually, no. I've never had that problem. Don't be disappointed, though. I'm sure that with a little help you can become as smart, if not smarter than the average ten year old. By the way, "venimous" should be spelled with an "O", not an "I" as you suggest. Next time make sure your level of intelligence surpasses that of who you wish to belittle. I pitty you, ignorant fuck.

I see you on Jamendo, but not this song. I would like to link to A Time for Peace on this video, if there is a place folks can download it at. I will go enjoy your other songs!
Thank you for this encouraging, positive video! Informative. I must take issue with one thing, however. As a fellow animal lover, I find it irresponsible on your part to 1. Use the golf balls as a predator deterrent before taking the time to find out how it will actually affect the snake (it could've been excruciatingly painful), and 2. building a chicken enclosure so insecure that a snake that size could ever get in in the first place. Does the wire go 1ft. underground? Is the top enclosed?
When my grandmother was a little girl there was a snake eating up eggs. It took her a while but she finally convinced her dad to carve a wooden egg. Some time later they found a dead snake around a fence pole with that wooden egg still in it's belly.
Don't know why that one wasn't as lucky as your snake here, but worth a try as at very least a deterrent.
Too funny about the snake puking up the golfball LOL :)
That said I have to ask where do the chickens live? I saw they roost in trees. They might last a week where I live if they did that. I had grand visions of free ranging my chickens but between owls, hawks, raccoons, possums, and more unfortunately EVERYTHING likes to eat chicken LOL :) I know lock them up at night and let them out in the morning.
Now our chickens are enclosed in the coop with an attached sun yard. A multi-year drought has depleted all forage so the chickens are having to be contained and fed (grain and veggie scraps) while we hope that some bugs other than ants will breed and some grass will grow.
I'm just personally against and sort of cannibalism for livestock. There are infections transmitted through cannibalism (encephalopathy), though none discovered so far from eggs that I am aware, just spinal cord and brain. Still, its more of a safety issue for the chicken for me.
Spongiform Encephalopathy comes from consuming same-specie proteins called prions which destroy nerve and brain cells. These are mostly found in the brain matter and spinal cord material. They are however not found in egg shells. I do not see how it can hurt and, besides, many birds consume egg shells for the calcium. You may go ahead and give the shells.
No, that does not cause cannibalism! It is caused by when there becomes an open wound, and they pick at it out if curiosity, and also if there is a lack of some kind of mineral they need. Have a good one.
Hello there, I'm looking to raise a few chickens in the near future and just had a few questions. I'm not sure what the climate is like where you live, but in the winter, if it gets quite cold, are the chickens capable of staying warm on their own? What is a good ratio of hen(s) to rooster(s) to start out with? How much roaming space would a chicken need in order to be comfortable? Thanks, any information would be much appreciated, I really want to go about this the right way.
I live in a rural non-city neighborhood where everyone does whatever they want. In most cities your neighbors can get you in trouble with "code compliance" if the chickens are loud before 6 am or whatever the laws are in that city. Some cities have bans on chickens, it just depends on where you live. Look into it.
but what if the dog gets it?! It's not a bad snake. The last time we caught one we accidentally killed it, well it killed itself trying to get out of the cage pictured above. :( Haven't seen one since.
hey. would u know why my chickens fight? i went to let them out of the barn this morning and one of them ripped the other ones head open..i only have 2. so space isnt an issue..
Maybe they hate each other. I have a couple of hens who will fight like crazy if enclosed together. I bet one of them is a jerk to the other but it's hard to tell who starts it. Sorry you only have two chickies.
I'm getting chicks this June and I'm getting "pullets" which are supposed to be mainly female because I don't want any males. If I do get a male, how do you know if the egg is fertilized so you don't eat it? How long do you have to wait for candling to show something?
If you are not morally opposed to eating another organism, it is okay to eat a fertilized egg. I candled these eggs because they were from a mystery nest that I didn't know how old was. Only if the fertile egg has been sat upon or otherwise incubated will it grow, if it's collected within a day or two there will only be a small dot-size embryo. You likely wont even notice. If it is a moral problem for you, then get rid of any roosters or keep them separate.
nice video. how can you tell how long the eggs have been sitting around there maybe no baby chick but are they fresh. Another question is it costly to feed them and are they smelly. We have just over an acre and have neighbours. Appreciate any help anyone would like to give.
If there is no embryo and the air sac is small then it's fresh. Put the egg in water, if it floats the air sac is big and it's old. If it sinks it's fresh, if stands up it's a week+ old.
Food costs vary depending on how much bugs you have around. Even with purchasing bagged food it's worth it for egg birds, but not for meat breeds.
There is no problematic smell to me and we have 21 birds on 1 acre. Noise is more of an issue. I find the americanas most quiet.
I think the idea that a rooster is required for a hen to lay comes from dary cows that will not produce milk un till they become pregnant. and if the cow dries up it must become pregnant again to produce milk.
They are made of essential minerals and very healthy. You must wash and then boil them. They can be ground up and added to other foods. It's a good easily absorbed source of calcium.
Oh but I think you should not have too much of it, too much calcium or magnesium or trace minerals isn't good. Half a shell a day is good, mix with lemon.
Once we put some little guineas and turkeys in the hen house all alone. At the time we had no dogs living here to protect things, and when we went to check on the birds we found a mess of missing birds and living birds with missing legs. Someone (skunk or raccoon) had reached in and pulled some out bit by bit. Later we had an ailing turkey get attacked and gutted (it slashed our kitty, too!).
Healthy adult birds have done well loose.
Dogs can be taught to respect and not eat the birds.
ok, i watched a couple of your other vids, and your right, this is your most "normal" one, so i take it back, your not high, just crazy... no biggie. quick question, im ordering some chicks soon, barred rock, white rock, and rhode island reds, 4 each, 3 hens, i rooster from each breed, and i was wondering how long before i can leave them in a coop, im imagining i have to sort of hand raise these a bit before they go into a coop... thanks
The main thing is that they be warm, don't get wet, have food, and are clean. A box is good for the first few weeks. I've never had a chick die, except from putting them in a coop too soon. If there is a tiny hole they will escape, or if the wire is not tight, a skunk or other critter can reach in and tear them apart and eat them alive. By 6-8 weeks they should be pretty confident in a coop or running loose.
hi i hav chicks that are going to hatch on monday the 22nd of september and i was wondering if i could cruch the eggs shells up and feed the to the chicks??
I don't know, I fed them chick starter from the feed store. Hens need a higher calcium intake because they are laying, so it's good for the hens. It might be too hard for the babies, though... If you want something natural and homegrown for them, try leaving some nasty garbage (meat?) out in a hanging bucket with holes in it. Maggots should be crawling out the holes in a few days. Have fun with your babies!
Nice video. I'm not fond of snakes that are still alive. If that snake had been found with my chickens he would not have survived very long. I am a firm beliver that a good snake is a dead snake. If you don't like snakes slithering around your chicken coop then you should get a guniea. They are great at keeping snakes away & alerting you to preditors such as coyotes & neighbor dogs. We have a male guniea & a female chihuahua & together I've not lost any chickens for a couple of years now.
We had a BUNCH of guineas but one was so loud that my husband shot it for dinner... and then the others moved across the neighborhood to a ranch. We can still hear them sometimes!
This is a great video. I want to raise chickens. It might be a few years from now before I can, but I figured I could look up videos about it and learn a think or two.
The smaller the air pocket, the fresher the egg? I didn't catch that first time. You know what I'll be checking for every time I crack open an egg now.
I have undergone the traumatic experiences of having to kill animals we raised and named and had a special relationship with. (Turkeys) I don't know what to say about it, though.
I can mail you the pooped-out golf ball, if you want!
Oh. Um. Hmmm. I'll have to think about that. You might become famous someday...
I'll get back to you on that. It's an honor that you suggest giving it to me--of all people--I think. I'm sure you washed it with Dr. Bronner...right?
I have to brag to you about my daughter. In a running contest over a period of several weeks she ran the most miles in her class! I'm so unathletic so this is really amazing.
She won 2 toe tokens. I win great stuff like snake poop golf balls.
Great helpful video... Thanks!

Too funny about the snake puking up the golfball LOL :)
That said I have to ask where do the chickens live? I saw they roost in trees. They might last a week where I live if they did that. I had grand visions of free ranging my chickens but between owls, hawks, raccoons, possums, and more unfortunately EVERYTHING likes to eat chicken LOL :) I know lock them up at night and let them out in the morning.
copefarms 2 years ago
Now our chickens are enclosed in the coop with an attached sun yard. A multi-year drought has depleted all forage so the chickens are having to be contained and fed (grain and veggie scraps) while we hope that some bugs other than ants will breed and some grass will grow.
Mine would never let me lock them up part time!
RVqueen 2 years ago
Did the eggs hatch?
csbarrett14 2 years ago
Contrary to the comment at the end. I would not recommend feeding the chickens their own egg shells :(
drielok 2 years ago
Please tell us why!
RVqueen 2 years ago
I'm just personally against and sort of cannibalism for livestock. There are infections transmitted through cannibalism (encephalopathy), though none discovered so far from eggs that I am aware, just spinal cord and brain. Still, its more of a safety issue for the chicken for me.
drielok 2 years ago
Spongiform Encephalopathy comes from consuming same-specie proteins called prions which destroy nerve and brain cells. These are mostly found in the brain matter and spinal cord material. They are however not found in egg shells. I do not see how it can hurt and, besides, many birds consume egg shells for the calcium. You may go ahead and give the shells.
ftorresgamez 2 years ago
Thanks for the info, peeps.
Some hens crack and eat raw eggs sometimes... but I guess as long as they don't literally peck each others brains out they're okay!
RVqueen 2 years ago
No, that does not cause cannibalism! It is caused by when there becomes an open wound, and they pick at it out if curiosity, and also if there is a lack of some kind of mineral they need. Have a good one.

Hello there, I'm looking to raise a few chickens in the near future and just had a few questions. I'm not sure what the climate is like where you live, but in the winter, if it gets quite cold, are the chickens capable of staying warm on their own? What is a good ratio of hen(s) to rooster(s) to start out with? How much roaming space would a chicken need in order to be comfortable? Thanks, any information would be much appreciated, I really want to go about this the right way.

do you live on a farm? cause i live in the city and dont think there is enough room for chickens i want some though to raise
jellofast 2 years ago
I live in a rural non-city neighborhood where everyone does whatever they want. In most cities your neighbors can get you in trouble with "code compliance" if the chickens are loud before 6 am or whatever the laws are in that city. Some cities have bans on chickens, it just depends on where you live. Look into it.
RVqueen 2 years ago
nice now im jealous you live in a rural non city place
jellofast 2 years ago
put antifreeze, posin or what ever, into the eggs ( needle ) mark your egg with a pencle, and feed it to the snake ; )
vegafarm 2 years ago
but what if the dog gets it?!

FergieFan100 2 years ago
Maybe they hate each other. I have a couple of hens who will fight like crazy if enclosed together. I bet one of them is a jerk to the other but it's hard to tell who starts it. Sorry you only have two chickies.
RVqueen 2 years ago
I'm getting chicks this June and I'm getting "pullets" which are supposed to be mainly female because I don't want any males. If I do get a male, how do you know if the egg is fertilized so you don't eat it? How long do you have to wait for candling to show something?
fmaneko217 2 years ago
If you are not morally opposed to eating another organism, it is okay to eat a fertilized egg. I candled these eggs because they were from a mystery nest that I didn't know how old was. Only if the fertile egg has been sat upon or otherwise incubated will it grow, if it's collected within a day or two there will only be a small dot-size embryo. You likely wont even notice. If it is a moral problem for you, then get rid of any roosters or keep them separate.
have fun!
RVqueen 2 years ago
that was just the cutest video...
i'm totally gonna raise some chicks : )
BodhiOceans 2 years ago
nice video. how can you tell how long the eggs have been sitting around there maybe no baby chick but are they fresh. Another question is it costly to feed them and are they smelly. We have just over an acre and have neighbours. Appreciate any help anyone would like to give.
bleyendfaith 2 years ago

Can you really eat the shells?
ssmashingchloe 3 years ago
They are made of essential minerals and very healthy. You must wash and then boil them. They can be ground up and added to other foods. It's a good easily absorbed source of calcium.
RVqueen 3 years ago
Oh but I think you should not have too much of it, too much calcium or magnesium or trace minerals isn't good. Half a shell a day is good, mix with lemon.
RVqueen 3 years ago
Nice video minus the snake part.

emersoneee2008 3 years ago
I cook everyday. Last night... LASAGNA!
RVqueen 3 years ago
do you have any problems with preditors??/
emersoneee2008 3 years ago
Once we put some little guineas and turkeys in the hen house all alone. At the time we had no dogs living here to protect things, and when we went to check on the birds we found a mess of missing birds and living birds with missing legs. Someone (skunk or raccoon) had reached in and pulled some out bit by bit. Later we had an ailing turkey get attacked and gutted (it slashed our kitty, too!).
Healthy adult birds have done well loose.
Dogs can be taught to respect and not eat the birds.

And I'm not on anything.
RVqueen 3 years ago
ok, i watched a couple of your other vids, and your right, this is your most "normal" one, so i take it back, your not high, just crazy... no biggie. quick question, im ordering some chicks soon, barred rock, white rock, and rhode island reds, 4 each, 3 hens, i rooster from each breed, and i was wondering how long before i can leave them in a coop, im imagining i have to sort of hand raise these a bit before they go into a coop... thanks
theresyourtrouble 3 years ago
The main thing is that they be warm, don't get wet, have food, and are clean. A box is good for the first few weeks. I've never had a chick die, except from putting them in a coop too soon. If there is a tiny hole they will escape, or if the wire is not tight, a skunk or other critter can reach in and tear them apart and eat them alive. By 6-8 weeks they should be pretty confident in a coop or running loose.

hi i hav chicks that are going to hatch on monday the 22nd of september and i was wondering if i could cruch the eggs shells up and feed the to the chicks??
nibbles87400 3 years ago
I don't know, I fed them chick starter from the feed store. Hens need a higher calcium intake because they are laying, so it's good for the hens. It might be too hard for the babies, though... If you want something natural and homegrown for them, try leaving some nasty garbage (meat?) out in a hanging bucket with holes in it. Maggots should be crawling out the holes in a few days. Have fun with your babies!

Now this is the way to raise chickens! Very loving way and family. thanks!

if you keep a roster in a seperate area near enough for the chickens to see him they lay more eggs to impress him.

We have a male guniea & a female chihuahua & together I've not lost any chickens for a couple of years now.
cabbyhubby 3 years ago
We had a BUNCH of guineas but one was so loud that my husband shot it for dinner... and then the others moved across the neighborhood to a ranch. We can still hear them sometimes!

That was very educational. I love the idea of raising chickens for eggs but I could never kill and eat an animal I watch and name. I'm too sensitive.
The snake would freak me out. I was wondering which end the golf ball would come out. Thanks for relieving our curiousity regarding the snakes dilema.
Those eggs shells were totally awesome in the last part. I love all the different colors.
Have a great week, Rayna. Work on the Joplin song.
