  • On this date in 1959 {Feb. 23rd} "Never Be Anyone Else But You" entered Billboard's Top 100 chart; evenually it peaked at #6 and spent 16 weeks in the Top 100...

    Ranked 42nd on Billboard's Year-End Hot 100 Singles of 1959 chart...

This record was a rare two-sided Top 10 hit; B/side was "It's Late", peaked at #9...

Was the 1st of 4 straight records by Ricky to make the Top 10; staring with this one, then "It's Late" {#9}, "Just A Little Too Much" {#9}, and finally "Sweeter Than You" {#9}...

  • Thanks for uploading this great song. it's one of the best love songs ever!

  • @grammaidaho ~ Actually, Ricky Nelson died in a crash landing. The DC-3 that he was a passenger in, on New Year's Eve of 1985-86, caught fire while in flight over DeKalb, Texas. The flight crew actually landed the plane while it was engulfed in flames and although the pilot & copilot both escaped the burning aircraft, Ricky, his financee (Helen Blair), his 4 man band and the road manager of the band, all died as a result of the fire and smoke. Ricky was 45 years old at the time of his death.

  • great love song

  • How did Ricky die?

  • @1992Manutdfan Died in a plane crash on his way to a concert with his band.

  • Yes indeed, the days were wonderful while we were young; we listened to Ricky Nelson, Brenda Lee, Connie Francis & the great Everly Brothers all day long and waiting for their next 45s to come out...

The only thing was my parents thought those singers were loud & wild back then.

  • I'm now 65 years old; aside from my wife and children, the thing I'm most happy for is that I was there at the start. My children used to laff at my "oldies" yet now my grand-children

envy me as "their" music isn't anywhere as good as the 50's thru the mid 90's..

Us baby boomers are truly lucky to have been a part of it.

  • @perfectstrangr0 i was born in 44great time to be cool just by being there, ever notice how many tv connercials are backed by oldies, peace old timer lol

  • I wish I can repeat living in the '50/'60 again.

  • really?

  • And still worth a listen in 2012! Happy New Year y'all :)

  • Aww this song brings tears to my eyes!! <3

  • try this is the 50's

  • I once read that Ricky (and he will always be Ricky to me) stated that he could not imagine getting old for the most part he didn't have to maybe the best die young after all

  • Eight dislikes? What is there to dislike?

  • thumbs up if u,r listning to this in 2011

  • 8 people has penis the size of the dislike bar~

  • Wow how can it be that Rick has been gone from this world 26 years this coming December 31st. Quite frankly, I believe this is really "the day the music died".

    Bye Rick

  • When I hear these songs, it takes me back to record hops, true first love, sitting around the teenage hangout and having your sweetie buy you a Coke.... or Pepsi

Remember the Sock Hops at the Gym at School? That was fun!

  • ghostbuster63 - believe me you are right.. those times are long gone but wished with all my heart they would be back. I miss those days!

  • the fifties and sixties will come back, that time was when you sang songs to your girl and take her to the soda shop, that was a time when you had great friendship

the songs Ricky sang were so special.

  • Too Kool!

  • If I had a time machine i would go back to this time things were a lot better then

    than now. Thanks

  • Bring back the 50's songs NOW. WHAT wonderful songs. Thanks Ricky.:)))

  • WHAT A HANDSOME LOOKING GUY HE WAS ( ITS ONLY MANY YEARS LATER I REALISE THAT(I WAS VERY YOUNG AT THE TIME AT THE HEIGHT OF HIS FAME) THOUGH "TRAVELLIN MAN" IS ONE OF MY FAVOURITE SONGS FROM MY PARENTS RECORD COLLECION. WAS SORRY TO HEAR OF HIS DEATH (AT QUITE A YOUNG AGE) RIP RICK

  • if remember this song, I thought back to the deceased father.

because this song is my dad's favorite song.

  • Rick's voice is as smooth as it can ever get and the tone is spectacular. You are always in our memory Rick.

  • Oh how I wish this one was sung to Me.. this song is so special, the old songs are full of magic..

  • Glyn you are looking at me with those eyes again. This is so fabulous, never ever be nicer words than this.

Muriel xxx Thanks for posting gree47

  • He was my idol...I just knew he would want to marry me...LOL His death was so hard to take...love his music and voice...to say nothing of his looks!!! :)

  • Always wondered why he sang so many songs with a very narrow range.

I thought he didn't have much range

But now years later I listen to his country songs and he was actually a better singer than I thought

Pop music in the 50-60's often had a very narrow range

  • mooie lied

  • Those lips, wow!

  • Mmmm.those were the days of such fascinating voices like Ricky Nelson etc.

  • this was the first 45 disc i bought back in 1958 it cost me six and fourpence tigga 123

  • Beste Jongen. Heb allang niet meer gehoord. Hartstikke bedankt

  • i never lived back then , but listening to the music, it touches your soul, it makes you want to lose yourself and it touches your soul, it means a lot , when it comes to u and the one u love,

  • only 16 but I've always had a real soft spot for music of the 50's and 60's. wish i were a teenager back in those days. my favorite era of all time although i never lived it

  • If you were of your youth during Ricky's time (such as I) then you were very very lucky.

What wonderful music; simple but touching and so special to each of us who remember him in this era. His tragic death, on New Year's Eve of 1985-86, was one of the saddest days of my life. As least we can be thankful that his music lives on.

  • @MrRonnieG

I lived back then, infact Ricky and I are the same age. I always loved this song then and still do.

    glad you enjoy his music.

  • @MrRonnieG

i was a teenager then, infact the same age as Ricky. loved this song then and still do.

  • @MrRonnieG Well said!

  • WHAT A VOICE, LOVE SONGS WERE SO SPECIAL DURING THE 50,S AND 60,S, NOW WE HAVE TOTAL GARBAGE. I GREW UP DURING THE BEST TIMES AND WHERE DID THE YEARS GO?

  • @brownindian17 At least you´ve grow up with nice music, artists (Dean Martin - my favourite -, Sammy Davis Jr, Frank Gorshin, John Wayne, Gary Grant, Foster Brooks, just to name a few). I would change my birth year for a 1920/1930 and live in U.S.A. to see shows of the Rat Pack, Dean Martin Show, Roasts. Lucky you are.

  • If you had never been in Love, before you saw & heard Rick, You Certainly were after! Loved him so very much.

  • What a great song from one of the best of all time.He had such a smooth voice seen a few concerts of his way back then, and he just seemed like a good down to earth person no big head and pompous attitude. He died way to young and he is still missed.

  • greatest of all times here I sit at 68 wondering where did time go.

  • @MsSSeverson

same here but at least it went with great music during our era

  • oh shit ..... he was da shittt

  • My Aunt Connie had a lot of Ricky Nelson records. She let me play his records over and over. This particular one is one of my personal favorites. He had that beautiful voice and let's be truthful the guy was absolutely breathtalkingly handsome. There are people as handsome, but none more handsome than was Ricky Nelson, and HE COULD SING!!!

  • One of my favorite songs of all time. <3 I covered a few Ricky Nelson songs. You all are welcome to check them out. Some people think I sound just like Ricky. I'd love to have your opinion

    .

  • anyone remember where you were when it was anounced that he died in a plane wreck?? i was sitting in a truck stop in Fresno, ca. new years eve. will never forget that night

  • @ShellTrek I'M IN BUT HOW????? LOL

  • @ShellTrek how about no

  • It was such a shame that Ricky Nelson's career never recieved the praise it deserved particularly by the mid 60s when he was looked upon as a has been teen idol His music was so much more It's truly a shame that he was a victim of the vagaries of the music buying public

  • My first present from my now husband was a Ricky LP. Ahhhh, the memories! Thank you so much for posting.

  • I really like this guy a lot. Elvis was my favorite, but Ricky is a close second. Just amazing music and an amzing era. I was 16 in 1982, but I consider this my music, listened to it as a kid and all my friends thought I was a square but I didn't care.

  • I has this when I was 16 in 1960 and used to play it frequently. It was a single 45 and it sounded quite different from this. It was deeper in tone and had more atmosphere. I dunno. Is this from a remastered CD?

  • I HAVE THIS RECORD ON A DOUBLE 45RPM...PLAY IT ALL THE TIME...LOVE IT..!!

  • No talent left anymore like Rick.

  • @4Skeeley. Too right. He was absolutely gorgeous. A .little older than me. LOL

  • Briliant Song I Love This One,

Thank You So Much For Posting It Here.

    Jimmy

  • Eight dislikes? Must have been mis-hits. How could anyone dislike this song?

  • @john9944 They must've thought it said 'Dis, I like' :-)

  • @john9944

    Those 8 people meant " dis I like! "

  • @HoboGus Or else there were too idiotic to realize amazing music, ?

  • @skippy0319 My buddy knew him in the day and said he was a nice guy.

  • BRILLIANT.THANK YOU FOR SHARING,

  • @italing Ricky Nelson died in a plane crash back in 1985 he was 45 so tragic.....

  • @italing

    Now he's dead

  • Love this song.

    Thank You.

  • A great perfomer, snag some brilliant teen ballards. Great pity he's not with now!!!

  • This great singer passed away far too early Long live Ricky

  • As George Bernard once said: "Like all young men, you greatly exaggerate the difference between one young woman and another".

I'm 62 now and deeply regret not reading GBS sooner.

  • born to late for him to notice me

  • So much better than Elvis! Way better looking, and a much better singer! Gotta love Ricky. <3

  • chingoneria

  • He had a great voice!

  • he was sooooooooooooo handsome

  • Rick was the one guy who gave Elvis a run for his money in the music business during the late 50's. I believe at one time Rick was voted more popular than Elvis.

  • that's not true. ricky n. hity his prime only 3 years after a few hot songs and then after 1963 his career began to wain... it started to revive later in the early 80's....but soon after he died... sad story of a good but troubled singer always in the shadows -------- his father..

  • @JDNWF66 what troubled Rick?

  • Excellent!.Thank you:>

  • This song means so very much to me, and meant so much to my dearest late wife Gill who bought it for me when we were courting in 1958....Ray Chivers .... (March 2010)

  • @ginorama

My personal condolences for the loss of the love of your life. This song has some very special memories for me also. Take care and may God bless.

  • I bought this record for my first real girlfriend, Susan in about 1959 when I was 14 after saving pennies. I'll never forger the kisses and dances with her that resulted from that record. Oh, god, what a time.

  • I grew up in the 1950's and Ricky Nelson was so important it is hard to realize it now.

He was so good and this is my favorite song of his although he had many great songs out. This one is just beautiful.

God bless you Ricky and thank you for your music.

  • IF YOU WANT REAL STAR...

  • GREAT RECORD.

  • ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL MEN THAT WAS EVER BORN....and TALENTED, TOO! ROCK ON, RICK!!!!!

  • Such a great voice!

  • Gree47, please forgive me, as I don't know the language of the Netherlands. Decades ago I spoke German fluently but have forgotten most of it (Ich spreche nur ein bisschen Deutch aber Ich habe viel vergassen). This is one of his all-time great songs...backed up by various musicians including the great guitarist James Burton (later with Elvis and even later with "Roy The Boy Orbison" wearing a white blazer on the PBS special "A Black and White Night".

    Again thank you...Danke Schoen...Tunesmith

  • ehhh... thats truth my dear K. but u don't know about it...

  • Nobody else but you i''ll never forget the way we first kissed.

  • This is my favorite Ricky Nelson song. I never was allowed to stay in the house and watch TV in the summertime. We were always outside playing-- EXCEPT for the Ozzie and Harriet Show- I couldn't wait for Ricky to sing at the end of the show! Thanks for posting this song!

  • I was only 5 when this song came out. I heard it since my older cousins listened to the contemporary music of the time. I fell in love with the song and with Ricky way back then, and I still feel the same 50 years later.

  • HE IS THE MOST HANDSOME MAN!!

  • I'm wondering how it's possible that this song is one of my favorite ballads between all my soul and funk stuff. I'm now 57 and still like to hear that tune - since I was a boy of 10...

  • most hansome man

  • @marissa09098 WHEN I WAS A KID GROWING UP IN LA, CAL..I SAW RICK NELSON, WITH MY MOM. I WAS ABOUT 10 YRS OLD, WHAT I REMEMBER THE MOST ABOUT HIM WAS THE PIERCING BLUE AND DARK HAIR..TO THIS DAY..QUIT A PRESENTS

  • It was a wonderful time to be a teenager. I dated a guy that looked like Ricky Nelson. We still keep in touch now. In fact he is a Wanna Be Singer and he is currently recording a c.d. of Ricky songs for me. My dream come true..a Larry/Rickey c.d of my own! Thanks Larry!
