@grammaidaho ~ Actually, Ricky Nelson died in a crash landing. The DC-3 that he was a passenger in, on New Year's Eve of 1985-86, caught fire while in flight over DeKalb, Texas. The flight crew actually landed the plane while it was engulfed in flames and although the pilot & copilot both escaped the burning aircraft, Ricky, his financee (Helen Blair), his 4 man band and the road manager of the band, all died as a result of the fire and smoke. Ricky was 45 years old at the time of his death.
Yes indeed, the days were wonderful while we were young; we listened to Ricky Nelson, Brenda Lee, Connie Francis & the great Everly Brothers all day long and waiting for their next 45s to come out...
The only thing was my parents thought those singers were loud & wild back then.
I'm now 65 years old; aside from my wife and children, the thing I'm most happy for is that I was there at the start. My children used to laff at my "oldies" yet now my grand-children
envy me as "their" music isn't anywhere as good as the 50's thru the mid 90's..
Us baby boomers are truly lucky to have been a part of it.
@perfectstrangr0 i was born in 44great time to be cool just by being there, ever notice how many tv connercials are backed by oldies, peace old timer lol
Bring back the 50sand60sthese boys and girls could realy sing sometimes with only guitar and drums nothing to make them sound better.like these young ones now
I once read that Ricky (and he will always be Ricky to me) stated that he could not imagine getting old for the most part he didn't have to maybe the best die young after all
Wow how can it be that Rick has been gone from this world 26 years this coming December 31st. Quite frankly, I believe this is really "the day the music died".
When I hear these songs, it takes me back to record hops, true first love, sitting around the teenage hangout and having your sweetie buy you a Coke.... or Pepsi
the fifties and sixties will come back, that time was when you sang songs to your girl and take her to the soda shop, that was a time when you had great friendship

i never lived back then , but listening to the music, it touches your soul, it makes you want to lose yourself and it touches your soul, it means a lot , when it comes to u and the one u love,
only 16 but I've always had a real soft spot for music of the 50's and 60's. wish i were a teenager back in those days. my favorite era of all time although i never lived it
If you were of your youth during Ricky's time (such as I) then you were very very lucky.
What wonderful music; simple but touching and so special to each of us who remember him in this era. His tragic death, on New Year's Eve of 1985-86, was one of the saddest days of my life. As least we can be thankful that his music lives on.
WHAT A VOICE, LOVE SONGS WERE SO SPECIAL DURING THE 50,S AND 60,S, NOW WE HAVE TOTAL GARBAGE. I GREW UP DURING THE BEST TIMES AND WHERE DID THE YEARS GO?
@brownindian17 At least you´ve grow up with nice music, artists (Dean Martin - my favourite -, Sammy Davis Jr, Frank Gorshin, John Wayne, Gary Grant, Foster Brooks, just to name a few). I would change my birth year for a 1920/1930 and live in U.S.A. to see shows of the Rat Pack, Dean Martin Show, Roasts. Lucky you are.
What a great song from one of the best of all time.He had such a smooth voice seen a few concerts of his way back then, and he just seemed like a good down to earth person no big head and pompous attitude. He died way to young and he is still missed.
My Aunt Connie had a lot of Ricky Nelson records. She let me play his records over and over. This particular one is one of my personal favorites. He had that beautiful voice and let's be truthful the guy was absolutely breathtalkingly handsome. There are people as handsome, but none more handsome than was Ricky Nelson, and HE COULD SING!!!
One of my favorite songs of all time. <3 I covered a few Ricky Nelson songs. You all are welcome to check them out. Some people think I sound just like Ricky. I'd love to have your opinion
anyone remember where you were when it was anounced that he died in a plane wreck?? i was sitting in a truck stop in Fresno, ca. new years eve. will never forget that night

I really like this guy a lot. Elvis was my favorite, but Ricky is a close second. Just amazing music and an amzing era. I was 16 in 1982, but I consider this my music, listened to it as a kid and all my friends thought I was a square but I didn't care.
I has this when I was 16 in 1960 and used to play it frequently. It was a single 45 and it sounded quite different from this. It was deeper in tone and had more atmosphere. I dunno. Is this from a remastered CD?
Rick was the one guy who gave Elvis a run for his money in the music business during the late 50's. I believe at one time Rick was voted more popular than Elvis.

This is one of his all-time great songs...backed up by various musicians including the great guitarist James Burton (later with Elvis and even later with "Roy The Boy Orbison" wearing a white blazer on the PBS special "A Black and White Night".
This is my favorite Ricky Nelson song. I never was allowed to stay in the house and watch TV in the summertime. We were always outside playing-- EXCEPT for the Ozzie and Harriet Show- I couldn't wait for Ricky to sing at the end of the show! Thanks for posting this song!
I was only 5 when this song came out. I heard it since my older cousins listened to the contemporary music of the time. I fell in love with the song and with Ricky way back then, and I still feel the same 50 years later.
I'm wondering how it's possible that this song is one of my favorite ballads between all my soul and funk stuff. I'm now 57 and still like to hear that tune - since I was a boy of 10...
@marissa09098 WHEN I WAS A KID GROWING UP IN LA, CAL..I SAW RICK NELSON, WITH MY MOM. I WAS ABOUT 10 YRS OLD, WHAT I REMEMBER THE MOST ABOUT HIM WAS THE PIERCING BLUE AND DARK HAIR..TO THIS DAY..QUIT A PRESENTS
It was a wonderful time to be a teenager. I dated a guy that looked like Ricky Nelson. We still keep in touch now. In fact he is a Wanna Be Singer and he is currently recording a c.d. of Ricky songs for me. My dream come true..a Larry/Rickey c.d of my own! Thanks Larry!
Tricky Ricky at his BEST - Nostalgia OH YES!! Keep the Oldies Alive - They May Be Lost Forever if not for these postings, many, many thanks*********************

Always wondered why he sang so many songs with a very narrow range.
I thought he didn't have much range
But now years later I listen to his country songs and he was actually a better singer than I thought
Pop music in the 50-60's often had a very narrow range

Rick was Mr. Smooth. I was 8 when this came out, and it influenced my tastes in guitar and vocals.
