  • I can't like this enough. Twisted music for twisted people. If you don't like it, it is probably because you don't get it or not fucked up enough to be in tune with it.

  • You HAVE to admire his bassoon voice... He has an amazing singing voice! Period! Such range... Awesome song, sung and played... Just awesome... Let him be the adversary...

  • i love these guys so much, there too funny XD

  • HAHAHA

  • Sleepytime Gorilla Museum's FINAL Los Angeles show

    April 8th, 2011.

    At the Troubador.

  • hail satan!

  • WHAT.... THE.... FUCK....

  • This was too hilarious to be disturbing. It's like a Monty Python parody of Silent Hill.

  • anybody else notice the groans in the beginning are the Soldiers' sound effects from Doom?

  • The morning star isn't a reference to Satan, it's a reference to Lucifer. Luciferianism and Satanism are two different things.

  • christianity, such an evil disease...it must be destroyed. :D great avant-garde band!

  • soooo fucking cheesy

  • @MRMOOD3 That's what makes it so goddam creepy.

  • @SnoringMonkeyExhibit agreed...i love the helpless corpes vid

  • Hahah, I like the fuzz about this video being so disturbing. I read the comments, and then saw the video. COME ON, you ain't seen nothing yet. This is just strange and boring. Sorry. What's up with people being afraid of Satan anyway. tsh

  • these guys must have been through some deep mental shit to be able to make a video like this..

  • Killer voice.

  • wow what a great video! Too bad the music isn't very good.

Now I am wondering if this is an offshoot of a truly great band - Idiot Flesh?

  • @nirvanaispus No offense but your username makes me suspect you're trolling. This is not this group's best album or song, and saying that SGM's worst song sounds like Idiot Flesh is not very respectful to either band. Lastly, SGM is not an offshoot of Idiot Flesh: Idiot Flesh focused on different musical aspects, visual and lyrical aspects, and where not produced in the same manner. It's like saying Mr. Bungle is an offshoot of Faith No More, or vice versa. (-_-) peace, love, and lsd~ SME

  • After I watched this, I don't know whether or not I should be scared or sleepy.

  • Is it just me or are all the world's great musicians also the world's most eccentric people?

Hats off to these guys for their musical talent... but they're just messed up...

  • did 0:42 remind any one else of kh's nobodies?

  • horned king ^^^- looks like a rabbit c'mon

    where's Xenu ?

  • A TOMAR POR CULO LA CREACIÓN!!!

  • I totally opened up my heart to Satan because of this video. You know he holds the key to the throne of might, right? You should all worship Satan. Who wouldn't after seeing this. It is very convincing.

  • Directly from Nils: Song starts by going through different versions of saviors that mankind looks up to and put hope into or what have you. First being Pentecostal and then a more Luciferian hope. In the end, when the savior rises, it's not a savior, but a condemner of the human race. It's an embodiment of the hubris of the human race, in the face of nature.

  • THIS.IS.HILARIOUS.

  • satanism is stupid. that said, this has an interesting aesthetic quality.

  • @n66178 well if u knew what satanists really were about and not just going by the name you would realize that satanism is "the utter rejection of the spiritual way of theistic religions, and that we are just animals who evolve as any other complex system". as best said. also that there is no redeemer, that each person is their own redeemer, fully responsible for their own life. Satanist don't worship anything

  • @brutalnessities1 So maybe it would be more appropriate to call you guys nihilists since the name of your belief system has, apparently, nothing to do with it. On the face of it, it seems ridiculous to seemingly worship a being bent on your destruction. But I agree with the "responsible for your own life" idea. If we had more of that thinking instead of so many wards of the state suckling at its many teats, people in general would be stronger and less easily controlled.

  • "hail satan" omg, how stupid : /.

  • I typed in "crowned and conquering child" in google and the first thing that came up was Heru-ra-ha. It seems this is a composite God for a religion called Thelema. And according to the Thelema, this god can be represented by "the five pointed star of flame." My thought is that SGM jumbled up a bunch of religious references and put them in a song to see what people would say. That's art for you.

  • That guy is creepy

  • I dig personally. oh ya and hail satan 666

  • great observation steviesmyths

  • That is interesting, because I rather thought this was pretty Gnostic. All the Christian styled imagery seemed to indicate that the implied meaning was that the Christian churches were really a cover for evil incarnate. Hard to argue that given the fact that in its 2000 year history Christians seem particularly incapable of obeying their first commandment, despite all the fine words, pomp and ceremony and professed "goodness".

  • @Malicension uh well ur gay lol

  • @bicycledaygtr25

Thanks. I see you Sleepytime fans are big on the middle-school comebacks?

  • @Malicension hail satan

  • @Malicension

I don't think this is actually about satanism...

  • @moonlitesymphony

Really? What is it about, then?

  • @Malicension Well the album itself is about "humanitarianism" and how extreme atavism or futurism can separate you from humanity. This isn't even conjecture it's basically in the liner notes on the CD. They even have a little point comparison sheet. The whole album talk about a lot of things both concrete and metaphorical (including the delusional genius of the unabomber). Satan, for one, is goat headed (or a dragon). They might very well be referring to technology or political influence.

  • @moonlitesymphony

Hmm...I suppose I acknowledge your point. But if Sleepytime Gorilla Museum disputes the "delusional genius" of the Unabomber, why would they represent technology as the embodiment of sin? Surely such a pessimistic stance would demonstrate the band's atavism, and if they are indeed atavists, then they'd be advocates of Ted Kaczynski's philosophies. Besides, the lyrics contain blatant references to Satan. "2000 year old lie, I am the adversary", etc.

  • @Malicension Fair point on the "lie." I think it risks geting in to a shady point on mixed metaphors. I think big point is even in reference to satan it might just be useful imagery for their point. They could also be satanists but that's more about existentialism than anti-christian philosophy. They don't seem to explicitly state which side they would fall on but they seem to use the Unabomber's views to make futurism seem more cruel and even so they could be using a lot of irony...

  • The christian god is satan. Born out of and projected from our angry sex deprived patriachal ancestors. You know, the same people that thought the world was flat. The death of religion is slow, but it IS dying. I'd rather follow lucifer than jehova anyways. Actually both are pretty silly. But atleast Lucifer had the sense to rebel from that goober that put 2 curious creations in a garden, and then punished them for doing what HE knew they would do. Stupid story. SGM is better than church.

  • He reminds me of Devin Townsend (even for the crazyness).

Anyway thia stuff is thousand of times more sick and scary than all that black metal crap together.

  • @feidtublec

Black metal is a lot better than this stuff

  • Comment removed

  • remind me never to read you tube comments again - u pack of spoons

  • Oh sweet, people speaking about the devil. Hello folks, my name is [Insert your devil's name here], nice to meet you. Thank you for mentioning me in a Sleepytime Gorilla Museum music video. Made my day really.

  • The Devil Only Exist Because Of Your Belief In Him.. Lucifer was created to keep your eyes off your own inner evil...

  • Ironically, this is just as goofy as Christian Rock.

  • Now, I listen to some pretty weird stuff, but this is very indulgent and I would not be upset if I never heard this song again. The video was probably really fun to make, but again, I don't want to see 'scary' people drooling.

  • huh...i really don't know what to say about this song/video........just really wth?

  • Very Christmassy

  • Wow, I didn't think a lot of people were into SGM, but I guess I'm wrong, I remember the first time i saw them live about 9 years ago, I have seen them play 17 times since then. I love SGM! Keep experiment alive! And hail Nils!

  • the video is funny lol

  • At least the video is quite ridiculous, the song instead is very beautyful, I love it!

  • Do the people making the Satanist argument not realize that they've got their tongues stuck in their cheeks? ;)

  • Nice tongue at 3:09

  • 4:41 Nice Teeth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Some of the visuals in this are like a cross between goth photomanips and the animations from Monty Python.

  • I'm not sure if that was a really bad trip or a really good trip.

  • I love the ridiculous humor in this video, kind of taking the piss out of the cliche metal video that throws around all these occult symbols probably not knowing what they stand for. I also love the juxtoposition these videos, like how this video has very dark imagery and then it breaks into an extremely melodic hymn, and how the video to helpless corpses enactment is just victorians attending their greenhouses and washing clothes set to metal.

  • @lunkhead57 they know very well wat these symbols are do you? and to you it may be "dark" but to others it may be holy in there eyes its avant garde not metal

  • @iuguolovos I'm not implying they don't know what the symbols mean, but there is at least some humor in it. Also, while it is avant-garde it's fairly obvious from their other songs how influenced by metal they are.

  • @lunkhead57 avant garde is influence by the mind/the person not anything but metal has structure avant garde can but doesnt have to

  • Lawl, this is such a stereotype. Awesome.

  • very unique and addicting song.

one of the strongest I've ever heard, that's for sure.

    great video too.

  • this song almost makes me cry but i don't because i'm so metal lol

  • Very powerful video, to a very powerful song.

  • I think the beginning of this song is sarcastically telling people to believe in God, which I think is really funny, hahaha.

I don't care what this song is about as far as satan goes, when the song actually starts, it's beautiful, like a musical haha

  • @Ither1 It's talking about Lucifer, the lord of light.

  • @deadithink no its not

  • @iuguolovos Um.. great, well don't post whom you think it is. Especially if you disagree with someone. Even if it makes you seem like an idiot for not justifying your answer.

  • @deadithink okay sorry i was busy, they are trying to make people presume they are talking about satan just to bring people fear to the surface when in actualality they are talking about the advesary to whoever is listening to the music

  • my phone rang at like 5:40 , it scared the shit out of me!

  • I like this.......

  • Impressive voice.

  • Sweet, sweet Satan! "Show thy star-splendour O Nuit! Bid me within thy house to dwell O winged snake of light, Hadit! Abide with me Ra-Hoor-Khuit!"

  • jesus.

  • I wouldn't read too much into it, it's practically a requirement for darker themed bands to do a song about Satan. Satanism aside, Ole Scratch is an interesting sonofagun, he's history's favorite badboy.

Anywho.. if Satan doesn't float your boat, there's always the swirling joy that is Azathoth.

  • <333

  • Spellbinding. I'm hooked.

  • some of the shots in this video reminded me of a 30s foreign horror film... combined with some really bad green screen work. In the end it is a rather funny video i must admit. Still, those bass notes in the beginning of the song are just amazing.

  • A very good video indeed. However the subliminal message in it turned me towards the Horned God, Lucifer Most High. I think the time I realised this was when I found myself in the garden burying my neighbour's grandmother under my rose bushes at 4am.

  • I recomend showel model No. 4 for those pesky neighbors and roots.

  • good song. Did anybody notice the style of the music video looks like it was made in the early 90's or something? It might be intentionally dated looking.

  • Damn, you folks take your videos too seriously. All Nils & company is doing is making a controvercial video using suggestive imagery & religious superstition. They're not trying to turn their fans onto the Church of Satan or anything. It's just messed up, out of this world creativity at it's finest. I say "Kudos" to SGM for the fine piece of work. I hope my videos end up as talked about (and scary). It's just a video & nothing more. No subliminal messages or even an inverted pentagram.

  • I'm a Christian, and I don't like it either when people see stuff like this and freak out, thinking its going to turn anyone who watches it into Satan worshipers. You'd have to be really weak-willed to see a music video and start worshipping Satan because someone in the music video said something about him, or because there is a lot of weird crap in the background.

  • If someone is weak-willed enough to show interest or worship Satan after seeing this video, either they probably weren't far off the path to worshiping him anyway, or they are the type of people too gullible to survive a comedy show without doing something stupid the comedian made up as an exaggerated joke and getting themselves killed.

And believe me, you don't have to be a Satan worshiper to make something this disturbing.

  • (one more thing)

I think not having subliminal messages is actually safer. You play Marilyn Manson in front of a Sunday School child, and he might listen to it until he actually understands the lyrics, and then its to late for his poor little innocent soul.

But play A Hymn To The Morning Star, and the first line the creepy devil worshiper sings will send him running for an adult.

  • Dangerous? haha If artists "promoting" religion in any form is dangerous, then some of Da Vinci's paintings should be shielded from society...

  • Six months later, and you're still an idiot.

  • @PeaceFistCreations they arent even satan worshipers they arent talking about satan either

  • @PeaceFistCreations Just because there's "dark" imagery christians would most likley shit there pants over and you seeming to think you're the only exception is missing the point. The lyrics are ridiculously uplifting and the music is beautiful there is nothing remotley scary like you said. SGM is very theatrical with there music and video's it almost comes off as a play. These "weak - willed" people your talking about have most likley mental problems to convert to such an absurd act of

  • @PeaceFistCreations worshiping a false entity such as "SATAN!" as you've depicted it in the video.

  • @PeaceFistCreations The ideas behind this video is not to turn people into satan worshippers.

It's to illustrate how all religions and cults make the same empty promises with evil intentions.

    This video depicts all religions.

  • well said shadow

  • hmmm, maybe people would respect your opinions more if you expressed why you think it's "bad". Instead, you seem to seek out this band to post the same comment without elaboration, you look foolish. Where's the excuse?

  • your mom is bad...in bed

  • That dude at 0:51 had some pretty slick moves.

  • I'm confused, how could a fictional entity write ANYTHING.

  • what. the. fuck?

  • his base voice is incredible

  • Thanks for the laugh...

  • I have seen Sleepytime Gorilla Museum 3 times and each show blew me away between seriously good musicianship and Art-with-a-capital-A. I hadn't heard the albums and if i had i might not have gone to the 1st show. They opened and right at the beginning, during the start of this song, the fuses blew 3 times. Magick works this way.

Oh, and Carla is in my opinion one of the 9 living muses walking the earth. Have you heard the other bands she is in, like Tin Hat Trio?

  • this is the most terrible thing I have ever seen/heard in my life.....just shows how subjective music is....omg....

  • not one of their better songs. sleepytime is still great though.

  • Please tell me - is it a spoof and joke on 'gothic' or 'satanic' popular bands like Behemoth or Marylin Manson? Looks both serious and joke..

  • seriously? what did you see?

  • Well, just video pieces, camera and makeups. but maybe i'm wrong

  • Behemoth is neither gothic nor satanic.. they're mostly "pagan", but use certain satanic symbols and so forth.

And I don't think that this video was meant to be a joke.. I think it is the most creepy video I've ever seen! The singer looks a bit like Devin Townsend, though I don't know why that matters. xD

  • I was speaking in stereotypes of course. The first clip of them I saw (helpless corpses intact) was full of quotes from bands like Meshuggah and the whole video looked quite ironical

  • No, stupid. Helpless Corpse Enactment is based on Finnegan's Wake. And ironical isn't a word.

Gah. People just need to keep their mouths shut. As should those who know nothing about SGM or good music. Go back to your corn-fed lies you call "music" and and choke on it.

  • So much for pathos(c)

    fans are so fans, lol

  • Where did I say that I don't like this band or their videos, stupid?

Have you ever read Joyce? It's all full of fun and experiments, so different from dead-serious modern metalheads or whatever. Singing Finnegan's wake in modern Meshuggah-way is both brilliant and ironic idea

  • Sir, the second statement was a generalization. You took it personally. YouTube doesn't have a multiquote function.

  • i was thinking the same thing when i saw this about him looking like hevy devy!!

  • What a deep voice Nils has - blows me away how epic he sounds. This band are incredibly versatile and unique and sometimes when I think of them, my skin peels off.

  • Agreed- They give me that skin-peeling off feeling too!

  • Whoa, they sampled the zombie noise from Doom.

  • Lucifer is the Latin name for the "Morning Star", both in prose and poetry, as seen in works by Marcus Terentius Varro (11627 BC), Cicero (106-43 BC) and other early Latin writers.

  • I really enjoy Frykdahl's singing on this track.

  • is he talking about satan or jesus?

  • is there a difference?

  • Satan haha. I asked that same question till i heard the whole thing...

  • i prefer the human bark. but gosh, as if it matters. this band is golden!

  • This video pushed me to buy an album of theirs... but it is by far the most frightening thing I've ever seen in my entire life.

  • Don't be afraid of Nils Frykdahl, he only wants your love and respect....AND SOUL!!!

  • love

  • love it :) I wish there was a "sleep is wrong"-video, too. that old song still rocks like hell.

  • That was a lot of fun to watch! I love these guys!

  • It's kinda hard to scare me usually but this guy's voice chills me to the bone.

  • love them!!! they make really wonderful music! :)

  • nice... the song is unusual to my ears but i absolutely like it...

  • Awesome track and fine video! Top marks!

  • Eric Koziol is my cousin

  • This is pretty frightening

  • YOU.

  • Watch this while high!

    trippy as fuck.

  • The guy listens to PANTERA for fucks sake. That's as hardcore as it gets!

  • Lol wut? Pantera is not hardcore as it gets. Not by a long shot.

  • Apparently, you did not catch my sarcasm.

  • It seems a bit to me like a cross examination between the two Lucifer and Jesus.

  • I am a Christian and KNOW that God and Jesus are real. You couldn't convince me otherwise. I am not manipulated, and I am not foolish. Nor do I suffer fools. I can enjoy this novelty music just as much as the next guy. Heck, Pantera is my favorite band. Doesn't mean I'm going to hell. I still put God first in all I do. That's the great part of it all. We all get to make our own choices. Believe it or not that's the Christian way.

  • A christian who cant be manipulated or is foolish...? Buwahahahahahahaha

  • I knew I could draw you out. Now who was manipulated. Ha ha! I was expecting some overthought anti Christian to have to make their "intelligent" remark. Thanks for proving my point. Non Christians are way more manipulated, and way too easy to manipulate. Just let them know they don't have to be accountable and they'll follow anyone. Ha ha.. er... I mean too bad. Maybe you'll get it one day.

  • Your right a non christian is more likely to question what another says... you know rather than following blindly like a sheep. Predictability isn't analogous to manipulation.

You should think before you speak and preferably think for yourself at ALL times.

  • My days, and they were long, of questioning are over. Why do you need to question? Does it make you fell smart to question everything? Have you trid puting your total faith in Jesus Christ? Or are you just taking a lazy viewpoint to avoid committment? I'm not a sheep, I'm a man. I follow who I want to follow. Do you? You're not going to change me, no matter what you say. Oh, and big words don't make you look intelligent. Especially when grammar is ignored.

  • First, I wouldn't gloat about giving up on questioning what you are told. How is doing more = laziness? Who said I didn't follow anything? And I apologize if I came across as trying to destroy your faith; Although if you haven't questioned your religion perhaps your faith should be put on hold.

  • Oh, I also didn't realize this was a scholastic paper; let me begin revising. By the way pointing out bad grammar online is retarded, this is compounded by the fact your spelling is off.(If you meant that last sentence as a joke, well done, I did smile).

  • Life is about choice. I have asked more questions than you could count. I have a science background and a 156 I.Q. I have proven to myself that God exists. If you are going to represent yourself in a public forum then it is best to treat it like a scholastic paper so that people will respect your opinion. I did not mean to misspell a word, I was feeding a baby andd typing with one hand.

  • I had an I.Q. of 164 when I was 11, never took another test since (no point, It costs money and too much time. If your counting online tests... Hahaha. I.Q. tests mean jack, they don't make you opinions better than others. I'm humble enough to realize that, are you? YouTube is a place where anyone can express themselves without knowing jargon or having necessary references. It wouldn't be any fun to write anything here if it was only regarded as worthwhile when in scholastic format; RCC = 1.

  • The schools tested me, I never paid a dime. And online I.Q. tests are not real. I have never said my opinions are better than yours. I am humbled ultimately under God. YouTube is not made for us. These forums help YT increase website hits. They take that information to advertisers who then pay them money to market on their site. You can suit yourself with your beliefs. But God created you, so I wouldn't go around crapping on Him. Make the right choice and you WILL be happy and free. Out 4 good.

  • Dear Tyrowland.

I respect your beliefs, as well as other's. However before judging badly non-christians, you should ask yourself ONE question: Why was Jesus Christ born, according to tradition, on the 25th of December (according to the Sumerian Calendar, the day the sun restarted its cycle), and was visited by three mages (I'm italian so I don't know the English equivalent of the Magi), just like... errrr... Horus, Zoroaster, Marduk, etcetera...

  • Also you should ask yourself why the myths of Satan and Promotheus are so DAMN similar. Same goes for Pandora and Eve.

And you say that good americans have died for their right to believe in God. What about all the people that Christians (and Muslim, Jewish, etcetera...) have killed because they had different religious views? I believe in God, but I doubt he is man with a white beard (Zeus???) who sends you to heaven and hell and wants your money.

  • It's because Christianity is nothing but an amalgamation of foreign pagan religions. Virgin births are found in other faiths, the flood parable is older than that even. Even the resurrection story of Jesus (which seemed to be the only original concept found in Christianity) is allegedly found in other pagan religions and even some Jewish mysticism.

  • There is absolutely no way you or anyone else could ever destroy my faith. It is very hard to humble yourself and admit that you are not the one in control. It is very hard to let go of sinful behavior. Questioning is doing much, much less. I can sit and ask my boss questions all day and ignore the real work. That is a losing venture with a bad end. I don't gloat. Although it can be hard to make the change, life is much much better.

  • Ignorance is bliss. Following blindly is easier than thinking for yourself. Being a leader takes moral fiber, anyone can follow. Following comes naturally, no work involved. And I guess you have never multi-tasked in your life, you've never questioned why your doing something or how you can make something better or more efficiently.

  • I don't see how any of that has any relevance towards my posts. I am not ignorant. I'll repeat for the third time, I was an anti Christian who asked more questions than anyone. My questions led me to God. What's your problem with that? I don't understand your reference to multi tasking, but I have 5 children and I am their leader. Read my posts again so that I don't have to keep repeating myself. Listen AGAIN, life is about choice! Don't forget, this country is based on religious freedom.

  • Your faith can't be "destroyed" by anyone but yourself. I just think that it's wrong to think that there are just 2 sides: Christians and anti-Christians. The best question you could ask/answer is: "Is the Bible right? And true?". Becouse the Christian Religion is mainly based in the Bible, not by the sayings of people trying to define God. Think about probabilities. What is the probability of the Bible being really "writen by God"?

  • christians don't claim the bible is literally writen by god. it is supposed to be a gathering of various letters and documents about history and then later the son of god. none of it is supposed to be writen by god, that is why the scriptures often begin with "letter to the ..."
