@krnekipac1 the zi8 costs just a bit more and has a lot more features and better quality. i actually got my zi8 for $75 used. SOOO worth it. zi8 can also capture in 1080p 30 fps, which the zi6 can't do. looks like the encoding processes pretty much destroyed the video quality. I'll have to make sure I have everything prerendered with compressor or something so that it is ready for youtube and still in good quality.

Great idea. Flip camcorders are good in daylight and when u stand still. With this video i can see how "well" the image stabilizer working. JVC, toshiba, sony, samsung all the same. they said it has stabilizer but in the result it still shake.

everyone has different opinions. i notice a big difference in detail between both flip cameras. the kodak zi8 definitely seems clearer.

Thanks for the comparisons. I may get one of these. I have a back of the neck tingle that says wait to see the Zi9 first. Although, I have seen these on eBay go in 120 range, and accessories like 2 generic batteries with charger buy now for 12 makes it very tempting to get one now.

My only complaint is that it really struggles to cope with moving around, even with stabilization turned on.

Nice test, very thorough. I myself have the Zi8 and I love it after the firmware update, but I can't believe how ridiculously inept it was right out of the box.

interesting that ur zoom still 'suck' on zi8 .. after I did the firmware upgrade mine worked admirably .. before ...what a disappointment ... low light sucks but can't have everything ... I find the colours are great just wish I could easily upload 60fps vids from Dubai but they take hours!

tip one. turn on image stabilization. tip two. don't move around while using one of these. they aren't designed for that. unless you wanna give someone a stroke. shit man. take it easy.

im looking into this camera because for a pocket sized 1080p camera at $199 how can I go wrong? Is the digital zoom a little choppy though? With it zoom in slowly?

i bought a kodak c140 at walmart for 79.00 video 30 fps i don't see any difference from the c140 and the zi8 video.

if you upgrade the firmware it fixes the zoom problem. Very smooth now (Kodak has the firmware download and instructions on how to upgrade the device on their website, not too complicated). Current version is 1.06

Kodak has new firmware available. It fixes the zoom, nice and steady. Also has a slight update to settings menus. Had the camera for a week I LOVE IT! had the Creative VADO HD for several months. I miss the WIDE ANGLE of the VADO HD. But Kodak wins, steady shot, external mic input. Cant beat the value for price.

YouTube only does 720p at 30fps. Theres no point in 1080p or 720p at 60fps. Not dissing the camera though, I just ordered one. Its amazing.

Yes, these "stress tests" were me not shooting stable video on purpose to see how the camera responds. Normal video is fine.
