I have said this a thousand times, we do not have the technology to replace fossil fuel, when we do, yes go ahead do it, it will require a lot of money to do it when the technology arrives, so why insist on using inefficient technology that cost jobs and huge amounts of money without any real gain, to feel good?
The main "problems facing the public's understanding of climate change" are just a bunch of stupid, greedy people. Nothing much has changed over history.
@dannykeat, because the average dolt can only handle evidence that makes them feel good. Very few science-based videos get bulk viewership. That's the domain of flaky music videos and car crash scenes.
This is so on target. We can solve out needs for energy without burning stuff. But it does require stopping the distortion.Let's get our heads together and turn his work into actions that do maintain a spot in high probability portion of the pattern.
@janjamm: Yes, very well put. Don't know if anyone picked up on his statement about "knowing personally" about the risks associated with the biopsy, but he had acute mantle cell lymphoma. He argued risk asessment/analysis to the point that treatment protocols for the disease were changed. He even wrote a book on his experience called "The Patient From Hell".
Great presentation and congrats to Prof. Alley, the "Mr. Wizzard" of the 21st Century. Hopefully Peter Sinclair, @greenman3610 will win next year's award.
Your value is extraordinary true, too bad the governments globally deny the price which we all shall pay when mother nature unleash her unstoppable fury of storms (also known as her Tipping Point)
This is a brilliant video. Professor Schneider clearly explains the challenges that science communicators face in explaining such a complex phenomenon, and inspiring laypeople to move with the same urgency that those of us who have understood this for a while, feel.
His presentation of the medical model of problem solving using an illness like cancer, which is usually a complicated matrix of variables, helps to demonstrate the difficulty of simply offering a "yes" or "no" answer to climate change. Also, suggesting that all opinions have the same weight really undermines the importance of climate scientist's work. There is no disagreement about climate change. The question is what are we going to do about it. How are we going to deal with a cancer?
