I must say that its not a good idea to use a sponge as an air filter but might be good in a pinch. Basically your choking off the carb and your going to run rich wich could cause more issues.
Too bad this video didn't come out before I retired my old lawnmower. I never even thought to check out the spark plug but thinking on it now, a lot of the problems I had probably came from it being blocked.
I just started mowing last year, and I've neglected to polish the blades of my mower since then. Now they're rusted up. The mower still works fine but I keep fearing the blades will get dull or the mower might get dangerous to use. Any advice on how to clean them up? I was told I should rub the blades with oil and a rag, but I want to make sure before I really do anything.
You forgot the #1 reason for those that use their mower only seasonally. Your petrol/gas is old. Drain out your old petrol/gas.... refill... then try again. Old petrol/gas will go bad and not work.... How did you miss this?
Hmm, I'll check the zorst on my Flymo, it starts but then dies straight away. The plug is clean. My fuel filter is part of the plastic tank, so I can't look at it at all. DOH!
. When I have cleaned out 2 stroke bike exhausts, they go in the bath, with a strong caustic soda and water mixture in them for a couple of days. But no one should try this without safety clothing like gloves and glasses this stuff burns skin. Oh yes, plus caustic soda/ sodium hydroxide/lye attacks aluminium.
My mower recently farted and shat itself. Carby needed a clean, mower needed a general service and the cord you move to determine the engine speed was damaged. Cost me $84.20 to fix.
Do I need to change the oil on my electric mower? Or my electric strimmer? Only kidding - I did change the brushes this year - probably saved me 150 dollars!
i use premuim gas too. also in canada where we only use lawn movers only 4 months a year is to run the lawn mover in the fall till it runs out of gas. or put in a fuel stabilizer. whe the motor sits 8 months in the garage the gas gets old a gums up the carb and motor
Yeah Greg, I appreciate the how to on the lawn mower but I prefer to do mine the old fashioned way. By praying to the Lord Jesus. It hasn't let me down yet....lmao
Great video,Greg. Do you do all your gardening in bare feet? ; )
The accelerator cable on my lawn mower snapped about 2 months back. It was my Mum's old lawn mower. I haven't been bothered to attempt to fix it. I just borrow the old ladies when I gotta cut my lawn, even though I need a ride on mower for my block!
Overall, I enjoy the tips and like they say, you learn something new every day. cheers mate.
It really bugs the shit out of me how much computer and automobile services cost you from a specialized shop, in comparison to how much it costs to teach yourself, and do it yourself. :/
Oh man this reminds me I snapped the housing on the cables of my lawn mower. They froze in the winter and when I pushed the snow blower by they caught and snapped.
I just change the oil and wash the air filter. Pour in some new gas and fire it up. Sometimes I check under the deck for build up.
Let's just say I am lazy about taking care of the lawn mower... and I have paid for it many times. Thanks for the reminder that I need to be nicer to my mower ;)

Can you use something other than kerosene for clearing out the exhaust?
afeeser 5 months ago
another good way to unclog and exhaust is to make a good hot fire and toss it in there. it will burn all the carbon out of the muffler.

Is it bad that my engine hasn't been serviced in like 6 years, other than oil changes? It's worked fine, but why??

you shod never tip your mower to the sides with gas because the gas can get in to the oil lol

I use hot water and soap on the air filter. Let it air dry. Then apply a very light oil to the filter. Before replacing it.
