I'm in the RMT program and we were taught not to do long strokes for people with hypertension. On top of it your rhythm is too fast which will increase blood flow which is NOT what you want to do. If you did that at the OSCE's you would fail and never get your diploma. And your draping skills are terrible. Even your stance is bad.
@Procrastinater09 Thank you for comment. Since you are a student I would like to teach you norms of professional discussion which are: when you make a statement:” not to do long strokes for people with hypertension” you must explain why not to do so. When you stating:” On top of it your rhythm is too fast” you must explain what frequency of performances should there be and why?
When you state: ”which will increase blood flow and which is NOT what you want to do.” you must explain what does it mean “increase blood flow” and why the outcome of it will be bad. Also expressing a professional opinion a person must do a research on the subject. For example: visit the website of person who you’re trying to challenge and read an article on the subject. Maybe then the comment could be avoided because you would actually know more.
@mgaft1 I understand what you mean, but increasing blood flow will thus increase blood pressure. Whether there is enough research to prove this I do not know, but as a precaution under the CMTO (college of Massage Therapist of Ontario) where we are health care providers. In the US they are NOT and most of the Canadian provinces (except 3 including Ontario, B.C, Newfoundland/Labrador) and doing long strokes is a contraindication for hypertension. **to be continued**.
@Procrastinater09 this is good that you believing in your belongings to healthcare, but it is not healthy to feel superior to the other.probably CMTO is a good educational institution but by talking bad on other educational entities will not make you better. It also can make bad impression on CMTO.I mean if graduates not trained or forgot professional ethics it doesn't contribute to the name of CMTO.
@mgaft1 Our program is based on research, if not it would not be accepted since it could harm the public. That is what RMT program is about, protecting the public. If you have the source about how doing long strokes will decrease blood pressure let me know where you got it.
@Procrastinater09 agree with you .it is very important to protect public from harm but if program of RMTs is about to protect public only it isn't good enough. massage therapy is about to achieve results in cases of stress management, orthopedic disorders est.you should visit my website and when you will click on articles please read my preliminary study report on role of medical massage in hypertension management.I will be very happy if It will help you not to jump to conclusions.
yeah, your right, your comments is right, were same question , and also his style for massage is not specified if that technique is for High blood or for becoming lower blood. he dont have one stroke for massage
This is not Boris, but the person who maintains this site. Just want to point out that since the title of this clip is "Massage for Hypertension" ( Hypertension is actually means High Blood Pressure), the purpose of this massage is to lower high blood pressure.

sorry but the guy getting the massage should cut on fat and salt? He hardly has a neck due to some not so healthy diet. A massage can help but the hypertension will remain as long the bad diet is there. This individual should have more greens and fruits....less salt and fatty food? thanks.
Dear butifarra61 . your general advice is correct . I am demonstrating techniques on person who is very healthy and used to be professional athlet. however many statistics indicating that stress is the main cause for pandemic phenomena of essential hypertension and many people who not overweight and eating good not salty food are suffering from this dangerous diseases. Thanks for good and educational comment.
More than most videos about massage available online, you literally radiate professionalism and knowledge about the therapy. Extremely interesting stuff, great work, and really relaxing to watch too. You're a legend!
Now all I have to do is swim the Atlantic to get over there, i'll probably require therapy at that point :)
Thank you very much for kind words. very nice of you. no doubt if you will swim Atlantic you will require post event rehabilitative sports massage.LOL.
I actually had a question if you'd indulge me; as a therapist do you find that you develop strains yourself by actually giving different massages? For example, your lower back, shoulders etc?
It just struck me watching this (again!) that being on your feet and applying pressure to varying massages might actually affect your own muscles as the masseur...
Dear infam0us1000. thank you for thinking so high on me and finding time to post this nice comment. really not sure if in my fields exist some measurement such as"Best". what I am

At the time of research scientists tested safety of method as well as tested how effective it by including control group of patients to have statistics for placebo effect. Most importantly, for 30 years this protocols proved to be not only safe but effective too. Please advice to massage practitioners to learn this protocol
that I propose on my DVD#2. DVD Details are on my website.
if your question is regarding:Essential hypertension, diabetes type2, anxieties, clinical depression and more then many of these diseases related to stress.for detail on negative effect of stress please view my youtube"Stress management" clip. please keep in mind scientifically and clinically proven:" medical massage therapy is the most powerful methodology for stress management"
Essential hypertension, diabetes type2, anxieties, clinical depression and more is related to stress that debilitating on our health. this is the reason why I decided to produce DVD self stress and tension headaches management programs. soon this DVDs will be available for general public. in order to be notified please subscribe to our youtube account. for detail on negative effect of stress please view my "Stress management" clip.
I have Occipital Neuralgia and go to physical therapy all the time. Massage does nothing for it, in fact it seems to make it worse. The same goes for anyone else whom I've talked to with Occipital Neuralgia. The biggest thing that helps is heat. I don't mean to sound negative, I'm sure you mean well. But it does nothing for O.N.
I wish it did. I would be able to work more and not lose my home.
I am very sorry to hear about your sufferings and financial loss. Occipital neuralgia is a general term that does not specify involvement of specific nerve that produces neurological pain. I am assuming you meant greater occipital nerve neuralgia that mostly results from over-tense cervical muscles, which compresses this nerve. If you were treated by application of Swedish massage techniques only, then this could be the reason why massage didnt help.
What should be used in this case is the Medical Massage. It is composed of the following modalities: connective tissue massage; trigger point therapy, post-isometric relaxation, muscular mobilization. Application of the mentioned modalities usually leads to successful output such as (less pain in the cervical region, less headaches, less eye pressure.) I would recommend finding a specialist whos familiar with these types of modalities.
In about a month my self-treatment DVDs for neck and upper back disorders will be available. In this DVD I will teach how to perform a step by step, easy to study self-treatment protocol that will contain all the mentioned above modalities. In addition in this DVD I will propose special exercise program. I will also teach how to appropriately perform hot and cold applications. This DVD will be very affordable for any budget (less than one copayment).

sorry posted comment too early.... stil just a normal massage and the mechanisms are just the same to what a massage theripist will say is happening....why is it a medical massage
The term Medical Massage and Therapeutic Massage means the same thing, which is to provide therapy by means of massage. Therapy means health benefits to the human body and that is what medical massage therapy stands for.
Massage Therapy encompasses different disciplines, specializations and expertise. For example, Full Body Medical Stress Management Massage associates important methods in managing side effects of stress including high blood pressure, anxiety, tension headaches, ulcers.
Orthopedic Massage deals with procedures designed to treat back & limb disorders that could be results of sports related injuries, industrial injuries, car accidents and etc... Sports massage including pre and post event sports massage procedures. Pre-event sports massage helps us prepare athletes to perform better as well as prevent sports related injuries. Post-event sports massage focuses on rehabilitating athletes from the side effects of vigorous exercise and overtraining.
First of all I would like you to know that I do appreciate your comment. if you would listen careful I'm saying and repeating that this introductory- preparation procedure to the main protocol. I hope that my explanations gave some answers to your questions. Best wishes and regards.
I passionately love my occupation, and when somehow I can help by providing hands-on therapy or through teaching( in our case explanation) sharing my many years of experience, pleasure is all my. Best wishes.
These short fragment from more than 2 hr DVD#2 where I demonstrate step-by-step hands-on protocol for treatment of hypertension secondary to vertebral artery syndrome as it was proposed in 1973 by Russian Professor Aleksandr Dembo MD. Phd. please view youtube fragment on " Causes of hypertension" this protocol eliminate all of them. you also welcome to visit my website read my article which is actually preliminary study report that I personally did hear in U.S. Best.
Hi helgaperez. On DVD#4 during more than 2 hours,I in detail explain mechanism and causes of thoracic outlet syndrome development , demonstrate techniques of myofascial release including trigger point therapy and traction of ASM ( view youtube fragment carpal tunnel and thoracic outlet syndrome)2. Another step by step hands on protocol is how to provide treatment to clients who suffering from rotator cuff/ frozen shoulder. Will continue in next reply. thanks
Additionally to soft tissue mobilization techniques, this hands on protocol including post-isometric relaxation techniques for range of motion improvement. also with the use of a model, I explain and demonstrate in details how to perform precise rehabilitative exercises on the shoulder region.3. Also on this DVD I covered in detail the treatment for tennis/golf elbow, including periostal massage.Youtube allow 500 characters only. will continue in next reply.
4.Treatment for the pandemically problematic carpal tunnel syndrome is also clearly explained and demonstrated in the same detailed manner. 5.Finally, I in detail demonstrate and explain European cranial-sacral clinical biomechanic approach( view youtube fragment"Medical Massage") as developed by Bulgarian scientist Boris Ivanov, MD.Clinical biomechanic approach techniques are proven to be a powerful method for correction of posture, spinal as well as whole-body biomechanics correction.
This set of European cranial-sacral techniques, including scapula manipulation, spinal mobilization, and traction for the cervical and lumbar spine, can be beneficial for scoliosis conditions.
As you can see on this DVD I covered many not related abnormalities which means by purchasing 1DVD you receiving many topics. Technically impossible all of them to be presented on youtube. Best regards.
Dear helgaperez. Scoliosis producing pain, discomfort ets. in case if lateral curve will progress over 40 degrees can even indanger life. Procedure that I propose on DVD#4 can cause significant decrease of pain sensation, contribute to improvement of functional activities and with time in some cases will decrease the degrees of lateral curve. Best wishes
If scoliosis not bigger than as 35 degrees, on my DVD#4 you can find comprehensive cranialsacral biomechanical correction techniques that can help. however these techniques have to be performed careful not to push strong in direction of scoliosis curve but gentle to the opposite direction. Best wishes.
Dears16kirmit I just feel that your warning have to be clarifi a bit. Massage therapy does cause acceleration of venous blood drainage which in turn reduce cardio work but not"return too much blood to the heart....". We achieving reduction of blood pressure by causing deletion of arterial vessels. No doubt if you not trained well you shouldn't touch people who suffering from hypertension and other diseases. Appreciate your comment. Boris

Best regards.

so if a scoliotic pt may have a massage therapy not more than 35 degrees, wat would be the outcome or desired effect of it?
helgaperez 3 years ago
Dear helgaperez. Scoliosis producing pain, discomfort ets. in case if lateral curve will progress over 40 degrees can even indanger life. Procedure that I propose on DVD#4 can cause significant decrease of pain sensation, contribute to improvement of functional activities and with time in some cases will decrease the degrees of lateral curve. Best wishes

helgaperez 3 years ago
Dear helgaperez.

Warning - Depending on the degree of hypertension, it's not always safe to massage in a manner that would return too much blood to the heart.
s16kirmit 4 years ago
Dears16kirmit I just feel that your warning have to be clarifi a bit. Massage therapy does cause acceleration of venous blood drainage which in turn reduce cardio work but not"return too much blood to the heart....". We achieving reduction of blood pressure by causing deletion of arterial vessels. No doubt if you not trained well you shouldn't touch people who suffering from hypertension and other diseases. Appreciate your comment. Boris
