yo Guru was saying some real shit right there...the game done changed in a way that people are still not catching on to, especially when he was talking about iTunes, the CD is now obsolete, and now the internet is the label, scratch that the internet is the industry now, you can market, express yourself, connect talk chat, damn near everything, and its true because lets say, what if you did want to protect yourself from the internet, how would you do it? Seriously how would you do when everythin
@akaBIGWORDyaheard true there is no way to protect your music from the internet. There will be software the next week to rip any format that can be created. That shit aint good at all
so very true. nowadays people will buy one song from a rapper's album off itunes. the estimated amount the rapper is looking for from their whole album would be divided depending on how many songs are on that album and how many were purchased (not including expenses i.e. videos, promotion, etc.). if that makes sense : )
interview was big. it has opened my eyes to what im gonna with my stuff. I think the best move for me as a producer is to sell my tracks on my own website.
I don't know if it will work but, it makes sense for all the money to come back to me.
he has a good point about itunes and steve jobs....but theylabels dont "give him" music as he put it. itunes pays a premium to seel it. they make very minimum profit, which is why they were threatening to shut down last year because labels were trying to raise that price by like a couple cents and they were mad because that would have made their already slight profit even smaller....but I do agree with what he is saying overall.
another thing to think about is this is why major labels will be on their way out. one day someone is going to say to hell with going to the middle man for distribution (majors). i can go directly to the supplier (itunes, myspace, etc) and sell my product. AND the artists have to learn to start making good albums, not just good singles. if you make more good songs for that album you won't have people buying just 2-3 songs off of that album. they'll buy the whole album! it's common sense...
@secondbest21 Too bad common sense doesn't always lead to the truth. Lupe Fiasco's albums are incredible, but guess what would have happened if those same albums were released 5 years from now? Kick push and Superstar would sell thousands, while the rest of the album would be left in the dust.
Artists didn't get bad, people just got stupid, and record labels took advantage of that. Now we're in a time where people are still stupid, and artists have little incentive to produce thoughtful work.

that was some good advice. They do need to think over how they should market their music.
