@Guitarmansg97 Most firearms will say in the manual that you shouldn't reload and it does void warranty. However how do they know what you have been shooting through your gun ;)
im still deciding if i should reload or not, do you think i would save money if i reloaded 20 guage 8 shot? i know you dont reload shotgun shells very much but i need an experienced opinion
@renoretards Haha. Right. RCBS single stage press, 6 sets of RCBS dies, scale, loading blocks, bullet puller, and bullets. Garage sale FTW. Even buying brand new Lee anniversary kit for $100 is all you need to get started.
I use the same Dillon Pwd.sys. but i make the powder balance weight up to ten times higher. as example: to get exact 5 grain, i put the scale to 50 grains an fill ten cases in the pan. If then only 48 grains ore 52 in, i adjust it ! That brings me more then to one Championchip ...
hickock, would it not be more precise to try to get the powder directly into the scale from the powder measure? if you transfer it to a casing then to the scale, theres a chance for some loss or some gets stuck in the casing or whathaveyou, is this ever an issue?
@Am4h8 On this press the powder measure is activated when a case presses up on the powder funnel which is caliber specific. It seems it would be tricky at best to activate the measure with the pan from the scale. You uestion is valid, but as hickok said...
Hey Hickok, what is your set up for reloading 10mm auto (powder, powder weight, ect.)? I've seen your videos of you shooting your 10mm handloads and they look like they work really well.
Is it just me or are Lyman loads just a little on the hot side? I was comparing some .45 Colt loads in Lyman versus Hornady's manual using the same bullet/powder combo. Lyman seemed a bit hotter.
wow i didnt know you did a series on this! great.. listen in one of my manuals " lee " it says not to use reloaded ammo in glocks.. is this true?? they say the chamber is not supported. due to the ramp feed.. all i have is a glock and i just bought a press.. i feel pretty dumb as i should have searched this first. "noob.. thanks like your vids.
@mjmoto72 I think basically every manufacturer in existence will void their factory warranty if you shoot reloads. However, as long as you are mindful with your powder charges it should be fine in my opinion. Unless your making really hot rounds, too much pressure. Anyone has any ideas feel free to contradict me. I don't have a glock so certainly don't stop with my answer. But a reloader is a great investment. I imagine you will own more than one gun worth reloading, so play with it.- Cams
@cobolt13 why would the gun powder blow up? If you light the powder on fire in an open environment it just burns really hot really fast and is gone. When it is enclosed in a casing, that is where the pressure causes the projectile to move. I have canisters of powder in my room and I never work about them. Just store primers away from them. haha
You know for some reason you seam like the nicest guy on the planet. Very knowledgable also. Im trying to get into reloading, I hope I can pass on my passion like you do. Great job friend. Wish you the best.
Now this man seems responsible and careful with weaponry, anti gun advocates are not worried about people like this man, we are worried about the anti everything man that is buying 12 guns a month, dear lord make them all talk to this man
Its great that your taking the time to teach about all the different aspects of shooting. I'm going to keep watching untill you stop making the videos! I wish yuo were my neighbor so i could pick your brain! Great job!
That scale is old enough to qualify for historical, don't matter they never go bad. I do the same thing, set the charge and run. I know they say you should check every 100 rounds or so.I guess I loaded over a1000 rounds before I rechecked the charge and it was dead on. So I guess if you don't change powder or mess with the adjustments you should be O K.
the reloading manuel is like the reloaders bible.. If you follow the commandments you will be in heaven when your shooting your guns break the commandments and you could reck your gun and hurt yourself Great video ! ! !
You have an awsome setup. I love your target range, and your reload area. Not to mention your arsenal. I hope someday I can achieve something similar.
Wow, you just made me feel incredibly stupid. Of all the times I have adjusted my powder charge, (with the dillon 550b) I never once thought to just pull that stupid button out of the way. I have been rotating my case out of the machine for all this time!
Thanks Hickok, you have truly taught me something useful!
By the way, what powder and how much do you use for your 10mm loads? My current load almost fills the case up. I think my bullet may be compacting the powder a little bit.
I am still .2 grains under the maximum charge listed and I show no signs of over-pressure, but it is not as if there is a definitive way for me to be sure.
I was thinking of switching powders just for cost effectiveness. 14.4g of powder per round does not stretch a pound of powder very far.
I already have a chronograph. I know where my loads are as far as power and whatnot, I was just curious what powder he uses in his 10mm loads because I would like to be able to load them with less powder (but keep similar power) to get more cost effectiveness.
Balance scales are "in my opinion" the most reliable/accurate for the money. All digital scales I have seen measure in grams and convert to grains. Even if it measures to .01 grams that still converts to .154 grains. Read as digital scales will read in .2 grain increments.
Not a big deal in larger rifle powder volumes (unless you'r loading for benchrest accurracy) but a huge deal in smaller pistol calibers where min. and max loads only differ by tenths of a grain.
Great video Mr. Hickok. I was using a Lee balance scale until I was having problems with it holding it's "zero", so moved on to an electronic scale. I went with something small & economical, but I ALWAYS weigh out the first 5 charges, just to make sure I'm right where I need to be. I need to get off my ass and make a video on my reloading set up too. 5 *
As someone new to shooting (I started 1 1/2 years ago) and reloading (I have a press I have never used) I thank you for putting this out there. This is just the type of information I need.

I really enjoy watching your re-loading videos. They are very informative and I have learned a whole lot since I am only buying commercial ammunition. Thanks for putting the time into informing those of us who have never reloaded our own ammo.
Great vid. On the hodgdon online data. Have you seen the 45super data? I load 45 acp. If you use 6.0gr Hp-38 powder & 230gr ball cup pressure 19900. Isn't that safe for any 45? AA data has all there max loads at 20000 cup.
