  • Abrams is not entirely without talent or vision, but on the whole, nothing exceptional. He's another kid born into the industry and given all the breaks very early on. Which isn't to say that he is without ability, or hasn't earned his place-Regarding Henry alone is pretty remarkable in light of his other offerings--but still, I can show you 100 more talented, more visionary minds in Hollywood that will never see the light of day simply because their daddies weren't TV producers before them.

    But: the time travel part was not nessacerry(or spock)

    so that last part ruined it for me for i hate time travel and i hereby dont like star trek anymore. Its a bout discovering new worlds and aliens, not old ones from the future or past:(

  • I thought this new Trek film was pretty good. Actor who did Dr. McCoy got him perfectly I guess this might be silly but the ONLY part I didn't like about movie was the END CREDITS - was just too cheesy for me. (maybe it was intentional so as to not break a precedent? lol)

  • Just saw the movie and loved it. I've seen every episode of the origianl Star Trek tv show and all the movies and I love this one.

    I was never a Kirk fan, always loved Spock so I'm very happy. I liked that we get to see glimpses of Spocks human side because he was half human. Loved the relationship with Spock and Uhurer (sp) which taps back to the 1st Season of the oiginal series where there was clearly some flirting going on with those 2 characters.

  • J. J. Abrams knows his productions well just like any other director... Although, with regards to Cloverfield, I get the feeling that the stigma of a straight to DVD movie was enough incentive to make a few thousand people nauseous in cinemas across the world.

    Making people feel sick when they watch a movie is quite the achievement though, because people sat there feeling ill, and didn't get up or leave because the internal reality or plot is enthralling... That's a difficult thing to do.

Take LOST for instance, which i like actually, yet he is going with the whole "pirate ship wheel" at the bottom of a well that makes everyone time travel? And what about Alias?   • A series is never written by just one man. And there are soo many things, which can force a crew to change some plans for their projects. For example, an actor left. Personnally, i hate the irregular plots in Alias but i love the whole Lost story.

  • J. J. Abrams is hardly the only person involved in the making of Lost, and I'd argue he isn't even the person with the most influence. I would place more responsibility on Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof as they're the predominant writers for the show.

    Moreover, from what I understand, Abrams' influence has become more limited over the past couple of seasons.

  • I love Lost, and, liked Cloverfield. I'm looking forward to his take on Star Trek. (It'll take a few promos for me to get used to Syler as Spock, though. LOL)

    I'm REALLY REALLY looking forward to the Dark Tower series on film. I wonder when he'll be able to start filming?

  • If he really wants to do a good Star Trek movie, he should call in some of the big Trek writers to come in and advise him. Manny Coto, Michael Piller, Ron Moore, Sal Lagonia, Ira Stephen Behr, etc. Please, JJ, call them when you want to make a sequal, they know what Trek is about.

  • This does not bode well for Bad Robot. I've read many fan reactions on this site and others and their seems to be a prevailing consensus that the new look of the Enterprise is all wrong. Misproportioned, unbalanced, a mish-mash of classic Enterprise with movie Enterprise, a galaxyquest inspired Enterprise, and just plain butt ugly are some of the critiques I have heard. Perhaps they should have taken more time to refine the final design rather than trust a dude who has no idea what makes it tick

  • The History Channel's Dogfight series is one of the best informative and entertaining series on television today. I just checked out about 12 episodes on Netflix and I thought they were fantastic. The reenactments using computer graphics lend's itself well and hearing the first hand accounts from the pilots themselves adds to the package. I would like to own the entire series on DVD if they are available. 5 stars to the brave men and women of combat aviation. I salute you all.

  • When it comes to lost, i'm lost. cloverfield was meh. Star Trek gives me chills, for 2 reasons. 1. it looks so fucking amazing 2. this movie will literaly make or break the star trek franchise. since enterprise was a flop, i think this is trek's last hope.

    I'm affraid this new ST prequel(despite probably great special fx and action)most of the casting is just way off, even if they are the younger versions, especially Kirk who looks nothing like young Shatner(even if he's 10 or 12 years younger!)Solo? yeah just pic any Asian(morons) Ohura? skinny as a toothpic(wrong!) Maybe Spock is the only one that comes close. The wrong casting is a big thing and is more than enough to ruin it for me.

    I heard a rumour from a friend about a new JJ Abrams youtube only project.

    My friend is working at the Moving Picture Company (MPC) in Soho, London, he told me that he has recently finished painting out people and vehicles on some footage of London and that it was for a secret JJ Abrams project.Has anyone heard about this. It's presented as a real documentary and JJ seems to be using a fake name to keep the project feeling real.Does anyone know about this?
