@purplehaze216 it's just a myth. i for one wouldn't go anywhere in time where they didn't have toothpaste and anti-deodorant, or where they don't know the meaning of the term 'freedom of expression'. the past is really important, though. it's part of who we are today and it's an inspiration. but often it is used by unimaginative, oppressive pricks who have no vision of their own. i would say though that at least in europe we seem to be losing track of both the present and the past.
This piece always really annoyed me. I can't listen to it without getting a sick feeling - it just needs to go SOMEWHERE. And yes, I accept that I'm very much alone. I guess I only expect to hear this sort of thing for a few seconds while an orchestra tunes.
@SmartMusicHero For god's sake, man. Contemplate the grand primordial ooze, gurgling and bubbling and swirling and whirling and emerging... Now, can you imagine any better way of conjuring up this primeval reality than this incredible music by a unique, audacious, unmitigated genius?!!!!!
@Sshelly34213 Well, you didn't seem so definite in your original comment, lol. The version you have may well be slower but I wouldn't think this one could be called "very speedy".
That's the Marksburg above the village of Braubach. Has nothing in common with the Ring saga, but because it's one of the most beautiful castles of Romantic Rhine, I thought it would be nice to use that picture for the music.
Aww. All that buildup and then.... it ends.

Wow. After this, you just can't go another day thinking that man is just another animal. I wonder what other species' definitions of beauty are?

@Sshelly34213 It's just you.

@lewars1912 No it's definitely not, the version I currently have is much slower paced than this one.

@lewars1912 Lol, I have no idea what the time signature calls for, so I don't know if it's speedy. That's why I made the comment in the first place

I saw Rheingold in Bayreuth the one year Solti was conducting there (1984?). Unforgettable evening.
