It may just be something done solely in the media but I always wondered why Italian characters always did that weird thing with their hands. What I mean is the thing where they hold their thumb together with their index or two middle fingers and do that strange shaking hand gesture.
My apologies if my description sounds too vague but I'm sure some of you may know what I mean
At 3:10, the gesture that Bugs makes can be interpreted in Italy as "f-you" or, more specifically, "up yours!" How did that ever get past the Hays Office?
@Applemask - A reference to the actual slogan used by Lucky Strike cigarettes in their radio and television commercials of that day (when cigarette commercials weren't only legal, but also very widespread). Daffy Duck also used that slogan quite freely. See an actual Lucky Strike commercial which uses that very slogan here on YouTube: youtube.com/watch?v=7lt4u1hAy-E .
No insult intended, friend. You asked why Columbus was portayed as Italian, so I let you know. Easy, buddy......like the man said, it's just a cartoon.....
i can't believe that there are comments with people name calling and swearing up here on this great cartoon, that someone was cool enough to upload here on youtube !!..it's a fucking cartoon, enjoy it and stop acting like a horse's ass....seriously !
@vampire09100 what the hell are you talking about ?..you think you could relax there, neanderthal ?..it's a cartoon and no one is insulting you for whatever mistake your insane mind is talking about....i'm simply stating that those who are using foul mouthed language up here while kids are exposed to these cartoons is just moronic, and unnecessary....why in the hell would you be threatening me and calling me names, you imbecile ?..are you retarded ?..
@vampire09100 and by the way , you uneducated fart bag, learn how to phrase your sentences an learn how to spell before open your big fat mouth..it's people like you that make this world a sometimes shitty place to live in, and you should be with the rest of the extinct homo sapiens that walked the earth thousands of years ago..they actually had more brains than you do, and you shouldn't even be considered civilized..you're a waste of human skin...
@vampire09100 wobrien007 is right. He was Italian. He simply sailed for Spain because Isabella believed his story and they suddenly had three spare ships because the war was over. For full info, look it up!
@dragonson04 REAL TOUGH GUY YOU ARENT....I BET YOU WOULDNT SAY SHIT TO SOMEONES FACE.....YOUR A FUCKIN COWARD OR AS THE SAYING GOES KEYBOARD TOUGHGUY!! LMAO TOSSER!!

@boRalto you gonna hide 'racism and ignorance' for glorifying idioticthinking of the past? Next you'll say Hitler's theories of science and human studies are noteworthy
@Dzubur93 No, Columbus was actually from Italy and he was hired by Ferdinand of Spain to find the East Indies. It's confusing to me as well; in all the references cartoons have made about Columbus, none of them ever mentioned where he was from
@mikeimp91 You're right, I forgot to mention that. But after watching the Nostalgia Critic's review of the movie, I think it was a good idea NOT to remember it
@Mokkari77 You're right, very perceptive. The "Bugs Bunny King Ferdinand" does have a Mexican, rather than a Castilian Spanish, dialect. Very amusing.
The world has always been flat and that's that. Next someones gonna try and say the Earth aint the center of the universe and that the Sun dont revolve around 'er neither. BUT YOU AINT FOOLIN ME!
I remember as a kid in history class, even tho they tried to teach me that America was discovered by Columbus, in my heart, I knew that it was Bugs Bunny.
@Protheeus Well, since Christopher Columbus was in fact Genoese (Genoese, as in from Genoa, as in --in 1492-- the ITALIAN city-state)...it makes-a a-sense (a lot of people, especially in 1951 probably wouldn't know that-- shows the animators did-a their homework).
@WeRd4340 It's "ears," not "ass!" It sounds like it, but it's not it. I don't think they would've allowed their cartoon characters to speak like that! At least, if it's going to be shown to women and children.
@CodyCodafer amen to that. i wasnt around when bugs bunny first came out hell im only 18 but man, these cartoons are still way more funny then that shit thats on today. id much rather watch this.
