i have a african cichlid tank thats ben runing about 2 months and i was woundaring if i could put peacock cichlids with them if it would live? or any advice on how to make that happen? thinks!
All those OB's are going to kill each other when they're older. At full size and full aggression the dominant fish will fight to the death with the other fish that share its colors. That's why all male tanks are so difficult.
Nice tank. Mbunda's will aggrivate peacocks. They are much more aggresive. And 40 gallons would not be large enough for that many peacocks, I would say 4-6 max in a 40 gallon. Of course you can crowd peacocks more than you can a lot of fish due to their natural overcrowding in the wild. Slightly overcrowding will also cut down on agression, and shake up territorial issues. Just make sure you do 30% water changes once a week and have a well cycled and over-filtered tank.
@lexingtonff never do that large amounth of water changes a week in on time , because you take out to many active bacteria do 2x 15% water change its better
ty but definatly not stagnant.....2 pennplax 350gph filters and 2 402 powerheads....if your talkin about the surface, i placed the powerheads to not hit the surface...this way when i feed flakes they have a better chance of eating them all... :D
I have some of Skittles juvies and they are coloring up nicely.. And a peaches is in the making.. Not to sure I want a holloween.. HEY Roach!! How are the fish we traded on last week??
Love your video--your tank is beautiful! Hey do you happen to know if all the male OB peacock's have the egg spots on their anal fin? I just got one that does not have the spots, but it seems too bright and colorful to be female. I've been searching all over online but haven't found anything definitive. If not the spots, is there another way to tell? Thanks!!
ive just bought a 70 g tank to do a peacock tank and i put my rainbow chichlids in there and they breed and ruined my plans lol,but im doing a peacock tank soon.nice tank.
nice tank dude ive been having terrible luck with my cichlids recently lost 2 oscars to an unknown internal problem now im trying drawf cichlids and and loaches, had them all a month and my 3 loaches died from whitespote i treated it and treated it and it wouldnt go!! how many of those peacocks could i put in a 58 gallon? are they ok with live plants?
you shouldn't have ricky bobby in there coreys and chiclids dont get along hes prolly back and forth all day long cuz the other fish will try to eat him.. suggest taking the corey catfish outta there. sincerely kim
actually they dont mess with him at all, in fact he hangs out right in the middle of group alot. i do understand that under most circumstances he would get picked on or eaten.
but i can assure you that noone messes with him, if they did he would have been out of there a long time ago.
I've got a mostly Malawi tank, with an OB and a Rubin Red, but my OB has recently started terrorizing my RR. To the point where now my red mostly swims vertically in the top corner of the tank. Not sure what to do about him, I've heard multiple peacocks have a hard time getting along with eachother, or do you think getting a few more RR's in there to confuse the OB into losing him in a chase might help?
lol well, every 2 weeks i pull all the rocks out of the tank, vaccum the sand and change 25% of the water, as far as the glass i use the magnetic cleaners,...also i have an 8inch pleco, and about 15 black mystery snails also which pretty much takes care of algae lol.
those are actually granite, they use em around here in rivines and drainage ditches ect...its actually the same thing gravel driveways are made of just crushed up u can use almost any kind of rock as long as you clean it up good
Wow ... Skittles is a great looking fish. And you gotta love Ricky Bobby ... LOL. Great looking fish. I just added two OB Peacocks to my big tank ... very nice looking fish and add an element the others don't. Very nice!

only one of the fish in the tank is a male... If the ob has spots on its anal fin its male and if it has non its female.
check2wice 2 years ago
You're right. I wasn't thinking to check for egg spots. Now that I look, that is the only male.
wimpyshrub 2 years ago
shows what you know retard.. it is a TRIO he has, do you even know what the fuck that is? 1 male and the rest are female for BREEDING..
Very nice by the way, that male is beautiful
