Zendrig, it's been shown that martial arts (including MMA) instills disciplines in kids and gives them confidence and security, thus reducing their tendency to resort to violence. This is very true from what I've seen. (Most of the street fights you can see here are of kids who definitely did NOT take martial arts).
Also, the basis of your argument is completely wrong. These athletes do not fight to settle disputes. They fight for fun and to make a living.
I seriously think you should re-consider your position. Although it's understandable, it stems from being misinformed or uninformed. All the shit-talking and "feuds" you see on MMA events on TV are done for promotion. It gives people another reason to watch the fight. Real MMA schools don't teach that kind of nonsense. Also, all that shit-talking and 'feuds" only happen amongst a minority of the fighters.
Keep in mind too that even traditional martial arts have assholes.

I met Matt Hughes at a figth in St Joe MO. He was there signing Autographs. HE shook hands with us and actually talked a bit about where we were from. He seemed pretty sool to me.
SO I bought his book. Quick read. This hype guys, totaly generated, he even says so. Its a way to get more people into a growing sport where 3rd string NFL players make more money a year.
When they all train they way they do to compete, I think there is a mutual respect between each fighter.

Serra is actually a nice guy. Very polite and respectful of those who train under him.
Talking from EXPERIENCE.
He's here in NY and has 2 schools. Haven't been to the other, where he isn't there usually. Rather train under the guy himself.
I've seen occasional temper flares but no different than any other coach of any other sport.
They did exaggerate those statements and rivalry for the show, but that's not how it is in real life. You don't think they want a selling point?

Zendrig, it's been shown that martial arts (including MMA) instills disciplines in kids and gives them confidence and security, thus reducing their tendency to resort to violence. This is very true from what I've seen. (Most of the street fights you can see here are of kids who definitely did NOT take martial arts).
Also, the basis of your argument is completely wrong. These athletes do not fight to settle disputes. They fight for fun and to make a living.

I seriously think you should re-consider your position. Although it's understandable, it stems from being misinformed or uninformed. All the shit-talking and "feuds" you see on MMA events on TV are done for promotion. It gives people another reason to watch the fight. Real MMA schools don't teach that kind of nonsense. Also, all that shit-talking and 'feuds" only happen amongst a minority of the fighters.
Keep in mind too that even traditional martial arts have assholes.

Gotta say, this show is really a disgrace to MMA. I'll admit that I indulge in it a bit but I can't help but worry about the impression it gives newcomers to the sport. Really they're all a bunch of assholes and I doubt Dana would have gotten away with this when MMA was struggling, but now that it's in fine form he doesn't care.

What's Serra's excuse though? I thought he was supposed to fight Hughes before he took on either the first fight with GSP or the rematch. Fine, his injury is serious enough to take him out of competition for 6+ months but I don't get why this fight has been put off so long.

I haven't checked out Serra much as far as how he is as a person, but in all the bits I have seen he's talking shit and acting like a dick. This is a shining example. As I said in my post, he doesn't "act like a dick" all the time. He acts just like any coach I've seen in any sport. It's called "being male." Yeah the Matts hate each other, but it is NOWHERE near what is shown on TV. They shit talk like anyone else, but the scences on the show were put there to make it look a certain way.
Trust me- I do photography and video. The idea is you manipulate what people see.
