What i like 50 for is how he answers Questions so Quick and Elaborate. Nothing Hidden. Most Rappers will start off smiling: meaning they can't answer properly and some Rappers just start off saying.. I have, and I would recommend it. It's easy to read, which is a plus, harder to implement, but then real growth is always hard. Certainly good on it's own and as an introduction to the wider self help genre, though I do think it stretched 50s similarity to historical figures a little far. I'd also recommend 7 habits of highly effective people by Stephen Covey (which I personally found VERY hard to get through, though everything in it rings true).
One book I WOULD avoid is How to Think Big & Kick Ass by Donald Trump; reads like it was written by a 5year old, and extremely reductivist in its outlook.
Also, whatever you read, think back to whatever you've read before, how it agrees & disagrees with what you've read before, and how you understand it and how it affects different parts of your life. I find that increases my understanding, and how I can apply it and change my behaviour.
@TheKlink A reading I would recommend is The Prince by Niccolo Machiavelli. I believe Greene touched on it a little when he said something about Machiavellian business in the Hip-Hop. It was a book written in the around the 1400's in which Niccolo Machiavelli describes exactly what prince' need to do in order to obtain and gain power. These lessons can be applied to all aspects of life and there's no slick back sleezy fuckin Donald Trump trying to tell you how to borrow your daddies money.

After he got shot he "switched the style up" because the masses want simple melody. But rap did change ALOT from when he first came out in 98' and after 03' when he became world famous. He saw the change and rolled with it. Before rap he was a hustler. And what is a hustler? A great business man.

I have, and I would recommend it. It's easy to read, which is a plus, harder to implement, but then real growth is always hard. Certainly good on it's own and as an introduction to the wider self help genre, though I do think it stretched 50s similarity to historical figures a little far. I'd also recommend 7 habits of highly effective people by Stephen Covey (which I personally found VERY hard to get through, though everything in it rings true).

One book I WOULD avoid is How to Think Big & Kick Ass by Donald Trump; reads like it was written by a 5year old, and extremely reductivist in its outlook.
Also, whatever you read, think back to whatever you've read before, how it agrees & disagrees with what you've read before, and how you understand it and how it affects different parts of your life. I find that increases my understanding, and how I can apply it and change my behaviour.

@TheKlink A reading I would recommend is The Prince by Niccolo Machiavelli. I believe Greene touched on it a little when he said something about Machiavellian business in the Hip-Hop. It was a book written in the around the 1400's in which Niccolo Machiavelli describes exactly what prince' need to do in order to obtain and gain power. These lessons can be applied to all aspects of life and there's no slick back sleezy fuckin Donald Trump trying to tell you how to borrow your daddies money.
