This is the Canada Day 2007 demo, a small squad of Lance Cpl's and Cpl's and a few old boy's (Colour Sgt Thwaites calling the firing patterns). All the drill is authentic to 1869, the time period we represent at the Halifax Citadel. All members of the 78th Highlanders are university students and highschool students, and are held to the standards of the British military of the time period. The 78th Highlanders were from Ross-Shire Scotland and were stationed in Halifax 1869-1871.
there are no lance corporals in the canadian army it goes private recruit, private trained corporal, master corporal, sergeant, warrant officer, master warrant officer and the chief warrant officer for the ncms and ncos
You're correct on the Canadian Forces ranks, but as this is a historic regiment with no affiliation to the Canadian Forces, we follow the rank structure used by the British Army during the 1860's and 1870's. Hope you get the opportunity to visit our site and experience our living history program!
I remember this, this is the only time that the whole group was made up of non-privates... you can tell by the badges on their arms, I work at the citadel and this must have been during the changing of the guard celebration because the crowd is HUGE.
im gonna take a guess that those are 303s cause a squad of them is the only rifle i know that is lowder than 2 cannons. and those sound loud
