@brgypulo RPN-9 is a specifically ENGLISH NEWS PROGRAM. Ang sabihan mo ay ang mga may-ari ng RPN-9. FYI, noong nasa Pilipinas ako, co-host ako ng Tagalog Socio-Political Commentary Show: Sentro ng Katotohanan. Kaya hindi problema ang pagtatagalog. Puede ko ring i-Cebuano kung kinakailangan.
We have to make even uneducated people understand this. For these are the majority of Philippine population. Parliamentary is better, as to negate our culture and balance out politicians' tendencies and have better results. But we need the support of the mass, the poor, the uneducated for this to really succeed. Educated people will find this easy to accept. If not, they're either uninformed or is part of the oligarchs in some way.
If I may add, in terms of allowing foreign media to come to the country like CNN, FOX news etc....The oligarch owners of ABS-CBN, TV5 would be force to compete..... then the Philippines will have worthy and real news not showbiz news.
Can you imagine if we finally have the Constitutional Reform and with the removal of the 60/40 restrictions...how the Philippines could move forward?
Can you also imagine if a giant company like WALMART decided to open up multiple branches in the Philippines like what they started doing in China...how much jobs it could create? It will definitely compete with SM Shoemart...the end result is good competition, better service.
Siguro kasi they don't want to repeat the mistakes when the country was under a parliamentary system under Marcos which is a different case given the circumstances (dictatorship and all). That's probably the only research they had to back up their position against constitutional reform.
i suppose the fear is too ingrained re the scenario that GMA would use the parliamentary system to become prime minister, then pull favors or bully the rest of the cabinet to keep her in perpetuity. can you address this fear? i would really like to understand this topic more. thank you! :)
@nyldek That scenario is exactly the wrong idea that stems from not understanding the "algorithm" or logic behind how a parliamentary system works. Firstly, a Prime Minister is completely reliant on the confidence that his/her own party has in his/her own ability to lead them. A Prime Minister cannot "bribe" or bully his/her own party to keep him/her in power because he/she is nothing but a "First Among Equals" who leads only at the pleasure of his/her members. If not, TANGGAL.
@nyldek Those who make up such stories are taking advantage of the fact that Filipinos are generally resistant to change or lazy to do proper RESEARCH to find out how parliamentary systems work. If Filipinos generally knew how it works, then we'd have already shifted long ago. By doing the proper research and making the effort to understand how it works, it will become very clear why a majority of US pol-sci PhD's observe that parliamentary systems are superior to presidential systems.
What we need is to raise everyones morale and sense of nationalism longer than a Pacquiao win with initial focus on the poor as their realities are very different from the middle class and the rich. These people don't have time to follow the rules. They're too busy trying to look for ways to avert hunger. The solution should be 3-fold. One for the poor, another one for the middle class and lastly, for the rich. Formulated in such a way that a common ground can be reached within all 3 classes.
When I mentioned the reset button, it is because I know that we are deeply mired in the current system. I've also lost faith in the Filipino's ability to change for the good of the multitude. In fact, it's almost an impossibility. The current system has corrupted the common man's way of thinking beyond repair. A reboot, if it's possible, is the only way change can happen.
I do understand the concept. It's the transition process I am worried about. We are Filipinos after all. Prone to coercion and easily bribed as compared to our western counterparts. What guarantees do we have that the sets of new rules and procedural dynamics will be adhered to without fear of old school politicking and spinning tainting the process.
I totally agree in CoRRECT. The people of the Philippines must be educated about this Constitutional Reform briefly, but how if the Media (especially the ABS CBN & GMA7) is controlled by wealthy & powerful Oligarchs who chooses news to conceal the facts to fool viewers nationwide? I wonder how... >:"(
@EnchanterEmoteen IKR, Local media never discussed how parliamentary system works. To them, its a system that doesnt exist. All they show are individual achievements of pinoys and championing them. pinoys with opportunities that are totally absent to a majority of the philippine population. This is the clearest indication that the oligarchs are indeed restricting the contents of mass media.
i am looking for cathy santillan and that gordon freeman glasses person. the old newswatch. cathy santillan was better looking compared to this.

If this can be achieved, we now have a strong footing for the push toward a parliamentary system.
