  • Jack never actually gave up saying he was "39", 'hwy', I MEANT to say, he never said he was older than "39". In fact, there was an idea, for one of his "SHOWER OF STARS" specials in the mid-'50s. for a "Jack Benny's 40th Birthday" celebration. He decided not to do it because, as he said, "39 is a funny number- 40 isn't".

  • "Mr. Ackerman" is a fictional counterpart of the real-life president of CBS' West Coast TV division at that time, Harry Ackerman; he later became an executive at Screen Gems/Columbia, serving as executive producer on several of their series in the '60s, including "BEWITCHED", "THE FLYING NUN", etc. (he also married Elinor Donahue).

  • There were so many facets of Jack's radio/TV personality, and he thrived on them. He was always guaranteed a laugh if the joke involved his "cheapness", his "lousy violin playing", his "age" [he stopped at declaring he was "only 39", because, as he later recalled, "it's a funny number- 40 isn't"], and assorted other character traits...

  • @fromthesidelines Many facets and all of them funny. I didn't know that he ever gave up saying he was 39! LOL

  • Especially if the "two grown men" are George Burns and Jack Benny!

  • @fromthesidelines I thought it was hilarious. Lots of jabs at Jack for his alleged cheapness which he took so well. What a duo!

  • Two grown men, trying to out smart the other is hilarious.

  • @AfsAnehAfairytale Almost makes Gracie the sane one! LOL Thanks Rita :)
