  • Would love to see Nas, Mos Def--even Jay-Z and others connect up with traditional rhythms. There should be more international collaborations--even concerts. Thanks for posting this.

  • very very beautiful....ghana must keep its own culture 4 our little ones.........

  • Africans must look towards our Motherly continent.

Apart from Ghana, majority of our African states have a lot to see and to offer.

We shouldn't be ashamed or afraid to head towards our African mother and homeland.

  • The Africans... I'm sure, God has reserved a spot to be the leaders of the rhythm section in Heaven..... I can't wait....

  • Etymology of the Name God

Oddly, the exact history of the word God is unknown. The word God is a relatively new European invention, which was never used in any of the ancient scripture manuscripts that were written in The Helios Papyrus ( in the Holy Book RA.

DON'T LET EUROPEANS DECEIVED US AGAIN

JESUS NEVER EXISTED NEITHER GOD/GODS/GODDESSES OR LORDS BS.

EUROPEANS BETTER STOP THE BS CHRISTIAN OUT OF OUR LAND. NOW. GOOOOOO

  • How could africans be losing themselves into european cultures. Africans are being deliberately manipulated. They are vulnerable. tired and poor. yet strong. Africa is the richest continent on the face of the earth. the white man would love to kill all of them, and finish taking the gold, diamond, copper, etc. from their land. this is truth. I'm black american and I married a ghanian man. He's good to the core. pure. do a video to stop africa's oppressors. thats whats needed. thats human. really

  • now they found oil there. Takoradi, accra will be like a U.S city. But whites intend to own it. Nothing has changed. do that documentary. This would be truth. Some white people are so blind and so dark. How can you destroy nations. Then become their saviors at the same time. Its wicked. Its dark. Its a global shame. but the people of ghana will survive it all. Just like the black americans. Maybe repentance could work for the hearts of whites also. try it. don't bash it. really.check yourselves

  • shame. a white person speaking of an african nation losing their culture. Then blaming it on christianity. people of poverty learn to pray. just to survive mentally and emotionally. Ghana needs help. Its beautiful. the people are beautiful. White people use ghana as a playground. all christians don't reject the drum. I have gone to churches that embrace it. sad documentary. what was your intention for this video. in many ways ghana is getting better. But white people are about to take it all.

  • Thanx Alot, This Vid Realy Helped Me With MY Hwk And This is the time i got up two so far . . . 3:47 - to remind myself incase i need to come back to this vid

  • Oh man, I miss Ghana :( I've been there for 2 months with an organisation to help kids!

It was the best time of my life =)

  • i love ghana. i go there every year. since the 12 years god put me on this earth i always used to stay up the day before i go there because on

im going to have alot more freedom and two

im going to be meeting alot more pople

plus there REALLY NICE TO YOU

  • Ghanaba

  • Eurocentrism alive and well...especially in africa. What a shame.

  • I am married to a Ghanian, and we have a daughter. I am white. i believe that everywhere, everything is changing. Cultures evolve. That is what humans do. It's important to try to find a balance between growing and tradition. Not all that is in the past is good. Not all that is to come is bad. Drum on...or not. Live and let live, and keep yourself educated. Just because somebody says something doesn't make it true.

  • I've been to Ghana many times white people live well there, and there is no Ghanaian BNP,KKK or Front National. They live privalidged lives I went to Takarodi and many of the whites there made it more than clear. That they were not happy to see diaspora Africans like me I got offered a fight a few times they are full of shit and should go back to Europe.

  • well if they are not happy to see you there then they dont deserve to live in ghana. not a lot of ghanaian know about the KKK or even about slavery. ghana is a peaceful country and we welcome people with good heart no matter what race you are. i just hope those white people learn something from that.

  • Now that I look more closely, the drummers in the very beginning of the video, around :20 are the same group I saw rehearsing in Kokrobite. I took lessons with the teacher of that group, Oko.

  • Great video. I recently took some drumming lessons in Kokrobite with a local dance troupe. Actually I think one of the dancers for the group is in this video.

  • I'd like to add. I am an American woman, 48 years of age and have been married twice to American men who did not appreciate a good woman. Now GOD has blessed me to meet my African sweetheart who lives in Ghana and we will soon be married. I would trade him for nothing in the world

  • I liked the video and I strongly agree that the African people are losing themselves with the facination of the European culture. African people are of a rich spirit and I feel the only reason they have hard times is because they don't know how blessed they are. From my study of the bible, I can see that the garden of eden was somewhere near Africa, therefore Adam and Eve were people of colour due to their geographical location.

  • i lived in ghana, in sunyani for 10 months and got back in june. I miss it so much. This video is very honestly portraying ghanaian religion and drumming. ghana aye ko!!

  • there's no way we gonna lose our culture cos we still practice even though we are not in Ghana..

  • Since the beginning of man kind African music has been influencing the music throughout the rest of the world! I've studied the music, culture, history of Africa for a few years now. I know that there are rhythms Ghanaians call there own that originated from Nigeria. I've seen how they're converted the kpanlogo drum to look more like a conga by putting iron lugs on the drums so they would be able to play them in churches.

  • Getting back to the effects of globalization on Ghanaian arts, I can only say it has been happening for centuries. African music has been influencing the rest of the music of the world since the beginning of man, it's only natural that those influences would come back to their roots. But there are still many groups in Ghana performing all areas of Ghanaian and African music throughout Ghana, Europe, and the United States.

  • The same thing that is happening to Ghana is happening to my beloved Haiti. Because of all the christian missionaries, some churhes have band the use of drums...why must Africans suffer more than any other race? Why must we sacrifice our cultures in order to be accepted? This makes me sad...

  • Musical rhythms are analogous to genes. Just as successful genes spread from their point of origin to wind up in distant places, rhythms of African music wind up in Western music, and vice versa. People must not be forced to live in static cultures, as in a museum. New cultural amalgams will be chosen by future generations because they speak to the present, both in Ghana and the rest of the world.

  • i LOVE Ghana, I love my family there, I love it x

  • Ive Been To Ghana! Is tropical! I obviously know this because i come from their

  • I dont think African Tradition will ever get lost.Even through all this cruel wars down there: The rhythms didnt die! But the more they do it, the better.

  • THis is so sad. The eurocentric idealogy continues to push there agenda thru MTV, BET, and so on. Missionaires continue to lie to Africans and telling to serve some religion that is used to enslave people. Africans traditions are the 1st religious/spiritual base. AFrikans resources are stolen everyday and missionaires use the lost of resources to tell afrikans there way of life is wrong. Converting to Christianity is the only way of serving god! What a lie!!!

  • Now I want to go to Africa

  • Is this just a short doc? This is great stuff, I'd love to see more. Definitely sad how western culture seems to always influence and water down indigenous cultures around the world.

  • As an African it is so sad to me to se Africa losing its culture, music, dance, language, and ultimately its history and perspective.Hip hop culture is killing native African culture throughout Africa.

  • As a black american of african descent I find this interesting.I am strongly connected to drums and I love to hear and play them. There needs to be more dialogue.I am proud of my african roots.

  • @Footguy365

    Footguy

Massive blessings onto you, because Africa is our real Motherland, it has so much in our wealth, culture, resources and we are all one.

When you listen to beats of our contient of Africa, then you wouldn't want to miss the life.

  • It is true, bongiwe, because once upon a time, Africans had so much in terms of our roots and realities such as our music, languages, fashion, foods etc.

But as you rightly said, when we sang and danced to our music, it didn't have these backward displays of cussing each other, killing each other and showing off because we've got these so-called fast cars, big houses and using our sisters to shake their asses upside down.

    We need to wake up!
