1. To apply zinc, some application instructions say add to the ground but foliage spraying is better because zinc in the ground competes with the same mechanisms by which the trees absorb nickel & so choke off the trees' ability to get enough nickel & then Mouse Ear growth deformation results. Iron might do the same.
2. If you spray nickel sulfate to remedy Mouse Ear, wear a hazmat suit from HomeDepot and wear a charcoal filter mask. It is really bad stuff.
