What they did or Beauty and the Beast I'm very interested in. Me and my sister are designing an animated Manga and we decided to make it on the computer but make it look as 2D as possible.
@mycollegeshirt it's funny how much I'm "learning" how much my research wasn't the best for this project, but to be honest, I didn't spend more than an hour or two making up the timeline, and I didn't crosscheck many of my sources. when putting a video like this together takes an average of an hour per minute, I kind of just wanted to get it done. After all, it was for a 100 level college class. haha.
@hockeytofu101 I definitely respect that opinion. I feel there are several landmarks that aren't covered here. This video certainly isn't comprehensive, and I just chose what I felt to be the more significant landmarks until about 1995, to just say "since then, CGI has bla bla bla."

@hockeytofu101 Not CG history, but for visual effects. Because most of the stuff they did was real and not CGI...its just the special effects were ground breaking..
@hockeytofu101 the biggest milestone regarding creating photorealistic cgi was definitely 'jurrasic park'... the way hdri was used, created absolutely believable results - not only for the early 90s. for sure this movie raised the bar much more than matrix did, eventhough matrix raised it even higher ;-)
thanks for this - it's succinct, intelligent and beautifully illustrated. it's inspired me to try and get a job with aardman animation just 3 minutes walk away - go well man.
Yeah, this video certainly isn't exhaustive. I only included what I found to be some of the more noteworthy events, or "firsts". Tron was released in 1982, before the movies you mentioned, and Terminator used stop action for the robot in the end scenes, if that's what you're referring to.

I think that what werkis2 meant was the Terminator 2 movie, with all of those computer generated T-1000 scenes.
