I'm sorry but I don't believe this took you 5 months of practice, even practicing every day .. unless you were super flexible and strong (before starting yoga) .. i'm sure it's more than 5 months no freaking way even if you do yoga 24/7
@tkherbi9a I'm not flexible at all and yes it only took my 5 months to get to this point. I am a freak. Unfortunately I am not a good example for any other pose...I'm even bad a savasana.
@sevenbravo I was similar, this was one of the first postures I really got good at. But of course, 1.5 years later into my practice, my muscle mass/flexibility are really fighting each other and some days I feel like I can't even leave the ground. It's all in good reconstruction though!
I have been doing yoga for approx 4 months, once a week, and I can now do this posture the same.
Yes I've been training Kung Fu for 5 years...but still haven't training this sort of thing before. What actually helped me get vertical was the momentum of the initial commitment.
To the practitioner in the video...Do you have your jaw/neck fully extended so that pressure is on the bottom of the jaw/neck, or were you positioned so that you were resting on the front of the jaw/mouth? I only ask as I hurt my jaw/ear-canal a few weeks ago in this Asana, because of possibly weight bearing too much on the jaw....
well if someone has thick legs and butt, they cannot lift them this high in their locust without practicing it for a long time. Yoga works differently for everyone.
I do Bikram every day, but I will never be able to do this. I think it is harder for girls as usually our hips are heavier and arms weaker. This is the most difficult pose for me.
I still say that this is one of the hardest poses. I've only been trying for two months, but I'm not improving at all.... My chiropractor says I need to keep doing yoga for my back though.... Practice does not make perfect, but sometimes it makes better. xD
I believe that your physical build certainly plays a major part. For me, it just happened one day and caught me by complete surprise. I am not very flexible at all, and that is why I can't place my feet on my head.
This is amazing. =) I have been practicing for several months now, and my instructor keeps telling me I'm ALMOST there. Sometimes she will lift my legs over so that I get the feel of it. My back flexibility is not the problem, my problem is getting that final "lift", to get my hips up from the mat. Increased upper body strength might be the clue. I have a feeling this might be easier if I was a male though, my female hips are weighing me down. what do you think?
awesome. The next step is to put your feet on your head. I'ts not as hard as you would think. The first time I did this pose I went into the fullest expression without realizing it, everybody has something they're are good at
Thanks. This was about 5 months after my first day of doing Bikram. I was going about 3-4 times per week for the first few months. Then I attempted to go 60 days consecutive and about 40 days in is when I was able to go vertical.
in time i guess. i've been practising sivananda yoga off and on for the past 9 years. i remember when i just started, about 3 weeks in, i was able to touch my feet to the back of my head in the full cobra pose. i was always too chicken to try the locust though, but i guess i have new hope from seeing this video (the video demos are really inspiring)
hey, that's great, do you know wich exercise will help the flexibility of my back. i'm quite flexible, but a i would like to have a bit more back flexibility thanks
I know. Its easy once you are vertical...it's just balancing then. The teacher always said "eventually you can get to 90 degrees", then one day it happened. Its a party trick now...
It was 79999 views before I watched this, hopefully I was the 80000!

Isn't your/his face supposed to be more "face-down"? (ie. not looking forward)?

@girlinseattle - you're meant to kiss your mat (according to the dialogue - not literally of course.)

Beautiful locust. Bikram Yoga is amazing. I have been praticing for a month now and this was the pose I disliked the most. Now I love it.

For me, Locust pose is the most difficult, but as you said, the more you practice you will see an improvment!
