If you are looking for 50-50% quality and loudness aswell bass spend your money to a midrange PA System.
I have no idea about the z-906 but it's similar to the z-5500 so it can't be dramatically different,so i'd say the s550 has better quality, the z-5500 sub goes a little lower, and loudwise they are pretty much the same.
Sorry to ask you this again, but when you said that they are pretty much the same loud, what did you mean, the whole system (with speakers on) or just the subwoofers? I would like to know if the subwoofers are loud the same, because if they are that means that the one from s550 is louder than the one from z906, I think so because i have read some forums and they say that the sub from z5500 is louder. Thank's again.
You should look real closely to find any volume differences (if any),in the same room they can both surpass each other depending on the placement, and the overall decibel boost the room gives you.
@PsycoHaze No problem, you wont go wrong, but search for the lowest price because the s550 is going at around 380 euros lately and the s730 around 300 euros, while they used to cost way less,if you can't find lower prices take a look in person at the Xoro 614 and a few monitor speakers with 8" woofers on thomann.
@anaruson They are the same good,i can say the 530D on digital is worse than connected with analog to a new midrange onboard sound card as the internal DACs they put sucks badly.
They are pretty good for music that includes guitars, drums, etc, though not perfect, they are more suitable for music like rock and roll more than metal, but i'm not sure if you can find anything better at this price, except if you buy monitor speakers.
Thanks for the comparison. I concluded the Edifier to be better - even as I only listened on Youtube - before your concluding comment. (Now I only wonder if Edifier 730 is better in some way than the Edifier 530.) I will by speakers very soon. Maybe tomorrow. ;)
@PBeF It's pretty much close quality wise, the 730 is a little bit better but i don't like the subwoofer for small rooms, and for big rooms the satellites are a little bit small, the 530 is more balanced and costs less, but it's up to you, whatever you'll get from these will leave you happy.
If i was going to pick again i would either get the 530 or a pair of monitor speakers, the second regardless what it'll be it will beat all the multimedia speakers.
@kevaughanshiu I don't remember how the ICs are spreading the power to the channels, most likely the sub has dedicated IC and the speakers have like 2-3 bridged, but if you do remove the other speakers the 2 or/and the sub will get more power.
Though don't expect to see any difference as to boost the volume by 3db average you need double the power,10-20 watts difference on those will give maximum 1-1.5db more average.
@Dezaber You can't,like it's been discussed many times in the comments, the "actual" testing is only to fill the video as i felt it would be pointless like "Good morning, this is better, good bye, have a nice day".
The video is a review so it only stands in my opinion.
@truebassB I understand but, you could try to put a bottle half filled on top of each sub, test the bass separately and see which one makes it bounces greater, that would make and idea about the bass and the difference between them, that of course if you use the same volume and song. My rec would be to put the computer volume 50% and max the systems, test them with a bottle or something and that would be the best comparison video on youtube. Most of the users search bass test, believe me.
@Dezaber It wouldn't work good either. With the sub in the center,in the corners everything will resonate, with a ported cabinet aiming at the corner it will be even worse.
But the point is to get clean uncolored frequencies with a FR as flat as possible,if you get resonance in the room that's your worst enemy.
On the other hand if this is what you like, forget these things and get an 18" PA Woofer, make a box,and get a cheap PA Amp with around 1000w bridged, total cost around 300 euros.
@truebassB I'm not really into that, I don't know how to wire a woofer with an amp and power it with my home voltage(i heard the amps are usually around 12v). Anyway, a 18" would be too much for a 7x5 room.
@Dezaber Hello. In the matter of fact only Car Amplifiers work within the 10-14v range (and you should avoid these even for in car use),the PA Amps are coming with AC Power Supply with 100-250v rate.
umm the Edifier 5.1 is hard to locate but I found some selling on UK Amazon but my question is do I need to worry about the power plug not being compatible with the U.S. outlets?
@kazekai8 Yes,the transformer will output different voltage if it has 120v input,so the amplifier will be barely operatable or fully operatable but with way less power output.
Don't get it unless you either have a 240v Line coming from your kitchen or a 120-220v transformer with at least 500w rated output.
You can get other things though like a 5.1 Home Theater system from Denon,Onkyo,or something like this, they are better.
@truebassB Much appreciated dude and I found a step up / step down transformer converter for the speaker on Amazon too so it should be fine since the watt rating is around 1000W
@kazekai8 No problem. But don't forget that if you buy it from Europe you might face import duties and get crappier price as it will go around 270 euros or 350$ without shipping costs which will be maybe over 100$.
@truebassB Much appreciated for the quick input but I found a step up/ step down transformer with a rating of 1000watt for the speaker on Amazon too so it should work hopefully
Most people here are not fair when it comes to Z-5500. Yea, it uses full-range sattelites which are made of plastic. But be fair and objective, they are good speakers. Edifier may be better, but that doesn't cancel the fact that Z-5500 are one of the best pc speaker system ever. If S550 achieves a 9/10 score, Z-5500 achieves an 8. And that midrange lack is a lie if you ask me.
Thanks for the test! Finally not a "hey listen to my subwoofer" video :p
I've been wondering what to buy for a 5.1 system, but I do want some sort of audio quality. recording stuff from speakers always produces bad quality, but I was able to hear the the endifier has a lot more body in the mid and high range sounds than the logitech.
@wpte Hallo daar vriend. Yes you are right,i just put an "audio" test just to fill the video, but even so you're right about the fact that the Edifier has stronger body. About what to get for a 5.1 system depends on your budget,if you are willing to spend more than 200 euros, the best you can do is check on places like marktplaats to find used actual Home Cinema gear, like a Denon AVR-2105 and Kef or Wharfedale speakers.
@wpte Hmm well the watts doesn't have to do anything with the room as far as you have place to fit the speakers. Any satellite system with 4"-5" woofers like Roth Oli 1 and a subwoofer will be excellent. The s550 is excellent too for what it is but for more than 250 euros doesn't really worth it. Look if you can find any Xoro 614 system. They have it on prijsvechter nl,costs around 150 euros and it's WAY WAY better in price/performance than the Edifier. For me it's the best you can get.
My budegt is a bit tight and i can only afford around GBP100. but how about poeple speaking thru their noses? did you experienced that with the Edifier system you've tried?
There aren't any people speaking through their noses as far as i have noticed, you can get this effect if you use speakers without strong midrange-midbass frequency response,or if you shut off the midbass driver and the subwoofer on the Edifiers so you can listen to tweeters only, which is pointless.
Hi i have been on a hunt recently of some pretty decent 2.1 multimedia speakers for my laptop PC.seen your video about some speakers by Edifier but wanted to ask how was the sound in general? pls tell me that it doesn't sound "hollow" or to describe it accurately people speaking through their noses. (like what low-end / low-wattage speakers do) i'm particularly interested with either E3350 or the M330SF range. pls help me and i need your advice.
@lynxman76ph I don't know of those specific systems but altough they have great reviews i would have checked out either the C2 or the S330 at this price.
For their price as a complete 2.1 system you cannot go wrong and you probably can't get anything better, you could get some studio monitor speakers though that would perform better in quality, but for multimedia purposes for example the s330 will be more suitable.
@lynxman76ph If you have heard Logitech and Creative speakers at this price you will know that the Edifier's sound is amazing,in this budget you're getting dry annoying sound and a subwoofer that puts muds in your ears,it's not different with Edifier at this price but they perform way better than speakers like z523,z520 and the such, they have a sound character similar to the bigger systems, and the midbass definitely delivers a detailed and warm sound in the midrange.Definitely a top choice
@prohacker883 Duh,no offence but what's 22+ Boost? I don't know.
An Aiwa i've had was going to +30db on the volume before it says volume max, some Denon receivers i have on my right side go to +17db before they get maxed out, guess what, the Aiwa didn't had any more power than a regular Boom Box.
Other that,no people with normal ears can hear to a boosted Amplifier which even maxed out without boost is rated @ 10% THD,the same goes to both Edifier and Logitech.
@truebassB I'm sorry to bother you mate but I too have a similar issue. How do the Edifier DA5000's perform in comparison to the Z-5500's? The Edifiers have tweeters and as I understand it the THX certification is fairly superficial.... Also, is there actually a DA5000 as a posed to a DA5000 *PRO* or are they the same? If you could PM me about then that would be great.
@Tastyicebreak It will perform better than the z-5500 specially if you consider the price that is way lower, but it will lack quite a lot compared to the s550,though at its price there isn't anything better on 5.1.
The DA5000 and PRO as far as i know they are the same.
@EnLaiten Quality doesn't really look at the how much channels the system has. Plus the Edifiers S5xx-S7xx are having the same performance, with the s530 and the s730 being a little bit more... dynamic than the s550.
I think Edifier is a great brand if they stay with this standard in the future they will have a sure success above all in many forums of my country (Italy) their items begin to be known more and more. I hope in a S750 version which will be sure a great system audio for PC. I think S550 will be my future purchase for my seond PC equipment I have assembled. Z5500 are not so good as intendeed to be if not supported by a great software, I got good performance installing UBUNTU 10.4...
@Sirrom5 Exists but for now only in theory, but even if it's get released with possible price 600+ Euros it's a piece of a bad joke for how the speakers are performing.
Ehm NO the SP2500 sounds better than the Z5500 (WHAT A SUPRISE :D ) but the Edifier has better Speakers and a way bigger Subwoofer with more Watts of Power ;)
But I like the Bandpass-Subwoofer of the Corsair :)
@GermanGamer545 the corsair's speakers are high quality and the tweeters are ferro fluid silk dome. and its bi-amped. and you think that its not better then edifier?
@L00peey Personally i would judge the speakers by their sound and not of the presence of a ferro fluid cooled tweeter,or for another Amplifier IC bolted on on the Circuit that is separately powering the drivers with 10MW of power.
No.The Speakers of the Corsair are good, but the Subwoofer hasnt as much Power as the Edifier AND the Edifier has a wirelles remote control and a optical digital input.
Anyway,I think the Corsair is worth the money, especially because the S730D costs around 100€ more than the SP2500...
@GermanGamer545 exactly. so sp2500 is better, the speakers are better but the sub might have a little bit less bass and lack the optic digital input, but its alot cheaper. i would definatly rather get the corsair over the edifer since bass isnt everything. and the wireless remote is not an issue for 90% of ppl, only the "picky" ppl will complain that its wireless over a wired.
@truebassB Oh really, i hope in this case they dont ask for it back lol but im sure they will, if not i will buy another subwoofer for the Logitech box as the Logi Subwoofer is totaly dead :D
@ali050792 I can almost guaranty they wont, just be sure to have the receipt and a camera near you, that's all they can ask in the worst cases.
In an even worse case scenario, they will ask them back, which rarely happens, but again don't worry as no one has time to check them,so they are going for recycling once they arrive.
@truebassB Yay, getting me excited lol thank you......they asked for proof of purchase from amazon which i provided just waiting for reply im guessing they close weekedns thought : ( if all goes to plan
ill have Edifier s730 x2 z-5500 and 1 inphase xtb12a xD
@ali050792 No problem, start whining that you wont pay a single cent for the shipping and nor move your foot to get to the postal office to send them back, and that you're not satisfied at all about their products and services, aswell about that they caused a HUGE inconvenience and you wont buy anything from them and advice your friends to not to.
Also tell them that you are on school or work most time so they should come get it at a special hour like 8PM or something. I hope it will work.
@predictioNcs I should do some reviews of Teufels some times, though until now i didn't had any Teufel system or a chance to test them in detail and make a review.
I can't promise anything but if i will see one i'll review it and compare it with anything i have available.
Edifier sounds a lot crispier , clearer , better + it has a great subwoofer ! Logitech only makes good enough mouses+keyboards ! Concerning speakers logitech stinks , too plastic ... for me !
I am going to buy these speakers , but I am going to use a pair of Tannoy Diamond two , two way 100watt hifi speakers for the two front speakers on it.
From where can you get the s-550's for such a small price? The only site the S-550 are sold in Estonia has them up for 443 euros and z-5500 for just 289 euros =P.
Great video! Very informative. Love your accent. (Y)
could the sound of the edifier surrounds be improved by swapping the drivers with Hi-Vi ones, or do you mean a whole other speaker to the edifiers? I am thinking of replacing the front left and right with cambridge min20, which are similar size.
Both subs are "junk", with the Edifier appearing to be more responsive than the Logitech, although the author states the opposite. The Logitech sub is lighter, for the simple reason of not employing a magnet, for shielding. This does not make the Logitech any less of a sub. All in all, the Edifier sounds more realistic, with better 'headroom'. I am somewhat surprised at the Logitech for not producing mids, which is the heart of a speaker system, not the subs.
@SuperSynoptic All frequencies under 40hz on the Edifier are pretty much non existent. The radiators do vibrate, but you cannot hear the sound. Many passive sub woofers suffers from this, and i'm itching to get my S550 to respond at those frequencies. The Z5500 on the other hand do respond at those frequencies.
@dolph123454321 One and the most important you should check except if the sub can have a frequency response down to like 10hz,is if your room can cooperate well to let those frequencies get produced,in most rooms and mid sized living rooms you wont get anything useable bellow 70hz,in fact such frequencies will cause many problems unless you professionally treat the room and fully absorb them.
On the other hand the Midrange in which the Edifier outperforms the z-5500,can be produced everywhere.
@truebassB My old (and cheap) 5.1 pioneer system (for my TV) can go down to almost 20hz and it's right next to it. I think it has an 6 or 8 inch sub traditional sub woofer, but the mids and highs are not that good. Reviewers and other users also say that you cannot hear below 40hz and custom passive sub woofer builders say so too. But are these really passive sub woofers? Passive sub woofers are not supposed to have a magnet on the drive.
Both subs are junk, the Edifier is somewhat mor responsive than the Logitech, although the author states the oppisite. The logitech sub is lighter, for the simply reason of not employing a magnet, for shielding. This does not make the Logitech any less of a sub. All in all, the Edifier sounds more realistic. I am somewhat surprise at the Logitecg for not producing mids, with any authority. In effect, the mids are the hear of a speaker system, not the subs.
Now i totally agree with you about that but i have limited room and it's not good for me. So going to get me some classic computer speakers Klipsch ultra 5.1, and the Creative S5700 7.1 Edifiers currently really expensive for me. I have the Swan M50W, M200MKII Budget Monitors just got them. With me i love variety. Are you from Italy? You sound like from the North part.
Personally i really really wish you played some better music to compare these speakers to each other. Pop, rock, metal, jazz, classical, techno, etc... I do that in my videos. Why did you get rid of these anyway and go home theater?
@Freedomisgranted Well i know i should but i was a step before i do the video and i realized i didn't had music, though on recorded audio you can only notice frequency response difference.
I got them for testing purposes and maybe to have one of them on my desk but i didn't needed them anymore.
Actually there are a lot of reasons to make a home theater system instead, one of them is that you can get a WAY better entry level system than these with similar price.
@Freedomisgranted For example,a High End AV Receiver of the last decade that once costed several thousands will go not more than 300$,it will even put new Receivers to shame, and if you match one amp like that with any used midrange 5.1 set you will be able to beat anything multimedia with only ~500$.
A new 5.1 set with AV Receiver like Denon's at around that price will still be better than these two and with much more abilities and quality, fully upgradable and with HD Audio Format decoding.
@Freedomisgranted But if you are into music only, caring about hearing music as good as it sounded in Studio, even the real 5.1 systems are not all that great as you can invest your money to two channels, though there isn't much audiophile equipment in that price range except if we talk about used one that will be the best bang for the buck compared to new.
Especially if your going the preamp/amp emotiva, etc... It's true even the cheapest soundcard has sometype of decoder but people like their shinny looking gadgets over elegance, design, and class. I just wish they had the C6 in the United States.
You have a good blog and everything your said is totally right about the Z5500's non magnet shielding which every speaker should have! Especially today more than ever we use computers and phones. But yeah it is a tough choice. Have you tried too hook up the controller pod for the Z5500 to the Edifier? Just wondering too me currently that's the only thing the Z5500 has to be a good selling point besides the internal receiver.
@Freedomisgranted Hello, thanks. The z-5500 has a custom serial port looking plug, the Edifier has a standard serial port communication interface, though even if they were interchangeable on the plugs they use completely different pinout, but heck going a little deeper in their internals it's something very easy doable.
The DACs of the units are not something important regardless if Logitech's decodes DTS-DD,as any aftermarket and 99% new integrated sound cards on computers will perform better.
@truebassB What? i dont understand. im not trying to offend you its just i had a hard time understanding you. Your comparisons were really good and your video helped me make a decision.
@UmpaLumpaStudios I hope there was no offense from me,from your typing style i thought you would be another hater who has making fun of how a random guy on Youtube talks like.
I'm sorry you couldn't understand me easily,at least ive wrote all the story of the video in the description.
What's louder the Edifier s550 or Logitech z-906 ? Which has better sound quality? And which subwoofer is louder and goes to lower freq.?

Hello truebassB,
How good are the Edifier S530D speakers for listening to mainly metal (harsh bands with alot of drum hits like Slipknot) and Pendulum?
I use onboard sound (VIA VT1708S) which has 90dB Signal to Noise ratio. Basically, the onboard sound is very good.
I plan to listen to the speakers on analog outputs, and use an equalizer.
Have you heard the S530D in action? Also, it's the same as S530, except it has an optical input.

I've been wondering what to buy for a 5.1 system, but I do want some sort of audio quality. recording stuff from speakers always produces bad quality, but I was able to hear the the endifier has a lot more body in the mid and high range sounds than the logitech.
wpte 2 months ago
@wpte Hallo daar vriend. Yes you are right,i just put an "audio" test just to fill the video, but even so you're right about the fact that the Edifier has stronger body. About what to get for a 5.1 system depends on your budget,if you are willing to spend more than 200 euros, the best you can do is check on places like marktplaats to find used actual Home Cinema gear, like a Denon AVR-2105 and Kef or Wharfedale speakers.
truebassB 2 months ago
@truebassB hmmm... it will be just for movies and games. Also the room is not that big, so I don't need a lot of watts :p
I guess I'll go for the edifier s550, yet it's 325 euro atm :(
For my music I have nice beyer dynamic over-ear headphones ;-)
wpte 2 months ago
@wpte Hmm well the watts doesn't have to do anything with the room as far as you have place to fit the speakers. Any satellite system with 4"-5" woofers like Roth Oli 1 and a subwoofer will be excellent. The s550 is excellent too for what it is but for more than 250 euros doesn't really worth it. Look if you can find any Xoro 614 system. They have it on prijsvechter nl,costs around 150 euros and it's WAY WAY better in price/performance than the Edifier. For me it's the best you can get.

How would you say that a speakers sounds really clear?is there a "guide" on what frequency range it should do or cover?
lynxman76ph 3 months ago
My budegt is a bit tight and i can only afford around GBP100. but how about poeple speaking thru their noses? did you experienced that with the Edifier system you've tried?
lynxman76ph 3 months ago
@lynxman76ph The s330 must be into your budget.
There aren't any people speaking through their noses as far as i have noticed, you can get this effect if you use speakers without strong midrange-midbass frequency response,or if you shut off the midbass driver and the subwoofer on the Edifiers so you can listen to tweeters only, which is pointless.
truebassB 3 months ago
Hi i have been on a hunt recently of some pretty decent 2.1 multimedia speakers for my laptop PC.seen your video about some speakers by Edifier but wanted to ask how was the sound in general? pls tell me that it doesn't sound "hollow" or to describe it accurately people speaking through their noses. (like what low-end / low-wattage speakers do) i'm particularly interested with either E3350 or the M330SF range. pls help me and i need your advice.
Thanks.
lynxman76ph 3 months ago
@lynxman76ph I don't know of those specific systems but altough they have great reviews i would have checked out either the C2 or the S330 at this price.
For their price as a complete 2.1 system you cannot go wrong and you probably can't get anything better, you could get some studio monitor speakers though that would perform better in quality, but for multimedia purposes for example the s330 will be more suitable.
truebassB 3 months ago
@lynxman76ph If you have heard Logitech and Creative speakers at this price you will know that the Edifier's sound is amazing,in this budget you're getting dry annoying sound and a subwoofer that puts muds in your ears,it's not different with Edifier at this price but they perform way better than speakers like z523,z520 and the such, they have a sound character similar to the bigger systems, and the midbass definitely delivers a detailed and warm sound in the midrange.Definitely a top choice

z5500 has a 22+ boost edifier can now suck cock
prohacker883 3 months ago
@prohacker883 Duh,no offence but what's 22+ Boost? I don't know.
If you want high volume stick to PA.

Edifier S330D = Very great bargain @ a very good price.
Edifier S550D Better Bargain than S330D
Conclusion : Edfier S550D = Pretty much a very nice audio system and simply worth the money
Ocramikov 3 months ago
@truebassB I'm sorry to bother you mate but I too have a similar issue. How do the Edifier DA5000's perform in comparison to the Z-5500's? The Edifiers have tweeters and as I understand it the THX certification is fairly superficial.... Also, is there actually a DA5000 as a posed to a DA5000 *PRO* or are they the same? If you could PM me about then that would be great.
Tastyicebreak 3 months ago
@Tastyicebreak It will perform better than the z-5500 specially if you consider the price that is way lower, but it will lack quite a lot compared to the s550,though at its price there isn't anything better on 5.1.
The DA5000 and PRO as far as i know they are the same.
truebassB 3 months ago
I see. By the way, what do you think of the little brother, the edifier S330D?
My girlfriends soundsystem, an old Logitech Z3 crashed a few days ago, now she needs a new one. What do you think, is it a good alternative?
EnLaiten 3 months ago
@EnLaiten It's a really good system for its price,i think she's gonna love it,though it lacks too much compared to other systems of the S Series.

Muaddib26 3 months ago
On the technical side the Edifier is better, but to compare a 2.1 with a 5.1 system? I don't know...
EnLaiten 3 months ago
@EnLaiten Quality doesn't really look at the how much channels the system has. Plus the Edifiers S5xx-S7xx are having the same performance, with the s530 and the s730 being a little bit more... dynamic than the s550.

an4bioz 4 months ago
I think Edifier is a great brand if they stay with this standard in the future they will have a sure success above all in many forums of my country (Italy) their items begin to be known more and more. I hope in a S750 version which will be sure a great system audio for PC. I think S550 will be my future purchase for my seond PC equipment I have assembled. Z5500 are not so good as intendeed to be if not supported by a great software, I got good performance installing UBUNTU 10.4...

oh and ps. the corsair sp2500 blows both of these clean away 20 times over.
L00peey 4 months ago
@L00peey
Ehm NO the SP2500 sounds better than the Z5500 (WHAT A SUPRISE :D ) but the Edifier has better Speakers and a way bigger Subwoofer with more Watts of Power ;)
But I like the Bandpass-Subwoofer of the Corsair :)
GermanGamer545 4 months ago
@GermanGamer545 the corsair's speakers are high quality and the tweeters are ferro fluid silk dome. and its bi-amped. and you think that its not better then edifier?
L00peey 4 months ago
@L00peey Personally i would judge the speakers by their sound and not of the presence of a ferro fluid cooled tweeter,or for another Amplifier IC bolted on on the Circuit that is separately powering the drivers with 10MW of power.
truebassB 4 months ago
@L00peey
GermanGamer545 4 months ago
@GermanGamer545 exactly. so sp2500 is better, the speakers are better but the sub might have a little bit less bass and lack the optic digital input, but its alot cheaper. i would definatly rather get the corsair over the edifer since bass isnt everything. and the wireless remote is not an issue for 90% of ppl, only the "picky" ppl will complain that its wireless over a wired.
L00peey 4 months ago
@L00peey Better rather get a pair of Studio Monitors instead of all these.

SuperSynoptic 6 months ago
@SuperSynoptic All frequencies under 40hz on the Edifier are pretty much non existent. The radiators do vibrate, but you cannot hear the sound. Many passive sub woofers suffers from this, and i'm itching to get my S550 to respond at those frequencies. The Z5500 on the other hand do respond at those frequencies.
dolph123454321 6 months ago
@dolph123454321 One and the most important you should check except if the sub can have a frequency response down to like 10hz,is if your room can cooperate well to let those frequencies get produced,in most rooms and mid sized living rooms you wont get anything useable bellow 70hz,in fact such frequencies will cause many problems unless you professionally treat the room and fully absorb them.
On the other hand the Midrange in which the Edifier outperforms the z-5500,can be produced everywhere.
truebassB 6 months ago
@truebassB My old (and cheap) 5.1 pioneer system (for my TV) can go down to almost 20hz and it's right next to it. I think it has an 6 or 8 inch sub traditional sub woofer, but the mids and highs are not that good. Reviewers and other users also say that you cannot hear below 40hz and custom passive sub woofer builders say so too. But are these really passive sub woofers? Passive sub woofers are not supposed to have a magnet on the drive.
dolph123454321 6 months ago
@dolph123454321 There's a normal basket and cone on each one but there's no magnet.
truebassB 6 months ago
Both subs are junk, the Edifier is somewhat mor responsive than the Logitech, although the author states the oppisite. The logitech sub is lighter, for the simply reason of not employing a magnet, for shielding. This does not make the Logitech any less of a sub. All in all, the Edifier sounds more realistic. I am somewhat surprise at the Logitecg for not producing mids, with any authority. In effect, the mids are the hear of a speaker system, not the subs.
SuperSynoptic 6 months ago
Now i totally agree with you about that but i have limited room and it's not good for me. So going to get me some classic computer speakers Klipsch ultra 5.1, and the Creative S5700 7.1 Edifiers currently really expensive for me. I have the Swan M50W, M200MKII Budget Monitors just got them. With me i love variety. Are you from Italy? You sound like from the North part.
Freedomisgranted 6 months ago
Personally i really really wish you played some better music to compare these speakers to each other. Pop, rock, metal, jazz, classical, techno, etc... I do that in my videos. Why did you get rid of these anyway and go home theater?
Freedomisgranted 6 months ago
@Freedomisgranted Well i know i should but i was a step before i do the video and i realized i didn't had music, though on recorded audio you can only notice frequency response difference.
I got them for testing purposes and maybe to have one of them on my desk but i didn't needed them anymore.
Actually there are a lot of reasons to make a home theater system instead, one of them is that you can get a WAY better entry level system than these with similar price.
truebassB 6 months ago
@Freedomisgranted For example,a High End AV Receiver of the last decade that once costed several thousands will go not more than 300$,it will even put new Receivers to shame, and if you match one amp like that with any used midrange 5.1 set you will be able to beat anything multimedia with only ~500$.
A new 5.1 set with AV Receiver like Denon's at around that price will still be better than these two and with much more abilities and quality, fully upgradable and with HD Audio Format decoding.
truebassB 6 months ago
@Freedomisgranted But if you are into music only, caring about hearing music as good as it sounded in Studio, even the real 5.1 systems are not all that great as you can invest your money to two channels, though there isn't much audiophile equipment in that price range except if we talk about used one that will be the best bang for the buck compared to new.
truebassB 6 months ago
Especially if your going the preamp/amp emotiva, etc... It's true even the cheapest soundcard has sometype of decoder but people like their shinny looking gadgets over elegance, design, and class. I just wish they had the C6 in the United States.

pilus87 6 months ago
You have a good blog and everything your said is totally right about the Z5500's non magnet shielding which every speaker should have! Especially today more than ever we use computers and phones. But yeah it is a tough choice. Have you tried too hook up the controller pod for the Z5500 to the Edifier? Just wondering too me currently that's the only thing the Z5500 has to be a good selling point besides the internal receiver.
Freedomisgranted 7 months ago
@Freedomisgranted Hello, thanks. The z-5500 has a custom serial port looking plug, the Edifier has a standard serial port communication interface, though even if they were interchangeable on the plugs they use completely different pinout, but heck going a little deeper in their internals it's something very easy doable.
The DACs of the units are not something important regardless if Logitech's decodes DTS-DD,as any aftermarket and 99% new integrated sound cards on computers will perform better.

@truebassB I think that the Z-5500 is great.
But they should add a tweeter and place the inputs and decoder in the subwoofer, not in the control pod, it overheats the control pod.
The subwoofer is great, but needs magnetic protection.
