I use to watch this movie as a kid it was one o fmy favorites now, as an Adult I'm realizing there's a lot of pot references. In Part 2 the girl goes, "Remember the Time you were so drunk that you ate a stash of hash thinking it was a chunky bar?" And now insert the Surfer Hippie Dude who seems to be on pot? LOL this was a movie they use to market to kids?! Wow amazing what you could get away with in the 80s!
So that how the muncihes get vicious and dangerous. The trailer I saw several months ago it said someth like they won't hurt what not mean to them our something. Basically if you r agress mean or hurt them to much they go through a transformation like the gremlins the become ulgier scare, more vecious violent made slitly stronger. Why's it called munchies so far aro

That wou;ld have been a more creative less common way to resolve it. They did use acid in Python to kill the original snake. But the footage for the second Python left that part of the flash back out probably to save money because it' was going to be a tv release only original. They did eventually convert it to dvd but that was 3 day to 6 years after it original aired more or less.
