My favorite BOC album.Totally restored my faith in a band that I had followed since '74.Saw the tour with Sabbath in the fall of '80.Third row at the Hartford Civic Center.Turned out to be a KBFH show.I can hear myself in the crowd !
ahhhh,,,bloom and dharma,,,,monsters...in the night...in black and white...out of control...when you're alone...feeding on themselves...on the rails to hellllll
Would like to hear another Cult Classic album from the band, Updating the Dated 80s sounds yes they are still timeless classics, But Blue Oyster Cult could really rock these awesome songs like the Classic 70s albums, This is my 2nd Favourite album my 1st is Cult Classic from 94, im 23 it was the first album i ever owned when i was 6 still have, Love this band so much.
Someone should organize a day that we all request some of BÖC's more obscure songs on the radio and try to get them some of the recognition they deserve... Or would that just ruin them by making them too mainstream? No, I think we should keep these guys to ourselves.
these guys RULE. I saw them in concert about 6 times during the 70s and 80s. i remember that huge godzilla head they had on the stage behind the drums. His eyes glowed and smoke came out of his mouth kinda like the Bronze Angus statue...man that was cool....Buck Dharma picks the heck out of a guitar...i love Eric Bloom's voice too...awesome band...saw Foghat warm up for them once...those were the days when music WAS music
Totally unexpected sax solos, proof of creative genius and noncommercial independence. I played the crap out of this cassette back in '80 or so. So good to hear it again. Thanks! (thanks Sony too for not blocking)
@jcondon11 Ya I agree that you are bang on...I remember getting this when I was 14 years old back in 82 ish and I was blown away at the difference betwwen the creativity of this band and the crap we were being spoon fed on the radio..I wondered to myself back then why Dont fear the Reaper was the only tune that was being payed on the radio..when songs like this were just being left to be forgotton. I played this album a million times and still enjoy it as a guilty pleasure from time to time....
BOC and other groups out of the 60s and 70s actually performed music which took skill, not just electronic reproduction like 90% of the crap passing for music nowadays!
I love the bass on this. I think the guitar solo could have been a little louder, so you can hear it over the background "monsters".
I do agree that mainstream music is the worst form of entertainment. Anyone can sing the word "baby" over and over again, but it's more difficult to make up a story. In my opinion, the reason music is rubbish nowadays is because it's not about what you play, it's what you look like, and how big a commercial success the record label thinks you're going to be.
@Bojoe777NaBl Whatever! 3,234 are totally mine, 1 is for a dumb Justin Beiber fan, 34 for the genius', and the rest is for other people... Oh wait, that leaves 1,000 for you. Well, all right.
I don't need drugs to love this shit, I love every BOC song, they are bloody amazing, and the album cover for this is great too. for me they are among a handful of bands/artists/composers who I think have come the closest to musical perfection, most of their songs do make me so happy and upitty, very little else can compare, especially modern crap................ I'm not religious but this band is God
Si, all the masses like now are crying little pussies screaming into a microphone about how non conforming they are, even though they are like the rest of the cry babies. Any one who doesn't like this. Byte my 8-bit ass, after the 80s music started going to hell.
Hell yeah. No one really gets the music made 2 decades or 3 ago except for those who aren't so close-minded and immersed in the bullshit mainstream media music/entertainment products of today. Music like this could be thought of as being corny, or cheesy but at least it has skill and wit unlike 90% of the stuff coming out today
yeah... BOC could take solos, riffs, lyrics, bass, hooks and drum rides and make them all fit... this song, specifically, is very progressive and therefore has a lot of variety... i guess people get turned off by that...
@Drizzlerman You're right. When I listen to BOC and such, I don't listen to just the lyrics. I listen to the story. BOC wasn't too crazy, they were too intelligent. The zombies that make of the music market now are too thick to see both sides of a song: the Sounds and the Meaning. Rap, for instance, treats women like sex objects most of the time, but people don't see that. Hell, the songs that womanize the most have huge female fan bases. It's rediculous. But I digress, back to the awesome!
As a jazz fan, this song has double appeal to me. I was shocked when I first heard it in 1980. It is unique. It is yet another tune that puts distance between Cult and the most of the rest of the rock and roll pack.
