The climate change deniers sound exactly like the people in the 80's who refused to accept that cigarettes are bad for you. Both views are bankrolled by large corporations who don't want their bottom lines affect.
@lowaces They rely on funding for research, and if global warming as seen as a problem then they will get research dollars.
You should trust an oil company that says they have done significant research that there is no Man Made Global Warming!
The scientist reporting has a conflict of interest! We are still going to buy oil if you trust the scientist reporting their is. If you don't thinks so, look at David Suzuki's frequent Business Class flights, limos rides and vacations to Hawaii! :)
@byronintegrated i'm what THEY would call a denier because i don't belive in global warming, its either natural, or its something we don't understand cuz we're not looking in the right direction, cuz remember these governments and politicains are so evil and corrupt they think marijuana should be illegal, you got faith in those dirtbags ???
@lowaces Sooner rather than later Marijuana should be legalize here in Canada. Just think of the tourism we get, were already getting some money from gay marriage. I think Global Warming is a big distraction, like many other government protocols keep our eyes off what really matters like our economy. The entire Financial Crisis basically can be blame on the Government not looking out for the people. They love to invade every other part of our lives but somehow overlook that
@byronintegrated i think global warming might be some sort of mind control thing, probably sponsored by the CIA, if they really wanted to get rid of global warming they would ban the use of fossil fuels and ban livestock production, but that aint gonna happen so therefore global warming must not be a REAL problem,
But i did hear all the airplanes up in the sky spewing out thier whatevers really aint a good thing, but are they gonna ban air travel ??
Considering the complete LACK of compliance with the accord dating ALL the way back to when Jean Chretien first signed the stupid thing in 1993 with a LIBERAL majority in both the House of Commons AND the Senate, backing out is merely acknowledging what's been Canada's ACTUAL practice from day one. Blaming this on the Conservatives, is quite frankly, a cheap shot.
I think it is time to stop ranting on the government - that is the easy copout. Maybe first check what kind of a gas guzzler you drive? Do you recycle? Do you leave lights on unnecessarily? what about all the plastic packaging we buy? Long showers? Vacation trips to warmer climates take a lot of fuel. How much energy does it take to keep Google up and running? I say, stop all the talking and start making a personal difference in this world.
@furlakes Actually a lot of us do all of these things, but that's not what's going to make a difference. Are you that naive? Residential consumers may make up some portion of the emissions, but until the market reflects environmental costs as well, industrial companies will keep pumping more than half the emissions out in order to market their cheap, mostly useless goods made at a cheap electricity rate. Energy is too cheap; too many people don't value the environmental cost of it.
One large step we could take would be by electrification of Canada's railway system. We could use surplus clean hydro-electrical power from BC, Manitoba, and Quebec to supply the rail network. Electrification of the rail system would create a lot of jobs too. Railways are under federal government jurisdiction, so how about it Mr Harper? Do you have the balls to do this?
It's time to stop blaming other countries for not reducing GHG emissions. We can't control what they do but we can control what we do. I say we take real big steps to meet our targets even if we are no longer part of Kyoto.
Kyoto was little to do with protecting the environment and more to do with making crooked companies like Enron richer....
Of course, Rick was the government-hired spokesman for their 'one tonne challenge' TV ads, so I can understand this. Normally he tears strips of scams, whether left wing or right wing....

climate change is not at all canada's fault. i think most of the world pollutes a lot more. So saving billions of dollars for something were not really sure helps is actually smart.
Funny, but as much as we want to blame Harper, this is a provincial problem, and Alberta, mainly. They had no interest in toning it down since that meant they couldn't produce thousands of barrels of oil from their sands, at a high cost to the environment and the public coffers. It's easy to hate Harper, it's harder to find the reason for things.
@mikash33 Alberta spends more per capita on environmental protection than anyone else. Most greenhouse gas emmisisons come from households and cars... who's got more of those? Who makes cars? What fuel do cars use? Why is central Canada unwilling to close down all the car manufacturing facilities? Why are central canadian unwilling to shut off their furnances, hot water heaters, and air conditioners? Oilsands production is a small fraction of Canada's GHG production.
