  • the very games they complain about being too adult for MA 15 rating and for teens will be R or RC

  • an R rating will change very little. they will still be banning games. u bet ya asses.

just cause we ctach up to other countries and have an R for games or an 18 or A for games . make no mistake they will be strict as they are now.

  • so many fuckin games rated M, for what?

meek lil weak games reated M or PG. should all be G, the PG ones and g8 the M ones

  • u know what will happen. MA 15 games will be upgraded to R18 and RC will remain RC

  • when will the election biggen and one of my friend send me a link 2 website sayin we will have a R18 rating ones i think all of sutralia or america as well makes 15+ into R18 so PG M R18

  • just so you know the game that he has that you can't see is red dead redemption undead nightmare

  • "....All good? Thanks very much.

Now if you would excuse me, I'm going to purchase these games. Wow, Killzone 3 in 3D?! WOOOO HOOOOOO!!!!!"

That would've been so epic if Mr. O'Connor ended his speech like that.

  • anyone who dislikes this is a christian fagget cunt wo prevented my mortal kombat coming into australia

  • @Spear100Head imma dislike just cause =D

  • Pity it never hit the news stations. Including ABC News or ABC 24. :(

  • Nope i don't like it. first this is going to piss me off because I'm not 18. Second this is a very stupid idea. The majority of people that play ps3, x box 360 and PC are minors any way and that's were all the money comes from. There is a very small percentage of adult gamers compared to lets say 17 and lower so this is a good way to lose money for those companies. How come everyone likes this??? and please don't turn on me and say I'm an idiot child who doesn't know how the world works...

  • @MrBrisbaneman1994 this is a good thing because it allows games to be sold in Australia that would otherwise have been "Refused Classification" or would have been censored. Take for example, Left4Dead 2 which was completely ruined in its Australian release by censorship or the latest Mortal Kombat entry. Yes the new scheme will result in more games that are currently classified as MA15 to be pushed up into R ratings, but that is a minor cost. FYI adult gamers outnumber young gamers.

  • @MrQuade Okay yeah your first point makes a a good point and the thing about left for dead. What games will we get if things are pushed to R18 though? And I really would have thought there would be way more adolescent gamers as well. Well on xbox live you'll agree with me but on wow it would be filled with adults

  • @MrBrisbaneman1994 not every decent game being released will be R18+, obviously the MA15+ classification will still be there, it's just games like GTA IV wont ship to australia censored and have a MA15+ sticker slapped on now.

  • @sieyk The PC version of GTA IV which is uncensored is MA15+ here.

  • @sieyk yeah that's true

  • hm needs more R18+ rating :P

  • This guy is a fucking champion. 10/10

  • @AVPMARINE I'm not 18, I'm just off 17 so this does not benefit me. I shouldn't worry though because this probably won't come in to action till about 2013 or 2014 though

  • @MrBrisbaneman1994 well dude i hope it does not affect you and i wish the best for all Australian gamers like yourself and hope that you do not have to put up with childish and rediculous decisions that our government makes.. all in good time my friend!

  • @AVPMARINE Yeah thanks man. MrQuade made a good point as well about the benefits of this change so It should be good in the long run

  • @MrBrisbaneman1994 actually he's planning on pushing it forward to the july meeting this year and it will be passed which i think is a good thing because alot of games out there classified as ma15+ are classified to r18 like their overseas counterparts. I will be glad when they bring in the r18+ because all the 17 year olds bitching that it will affect them you got parents if they think the game is suitable for you they can buy it for you.

  • @sholva81 Ooooohhh burn you just owned me. It was a statement I'm not bitching

  • Brendan O'Connor for PM!

  • If there's any government official watching this, just look at the fact that there are NO dislikes for this video

  • guess we wait till july....

  • LOVE THIS MAN THANKS GOD any one know when they will re vote

  • Also, The Fact That He Held Those Games Like Playing Cards For 6 Minutes Is A Pretty Dam Good Effort

  • Thank The Good Dude For This Man

  • I kept getting distracted by one that asshole that just HAD to play whatever driving game that was and two Portal 2/Ocarina of Time on the screen above.

That said, awesome work Brendan O'Connor!

  • nice to see someone in politics who has a brain.

  • WOOOOHOOO KILLZONE 3!

  • and that's why I voted him for the seat of Gorton.

  • @thaShowstoppav2 when will they tell who got it

  • This means nothing but gamers under 18 will have to wait for shipping, stupid

  • 1:20 Bitch, don't smile at the camera >:(

  • @coldfyre18 my exact response!

  • This means nothing if games that are already RC'd aren't even given a chance to be resubmitted for classification (if it succeeds)

    au.gamespot.com/news/6305149.html

  • @AquaRing not unless the game makers "revoke" the classification to r18 in the future

  • 1:04 Gillard government! I heard Gillard government! FUCK YEAH! I knew I voted for her for a reason! Fuck Tony Abbott right up his budgi smugglers!

  • oow, Portal 2 in the bacground

  • the average gamers are of the age 25-35, so I ask you why would we not, and besides under 18 people are going to get the games even with the restrictions

also the point of videogames is to do stuff you can't in real life, you don't play GTA and then want to go kill prostatutes or drive crazily, you play it because thats something you can't do in real life, or assassins creed because you can't assassinate someone IRL or any shooting game because that sort of thing doesn't happen (even in wars)

  • Brendan O'Connor has just made more sense in 6 mins than I have seen in any other politician in my life time. Thank you for actually taking the initiative to discuss this matter with the other Attorney Generals and I really hope this gets resolved in July.

Thank you Brendan O'Connor you have just won a HUGE amount of fans

  • I am against this, i am 15 years old i have been playing Gears of War, Dead Space, Halo(i know not very violent) and Call of Duty since they all came out, so yes i have been playing video games since i was about 5 years old and my personal opinion is that games do not affect me in any way or made me violent (I just enjoy playing them and this rating might stop that) I think that there shouldn't be a R18 rating and that the MA15 rating should be more enforced on the younger generation.

  • @IrritatedGamers But the point of a R rating is so Australia can legally release games deemed higher than MA15+, and I agree with you that the violence in video games aren't that bad...

  • @badboy09480 I get that but why? if we enforce the MA15 what would be the difference?

  • @IrritatedGamers well, it would make a clear difference in an "adult games" and games suitable for 16-18s, If you just expand the definition of "MA15+" then people will be confused, making a R rating means people will more fully understand the definition of an adults only game.

  • @badboy09480 Yes, but why should there be an "adults only" catergory?

  • @IrritatedGamers some games have a different level of adults only content but I don't think many video games should be classed R18.

  • @badboy09480 Ok. On that i agree with you.

  • @hardstyle321 Yes, of course. But, how do the ratings affect YOU? You can still buy the games now. What is your purpose of R18 games? How would it benefit you?

  • @IrritatedGamers - I would get the games I want.. ie Mortal Kombat which is currently being released in every other gaming country in the world besides Australia. If this system is not fixed then more and more games will be banned.

  • @hardstyle321 Ok. Or the restrictions could be loosened so that they can be released in Australia but with a MA15 rating as anybody over that age is mature enough to handle that type of game and that is one of the things that the government does not seem to understand.

  • Wait, a politician who has an informed and non-biased opinion on this matter? *rubs eyes* I'm not dreaming!?

  • yay for ausfailia

  • Brendon O' Connor, logically explaining why we need this. If the AG department does not listen to this argument, then they should be overridden.

  • wait so did this mean il get asked for i.d when i buy r18 games? this better not pass be4 duke nukem comes out

  • @NintendoJunky yeah, but it stops like 15 and 16 year olds buying games that should be for over 18's in store with out their parent being their to give aproval, also it means that we can get games into australia that couldn't fit into the MA15+ catagoery, which means MORTAL KOMBAT :D

  • I respect this guy. It took long enough for someone to see the other side of the coin.

  • After the R18+ succeeds .. WB should make a new edition of Mortal Kombat "Australian Edition" .. where the exclusive character is Brendan 'O' Connor.

  • @DarkTenka the fatality would involve the ACL in a way.

  • @DarkTenka another evil charater would also be micheal atkinson.

  • @DarkTenka...don't forget Michael Atkinson as well.

  • @DarkTenka...and by Michael Atkinson, make him an evil character whose ending would be that he censors everything everywhere and becomes even more evil than Shao Kahn due to him and the ACL treating everyone like children/slaves.

  • The hero Australia deserves.

  • @Tonydeadlifts And the hero we need.

  • I like to think that Mr O'Connor bought those games when he finished speaking. You're a hero to all Australian gamers sir.

  • did you see that fat chik thats like ill stand right here in the may

  • this dude deserves a beer

  • @xZerko

I'm sorry, but he's not allowed, even though beer is ok for adults, it is not suitable for children, and therefore, no one should be allowed to have beer.

  • @JohnGorry

    That unfortunately makes perfect sense...

  • This dude plays a lot of Xbogz

  • Thank you for arranging this kind of direct attention this issue needs. Great stuff if only a little brief.

It's good to see this being addressed, at least in this conference, and they stress this isn't a labor or liberal issue, as this affects everyone. Our current laws makes our approach to the gaming industry look naive to the rest of the world.

Also good to hear him remind all that introducing an R18+ rating wouldn't automatically mean ALL games would be allowed classification.

  • This is good to see.

  • hail to the duke in the background. Finally some action on this bulshit

  • It's great to know when you have a politician who can take a step back, examine both the "For" and "Against" of whether Australia should have an R18+ classification.

This classification isn't just for the freedom of Adults in this country, but it's needed to provide information to the uninformed, which are the parents who buy the games for minors. A game with an MA15+ tag, or a game with an R18+ tag? Parents will think twice for sure.

The main advantages: Knowledge and Freedom. We need this!

  • Comment removed

  • i dont know if people care about 'likes', but i think its appropriate to click it if you want a R18 rating

  • Response from the ACL, covering their ears "LA LA LA CANT HEAR CANT HEAR LA LA LA"

  • Thanks Mr Brendan O'Connor for supporting us gamers, we appreciate it :)
