Phillip Rivers must not have been a highly rated QB coming out of high school. Usually all the talented QBs in the south are picked up by some SEC school like LSU, Auburn, Bama, etc. pretty quickly.

Philip Rivers practically WAS our (NC State's) offensive coordinator during his tenure at NCSU. During that time, our offensive stats were pretty freakin' awesome....though, unfortunately, we didn't have a strong defense to back them up.
