  • Christian Laettner was the man! Until he was bitched around by the Dream Team

  • duke bandwagonerssssssss

  • Far and away the best game I ever did see. Like two pro teams on fire! I wonder if you can buy the entire game and watch it anywhere.

  • I'll admit I'm a Duke Hater. Even though I wanted Kentucky to win this game, after the shot I was in a strange way happy at the result. Just because you knew at the time what a classic this was. For me (my NCAA viewing began in the early 80's) the 2 top games ever were this one and the 83' Final with NC State.

  • 5 were kentucky fanatics

  • @dweinberg345 now it is 6

  • This was a game in which it was a shame that someone had to lose. Both Duke and Kentucky played like winners! Either one of them could have won. Kentucky may very well have won the National Championship if they had won this game and moved on. It probably still is the greatest College Basketball game of all time! It is most remembered for Laettner's shot, but the entire game was great from start to finish.

  • UK fans = whiny bitchy little girls

  • lmost pure garbage. The Great White Hope Christian Laettner should've been thrown out of this game for misconduct. KY paid them back in '98. The only thing worse was the game after this one featuring FOUR of Bobby Knight's players fouling out against Coach K working over the referees. It's no wonder Coach Knight refused to acknowledge Krzyzewski's presence for the next 10 years afterwards....I can only wonder what will happen once Coach K gets past win #903....

  • the full-court pass is FAR more impressive than a near-uncontested free-throw jumper

  • Greatest play of any sport of all time. I might be a little biased being it I'm a DUKE fan! But it truly was one of the greatest sports moments I've ever seen! Great day for Duke fans, Terrible day for Big Blue Nation!

  • where's the laettner stomp??? classy guy

  • the inbounds passer was MORE integral to the play than Christian's shot, IMHO

  • Love how the reverse happened to duke against VCU and ERIC MAYNOR..GET BENT DUKE!

  • I can honestly say that this was the BEST game I've ever seen in the NCAA Tourney and I'm a 44 year old fan. I'm a huge ACC fan but my team is UNC. There have been some classics between them and Duke but this was the best. I love this time of year!!!! Yayyyy, March Madness !

  • Dude, I'm a UNC fan and can barely watch this. UK deserved to have that happen to them. That D on the last play was pathetic; they don't guard the ball, they don't stop the pass, they don't even guard Laettner when he shoots. Look at the defenders just standing around watching. Not taking anything away from Laettner though. The guy didn't miss a shot all game. Clutch.

  • @cschnei08 You have to remember that the Kentucky players were all in serious foul trouble, and Jamal Mashburn was already out. Above all else, they didn't want to allow Laettner to beat them at the free-throw line. He was going to have to do it with a shot. Under the circumstances, Pitino decided to defend 5-on-4 and let Hill throw the pass uncontested. You have to give Hill credit for making a perfect throw, right where no one but Laettner could get it without fouling.

  • i'm a UofL fan so SUCK IT UK! Go Princeton!

  • @ThePacManFan01 wheres ur team now?

  • @ren2020ky STFU

  • @ren2020ky good comeback. spoken like a true fan of a losing team

  • i'm a UofL fan so SUCK IT UK! G

  • I get to meet him in a couple of weeks!

  • OFF THE GLASS!

    gets his own rebound...

    :D

  • if your watcjing this you gotta watch the chris farley laettner parody!!! its way better LMFAO

  • I watched this game as a kid. Remembered this like it was yesterday, watching it with my dad on the sofa. when sean woods(currently head coach at MVSU) made that shot, i turned the tv channel and cried my eyes out and when i turned it back, and laettner made that shot, i was jumping, hollering, screaming with joy. to me that was the greatest college basketball game of all time, at least in my opinion.

  • @jsutiger07

I had an identical reaction, though iwas watching it in my room. I was crying because i thought Duke was going to lose, but when Laettner hit that shot you couldn't stop me from cheering so hard and loudly.

  • Who is the tallest basketball player?

  • and then duke just went on to made so many winning seasons we lost count.

  • @StFidjnr ture enough, but so have the Wildcats.

  • Watched this game as a kid and in a matter of moments I went for deep depression to complete joy. What a game and what a shot. Go Duke.

  • BOBBY AND CHRISTIAN!! los mejores

  • those where the best of times!!

  • That night the UK campus was DEAD silent from the loss.....

The game was one of the highlights during my years at UK.

    Go CATS !!!!

  • Get taller ! here is the solution " helpo growth formula"

    google it.

  • i had this game taped on vhs....and i fucked up by taping over it!!... im still spewin' about it :(

  • I've been a NCSU fan since Valvano started to coach and really hate the Blue Devils a lot but I can't forget this shot. Laettner was THE AWESEOM.

  • remember watching this game with my grandfather from Kentucky hoping they would match up with Indiana in the Final 4

  • I still ask the same question:

How in the HELL did Laettner know that he had enough time to dribble and fade away before he shot? That's crazy...

  • I still ask the question, Why the HELL did Pitnio not guard the inbounds passer?

  • @nintendodailyvideos: You got me on that.

The night of this game, I was at a banquet. I was hoping that UK would win, but I didn't think they would. When I got home and found out how they lost, though, I was disappointed. They should have won this game. For one, Laettner should have been ejected for kicking Timberlake. Secondly, it is too bad that Woods didn't wait one more second before driving. And, finally, what was Pitino thinking on the inbounds? That probably gives him nightmares.

  • @sptrfn Pitino didn't shake Coach K's hand after the game even though his team legitimately lost. He deserved to lose.

  • yeah Duke is the best ever and theres nothin nobody can do about it

  • i luv the cats and hate duke not just cuz of this game i just hate them with my whole heart and laettner shoulda been outta tht game for stomping on tht guys chest i mean who does tht to someone durnin a basketball the cats shouldve won

  • best game ever

  • god damnit i still cry when stupid ass laetner hits the shot. why do i fukin watch. go cats!!!

  • The cats were robbed. Go cats

  • This is bull s*** ! Ky should have won!!! Duke got way way way to lucky!!!!!

  • @ZLBLBUS actually..watch the kentuckey shot to go ahead of duke...that was a lucky shot.....1 lucky shot deserves another...

  • The greatest college basketball game of all time. An all time classic!

  • @richie19190 have you watched them all rich

  • @TheFr3sh1 Yes I have. Besides the Super Bowl, March Madness and the NCAA Basketball Tournament is my favorite sporting event of the year.

  • @richie19190 Well goood for you then lol

  • What a classic! Go Blue Devils!!! We're making a run in Indianapolis during March Madness 2010!!!

  • Laettner was 10 for 10 from the field and 10 for 10 from the line. For that one game he was perfect. Pitino admitted that right as his players were going to the floor he said, "Don't foul Laettner." So they backed off....

  • A classic. I remember what a great game Mashburn had - 28 points, 10 rebounds. Too bad he fouled out in OT and wasn't on the court at the very end.

  • I am a Duke fan and I remember the game well. Mashburn matched Laettner for the most part. Tough game for anyone to lose

  • So, what is the Calipari Curse?

    Missed free throws.

When the game is on the line, when the heat is turned up, you can count on any team Calipari is coaching to miss free throws.

    Beware the missed free throws...

  • you mean cheaterspari?

  • tears.....cold chills....emotional rollercoaster....the greatest college game ever played!

  • Neither program has been very special the last several years.......especially UK.

  • now im not saying this just b/c of the great finish but does it seem like talent in college basketball has dropped off since then... like not only individual but also team? idk help me solve this one

  • Its a mix between the game becoming a lot more selfish, and people running for the NBA. It was honestly even better when they could go straight from HS, because then you didn't have great players helping programs only to watch them collapse a year later when they would be sophomores and head to the pros. People only want money, school spirit is dead. I wish the NBA/NFL would require a 4 year wait or 4 years of school (Redshirt + 3 possible) to enter, college sports would be great again.

  • agree completely like imagine if durant was still playing for texas, wouldn't that make things more interesting

  • absolutely. across-the-board ncaa talent peaked in the mid-90s. been downhill ever since.

  • the talent is there. its just always young because they all go pro early.

That and they don't focus enough on fundamentals anymore. But the talent is still there.

  • you are so right proof of that is in this game laettner didnt miss a single shot the whole game he even made all his free throws do you see any players do that today in college basketball the answer is no cause of the talent level being so low and keep in mid laettner made all his shots from the outside and he is a big man and he hit 3 pointers too.

  • the crazy thing is how many of those great college players (especially laetner) in the 90's did anything in the pros i mean look at tmac, kg, and kobe, high school high school and high school

  • i wonder what you would say if kobe had played for duke because that was the college he was going to play for he liked coach k alot and even visited duke campus he was very close to playing for duke so your logic doesnt hold up.

  • I remember this game very well. I was glued to the tube. I was 21 at the time and a student at Mississippi State. I was a BIG Duke fan back then, even though Kentucky was in the SEC with Miss State. UK was a TRUE rival. Hated Pitino. This is truly the best game ever played in NCAA history. Ya gotta love it.

  • No doubt, the greatest NCAA tournament game ever. This should have been the final game, as UK and DUKE were obviously the best two teams. Say what you want against Laettner (cocky, arogant, etc...), but he never waivered, there was never a doubt that he would make that shot. Probably the greatest performance ever by a college player.

  • i agree with UK and DUKE being the best two in the tournament that year. DUKE had the all star talent. And Kentucky had the grit, heart and pure team work. Going into that game i was sure the winner of that game was taking home the trophy. Too bad it wasn't the team i wanted (ughh) Go Big Blue!

  • I love your name and your style, damn you go girl, byatch!

  • I remember this game. I was 14. greatest game ever!

  • I know. I was 14 to. He was the first CHRISTIAN I fell in love. With. Better late then never, Joseph Thomas. He was the bomb in 1992 and he was in People Magazine's 50 most Beautiful People which I bought and saved. He as so great, I wanted to go to DUKE but ended up at CAL tho my true love went to DAVIS but he was WAY too old to remember me, he's got angina and alzheimers now! damn. but oh well, there's always Mark Antony in Napoli

  • I remember this game well. I didn't watch it because I had a banquet that night. I didn't think that UK had a chance, even though I was rooting for them because I despise Duke(I hate UK too, but, Duke was the bigger evil at the time). I came home and saw the highlights, and I said "that's how they lost? Man". I couldn't believe it played out like that. If the UK player gets that steal(at 1:16) when he lunged for the ball, they probably would have won the game, and then win the whole tourney.

  • I loved this game. You must be a LiverPool Supporter to, as there is no way that a damn Man U red player would be.

Anyway, DUKE REPEATED and couldve threepeated,

SO GLAD THEY HAD COACH K!!!!!

    damn, ncaa MARCH MADNESS makes

me think that today is the FIRST DAY of SPRING FORWARD 2 U C!!! ax

  • laettner should have been ejected

  • Yeah, he should have been.

  • The best game ever. Enough said.

  • Greatest college game ever

  • yesterday my team won 29-30 =) hahahahahahahaha don't be mean im only 13 years old

  • dude, if i was still playin organized basketball i wouldn't care if my team won each game 10-9 as long as we one. good for you guys

  • that was the greatest game ever.

  • Greatest college basketball game ever.

  • man the game has changed so much since 1992, it's a physical game now that's not as much fun to watch...it's all about fouling without getting caught, the defense in the game was straight up

  • lol i think its funny i was still in my moms stomach when this happened both my parents watched it and they told my this is why my name is Christian.

  • Hmm, so your parents saw a basketball player violently step on another player and then they decided to name their kid after him. That's kinda weird.

  • They probably just saw him sink what is considered one of the greatest college buzzer beaters of all time regardless of the fact that he "stomped" Timberlake. He got a tech, he admitted he was stupid to do it, and Duke won. You probably weren't even alive to watch this.

  • not to mention no one remembers how leattner was pushed and shoved throughout the game

  • amen

  • I defintely remember this game

  • Greatest play by ONE of the games best college players.

  • That's interesting, guys.

I remember this day very well. I was playing basketball that day (a Saturday), and my brother and I went to the house of one of the friends we were playing with. We watched the last five to seven minutes of regulation and overtime.

The soundbite toward the end of Sean Woods' shot (which he said he had practiced since his childhood, and, therefore, wasn't the insane shot that it appeared to be) is not the live call. You heard the reaction to a shot earlier.

  • Christian Laettener's mom was my third grade teacher in 1993-1994. He came to our class once, too :)

  • must have been a catholic school

  • My school was public. He did not go there, though!

  • Anyways, he went to Nichols school, in Buffalo

  • march 28, 92 day i was born
