I know I'm going to get a lot of hate for this, but I think Doctor Who has gotten better with each season. I liked neither Eccleston nor Rose, I liked Tennant more than Eccleston, I liked Martha more than Rose (though not much), I liked Donna more than Martha, and I liked Smith and Amy much much more than any previous doctor/companion pair. Sensible Rory->Badass Rory only makes it better. Smith has the Doctor's spirit, and Amy isn't just a lovestruck plot point or useless sidekick.

I think there was this feeling like Rose and the tenth needed each other in a way that River and the eleventh don't. River is very independent and spends most of her time away from the doctor, whereas Rose and the tenth were more or less inseparable, meaning that when the actually were separated, it hurt a lot more than if River and the eleventh are separated.

The Doctor may have changed in personality a little bit but overall he is still the same person and Rose could see through the physical and the slight personal change BECAUSE she loved him. Rose did not love the 9th doctor (she did but.) Rose loved The Doctor. No matter what he looks like he is The Doctor and that will never change. Everyone changes in personality, you don't have the same personality you did as a kid.
