I have been able to integrate/assimilate very well because I viewed myself as an individual first and as a citizen, rather than as belonging to certain clan or cult or religion. When I was in Nairobi, I had alot of muslim somali friends and then again here in Toronto. It is the islamic influence on young somali men which is embedded in the culture that impedes their progress. I refused to live in the ethnic ghettos.

@356pla yes that is partly true but for some their motivation is tied to their faith, the example i was trying to get across is that in Somalia the general outlook is that the hard working trustworthy men do not use khat because it is forbidden in Islam whilst the majority of the rest spend what little income they get on it and use it excessively during the day and they will do anything to get their khat just as any drug addict would.

I would like Ayaan Hirsi Ali to make a comment on former Australian Politician Pauline Hanson, who caused a big polemic when she asked for a moratorium on Muslim immigration in Australia, claiming that Muslim values are imcompatible with 'Australian values'. Does Ms. Hirsi Ali's immigration ideology converge with Pauline Hanson's ?

@akingham1311 Pauline Hanson should have emphasized the problem's not with self-identified, Muslims per se, but with the ability of devout Muslims to integrate into Aussie society. Islam honors misogyny, intolerance, indolence and violence, which are incompatible with Western values. The more devout the Muslim, the harder to embrace civilized values. Hanson should have favored immigration from relatively liberal Muslim countries like Turkey or Bosnia, but discouraged Arab or Somali entry.

i personally think that in our present state we do not need archaic scriptures to dictate moral.. however simply as reading material like any other objectively peruse whatever material you choose but understand that in the end you are responsible for your actions but you are not the only one affected by your actions...
