I really like it. Very well done. In the vein of Dave Mallet the original artist. No offense, I love his version the most but you guys and gals did an excellent job of it. Keep it up.
I like this. I murder this everytime I do it solo, so I like anyone who can put some life and energy into it. The girls' voices add a little bit of ethereal to it. Very fitting.
For those of you have not heard them, please check out these kids versions of " Queensland Whalers " and " Heather on the Moor ". I don't normally like the slower songs, but I have listened to their version of Heather on the Moor over and over. Perfect harmony, very understated as a song like that should be. Which is what makes it so enjoyable to listen to.
Lacks clear diction? Do you think these kids have the resources of the Dubliners? They did this for a video camera. The Dubliners have all kinds of acoustic available to them. And as far as giving it life, I find the Dubliner's version version somewhat boring. I like the Dubliners okay on some songs, not so much on others. But the worst part of the Dubliners is their fans who think no one but them can sing these songs. I'm glad Luke Kelly is not as arrogant as some of his fans.
You are quite correct, moominpic. I was aware of Mr. Kelly's ( although not Mr. Drew's ) death at the time I made my post. I just invoked Luke Kelly's name to make my point about the rudeness of the replies that had been made to these kids by a couple of posters. And don't think I don't like the Dubliners. I very much do and have for many years. Thanks for your comment.
And I do note that in my original post I said " IS not as arrogant " as opposed to the more appropriate " WAS not as arrogant ". That was just a case of me not proofreading my post before posting.
Hi Rikki, yes, that was what made me comment. I agree, it is very unfair to judge all groups by the Dubliners. It would be pointless starting a band if all one did was judge against such a yardstick. These guys bring something different which the Dubs couldn't bring to it. And that's what its all about.
This is s fine rendition of this song by any standards,The Dubliners would have applauded them I feel sure, Luke, Ronnie et all are the benchmark by which many a group/band are to be compared with, fair or otherwise, trust me the Dubliners own roots came from meagre rescources, talent overcomes such matters, better not to get bogged down in futile comparisons when the sheer joy that such people, including this performance brings most of us.
I have to agree... This song is sung best by the likes of the Dubliners and The Clancys. This is just a cheap half hearted version of a great song! The banjo player was good though!
Mr. BardofCornwall, God knows I love ya and your music (try finding a decent recording of "I Will Go" that's scarcely better than yours), but you have to keep in mind the placement of the video camera. If the sound was patched in to the camera from the soundboard, I bet this would not be the case. God bless, mate.

And you comment was not only offbase, it was just downright rude.

Rikki0, Luke Kelly has been dead since 1984. I think Ronnie Drew (who also died this summer) sings it on the Dubliners' 25th.

Nice arrangement, though the backup vocals (the "oohs") are a tad too audible. Still, a nice version with lots of energy.
