The reason the egg gets sucked down is because of atmosphereic pressure. When the matches were dropped in, the air inside the bottle heated up and expanded remaining the same pressure as the atmosphere. When the egg was placed on top, the fire extinquished because it consumed the oxygen in the bottel. Then the air inside the bottel began to cool. Since the bottle was sealed by the egg, the pressure inside the bottle dropped. High pressure always seeks low pressure. Outside air pushed it in.
