  • Not as sexy as my Asus, I have the Super Slim Series, it's freaking stunning! But if you want one, you better hope you have about $1,500 dollars laying around. Haha

  • WOW they really copied the macbook pro keyboard.

Mac is more expensive, but its way better built, the screen is much better and the OS is fantastic...the touchpad is perfect. If you have the money, and you r not looking for some specific characteristic, like for gaming, them you should go for the mac. My macbook Pro has 2 years and no space in the hd, but it never broke, never had to format it.

If you need to run programs that work only on windows, bootcamp is really easy to use,or parallels

  • @Rafael849910 mac to me is not easy to naviagte.... also its fkin annoying u cant left click...... and they have overly expensive programs and their battery cells die and start losing power i have a mac just bought asus laptop is much better.....fkin dumbass whit thrash

  • @Rafael849910 What you call 'The Macbook Pro' keyboard is actually called a chiclet keyboard and was invented by SONY, not Apple :)

  • Mac is beter the even have more money that the United States of funking America.that tells you something.

  • fuk you vdo

  • Buy HP, Asus, acer , or a mac but DO NOT BUY a "msi" its sucks, it mess up so soon, the graphics sucks too it freeze after 2-3 months of use..

  • Oh yeah speakers are very weak, and under the (squeaky) palm rests. headphones work fine.

Good power saving options with their Super Hybrid engine.

Did a clean install on a SSD using the drivers from website, a Win 7 Home Retail DVD, and the windows key from underneath the laptop.

ExpressGate is a bit pointless, and doesn't run at full resolution, so never really bothered.

  • alternatives are the Acer Timeline 3810TG and Travelmate 8371 (without HDMI out but matte screen), for the same price tag. Also comes with HD4330 for a little extra, and can do a bit of gaming. Well worth checking it out if you are loking for a HD-capable netbook. Zacate E-350 will make these obsolete soon though.

  • It's built a bit cheap. The pad is a weird dimple texture that takes getting used to. Buttons are stiff, just use the trackpad gestures (works great). Screen has poor viewing angles, and there is some flex bottom left and right corner.

However, Massive battery life, and good performance. I really like mine, especially at £350. Great for travelling or being away from home. Never had problems with WIFI.

Mine does 1080p HD playback fine with latest Intel drivers. Only I Player HD is choppy.

  • Just bought one for my father in law, and i'm very impressed. I got him the version with the small 2200 mAh battery, and it still manages to go more than 4 hours on a single charge. It is so compact and light, but still powerful and fast enough for normal use. It runs 720p youtube videos perfectly, 1080p isn't running smooth though.

This one shipped with the great World of Goo game, but also alot of crapware ;o)

The price is also very good, at least here in Denmark.

  • @GrandDanois

You need to update your flash player...

Thats why you have shitty 1080p performance..

  • i have my Asus A3E notebook with more than 5 years,it still perfectly functioning, untill now the battery still can lastlong 2 ON my lappy ard 9 minute! No other reason 4 me 2 change it.keyboard button still perfectly functioning, sometimes i still used it 2 play O2jam offline game.i never send it back for warranty bcoz it never breakdown....

  • this laptop is a cheap piece of shit.

  • @watersoaked94 why?

  • r31ncarnat3d...THANKS YOU!!!!....hp does make shit laptops!!!

  • HP NOTEBOOKS SUCKKK!!!!!!!

  • Why is it more and more PC's are starting to look like Macs.

  • I know one who has this... God I'm jealous. I should have waited for getting a ASUS laptop, because mine sucks. After a while, some of the button on the keyboard got loose and in the end, they fell off. Just waiting for the next button to come off and that's why I only want to buy a laptop with a keyboard like this one.

  • ASUS FTW

  • what is the best asus laptop to buy? im planning on using it for college, starcraft2 and diablo3

  • @fuckyeah009 you can buy anyone, all are OK for that...

  • Great review but basically what I want is a laptop that is ASUS but looks like alienware ... Ugh please have customizable bodies and LEDs'

  • Thank you very much for this review which I found most useful.

I use you tube a lot but did not think of looking here for reviews. I found this more helpful than anything I have read.

My requirements are at least 4GB RAM, long battery life as I travel a great deal + I would like something which is 'tough'.

Other than the Asus are there any other suggestions?

  • do you know what the gateway one that you mention in the start is called

  • what's ASUS's best 15-16 inch laptop?

    thanks

  • asus' screen is the worst

  • what is culv??

  • @willsk2 consumer ultra low voltage

  • do u guys know that ASUS used to make MAC'S

  • Why nowadays the latest laptops have only 2 ports of USB when the the old days had the standard 3? isnt it I3 better than core 2?

  • @Tommydudez Yes i3 is newer/better than core 2 duo.

Who needs usb anyway? This laptop would be great for use in University.

2 usbs enough, but i think this has 3.

  • One question is whether the laptop good for games???

  • lol my old hp was shit. dv3 model.. the palm rest always gets fucking hot.. and the battery life was shit..

asus makes good lappys i like this lappy but more so the ul30vt model with switchable graphics.. was initially set on getting the m11x from alienware but decided to go with the 30vt. and i'm really happy with it been using it for 2 months now

  • my new pc can do 48 gb of ram muhahahahaha lolz

  • not bad now

  • IBM T61 looks a lot better

  • @smellytoilet1996 hahahahaha

  • it*

  • does i have multitouch?

  • I just wonder if this would work for me, right now I have a macbook pro 2,53 ghz 4 gb (late 2009 model) but I want a somewhat cheaper laptop for "college" with more batterylife

  • @mcneuschris well depending on which macbook pro u hav, the computer will by a little smaller and of course a little slower (cpu speed) but with the amount of ram and other features it has especially the 10 - 12 hrs of battery life its awesome... u should probably go to site where they have lots of user reviews of this pc to c if it's right for u...

  • its fuckin beautiful

  • @cxian i agree

  • No CD-drive... thats retarded.

  • How is that retarded? I barely use CD drives anyways, and they were just a waste of space and power for me. Besides, if I really needed to read a CD, I can just stream the files from my desktop to my laptop.

  • Ofc it is. Its standard. U just need it, otherwise u are limited with options and its like going backwards. And maybe i dont have or want a desktop PC. Its just retarded, logicaly.

  • Or maybe you're just retarded yourself.

First off, look at all the low-voltage, mobile laptops out. Most of them DONT have optical drives.

Second, I managed to install Windows 7 on my new SSD as well as Office 2007 and Audiosurf on it without any discs.

Just learn to get with the times instead of complaining about why the market isn't catering to your archaic needs.

  • @r31ncarnat3d true... plus external dvd drives aint that much (of a cost)...

  • @r31ncarnat3d HAHAHHAHAA! XD

  • this sexy notebook are playable with cod4 l4d.only crysis will be laggy.

  • is this a gaming netbook? but the battery life is EXTRODINARY!! twice than most netbooks!

  • Mac if you want to spend an extra thousand dollars.

  • You're... an idiot. You'd rather buy an HP and a Mac than an Asus? You definitely are computer illiterate then.

The Mac has comparable hardware to the Asus laptop in question for a much higher price. The only difference is the OS they use. You're basically paying more for popularity.

As for HP, they make shit laptops. Heavy, low battery life, high heat, and break down easily.

Why don't you research before you make a stupid comment like that next time?

  • "You're basically paying more for popularity."

Mac is popular? At least it's not over here.

  • Huh, really? I really find that odd. My old high school and my current college in California love Macs. Maybe it's our proximity to the Apple headquarters?

  • Hp's do suck, Mac's are overpriced. The good brands are Sony, Asus, Toshiba, Lenovo.

  • @iStevenT Definitely. It's a bit unfortunate that Lenovo won't update their looks. They're solid machines, but definitely have too much of a bland look. If they refreshed their aesthetics, they could definitely do well in the general consumer market.

  • Yeah, Lenovo uses has crappy rugged keyboard

  • Lenovo has that crappy old style keyboard*

  • @r31ncarnat3d asus is a great laptop i have it runs super fast

  • @r31ncarnat3d Uhm, your comment is "wrong". Mac OS X is NOT popular, compared to Windows. In fact, it has many times lower percent marketshare than Windows... That said, you shouldnt comment if you don't know what you're talking about.OS X is only on Macs produced by Apple for a reason:to give the very best user experience, and a high quality computer/software package no one else can deliver. As with this Asus: beautiful quality HW, but comes OVERLOADED with crap you have to spend hours removing.

  • @cfm247

    1. I was speaking in my experience as a college student. Go to any university, and Macs usually are the majority, the most popular "want", or both. Similarly, while OS X only commands a small market share, its sales have been rising.

    2. Wrong, OS X gives Apple a monopoly. I used a Mac for three years and absolutely hate the GUI. It's too dumbed down, and likes to freeze up on me while using CS4. It was def better than Vista, but I switched to W7 when it came out.

  • Finally, yes most PC laptops come with crapware, but it takes a few minutes to remove. If it really does take you "hours", you're either running W7 on a Pentium II or you really are computer illiterate.

  • @r31ncarnat3d true dat

  • @r31ncarnat3d you are right! but just one thing: the people buying apple is not for "popularity", is because they want to be snob, the apple propaganda is designed for that...at this point, anyone who has used both can say that a PC can do all a mac does, but not vice versa

  • @r31ncarnat3d I believe you are wrong.. I have an HP Notebook, The battery life is 8 hours, It is no lighter than 5lbs, it does not get hot, only slightly warm, and they do not break down easily, I have had my hp Notebook for 3 years and have had no problems whatsoever. Think twice before you say something bad about a laptop you probably know nothing about.

  • @xTheBrokenSoulx Please, I know much more about computers than you do, so why don't you shut your mouth?

First off, how do you explain how HP has the highest failure rates among all the major laptop suppliers, including Dell?

Second, which laptop are you using? If you're using an add-on 12-cell battery, don't bother, other manufacturers have managed to squeeze more power into a 6 or 8-cell.

And "light"? I don't know how you can consider 5lbs light, but I'll take my 3lb laptop over that anyday

  • @r31ncarnat3d id buy a mac sony laptop ownd

  • @assassinsXCREEDXX Cool story, now get off your daddy's laptop and let the grownups talk.

  • @assassinsXCREEDXX yes go and pay 1000$ for shitty hardware compared to what you can get for the same price. you are a loser

  • @r31ncarnat3d REALLY NOW? I just finished a 5 year tech class in college, I believe I know way more than you, and if they have such a failure rate then why isn't mine completely fucked yet? Think of a better reply next time.

  • @xTheBrokenSoulx Because they don't have a 100% failure rate? Or that one sample isn't at all proportional to the entire population of HP laptops out there?

And sorry, but taking a 5 year tech class at some pay-for-a-degree cant-get-into-a-real-college school doesn't count.

And next time, before you bring up a counter for statistics, try taking a class in the subject first so you don't look like a fool.

  • @r31ncarnat3d You are absolutely right, I have a HP Pavilion, it's great extremely hot, I just don't understand there battery so poor, and it's very slow (I didn't buy a cheap version). And I just read Asus makes one of the best laptops, almost no one breaks. And don't get me wrong, HP actually makes the worst laptops, half of there laptops breaks. That's why I'm getting an Asus.

    Sorry for my bad english.

  • @r31ncarnat3d i know you say shit but what about the hp envy 14 beats? should i consider that?

  • @roycemolokai1 Toshiba's suck... Too much low battery life. They mess up too easily. :D

  • Can you tell me the difference of UL30A-X5 and asus ul30vt

  • The UL30Vt-X1 has an additional graphics card (nvidia G210m) that you can toggle back and forth with. It also has the capacity for 4 more GBs of RAM. Other than that, there is no difference.

  • i have this one if freaking awesome, the only thing i miss sometimes is an optical drive

  • @survivorevil have you tried playing games? i ordered one9asus ul30 A A1) ,itl be comming in a month. if it would work on any call of duty 4,5 or 6 in medium settings i'd be really happy. a

  • wow that LENOVO looks good too

  • Comment removed

  • I would have loved a backlit keyboard because my University lectures involve presentations in the dark so typing up notes is going to be a hassle. Many say backlit keyboards are pointless but they are usefull at certain situations.

  • When you are taking lecture notes, you are not supposed to be looking at the keyboard.

  • I prefer typing then writing crap on paper and even though I touch type i still tend to look at the keypads on some occasion when I misplace myself. A backlit keyboard is a blessing as not many people can touch type accurately.

  • i think they just look cool haha

  • ur asking for alot now, few have backlit keyboards. however the one I just ordered does, its Australian model, u80.

  • A backlit keyboard is not really alot, unless i asked for a pair of crossfired HD 5xxx in their :)...hopefully those will come out soon on this :P

  • ATI is for fags nvidia actually makes good shit.

  • someone tell me!! is atom dual core + ION better than CULV + gma??

  • No atom regarding CPU is inferior to CULV especially when it comes to the Core 2 Duo SU processors which are far better than Atom. GPU on the other hand the Ion is a lot better than any of the Intel offerings in Netbooks. We haven't got to a point yet where integrated GPU can beat dedicated ones so always go for dedicated. The UL30vt coming out will have Nvidia 260 and a Core 2 Duo option which hands down beats a dual core atom with Ion.

  • i think their so alike is because asus makes the unibody is what i heard..

  • Which Lenovo laptop is that? Anyone know?

  • asus

  • @StevieD377 U350

  • Lenovo Ideapad U350.

  • This laptop is such a great thing to have. I just love it. Over 7h working time (if you use the High Performance leval)

  • First of all, nice laptop mac book pro styling. no dvd drive :-O second the voice is not very loud. plz speak up.

  • agree with the voice . Oh my. PC Mag editor doesnt know how to boost mic's volume at all :(

  • now. I'm nottrying to be mean but it's very low on volume

  • @UnitedMovieMakers

    YOU'RE BEING WAY TOO MEAN

  • Nice laptop, I like how it looks subtle without the glossy surface most laptops have now.

  • yea its sexy lookin

  • Sweet Laptop! Macbook Pro Style

  • That's an insult to Asus. This doesn't look like any Mac computer.

  • No it's not ;/

  • THIRD!!!!!

  • barly any volume...
