Yes....I agree the score was pathetic and way too high. Scores shouldn't automatically elevate the scores like this...not Lavinia's fault, but so unfair to the other gymnasts
This routine didn't really stand out for me. Maybe they took out the compulsories because the judges got lazy about judging them. That crap about the compulsories not being good for the developing countries was just something they made up.
I don't honestly think she was over scored here. I think they simply did not deduct for the step on the landing, other occurrences of that happened throughout these games when they gave the athletes the benefit of the doubt such as with podkopayeva in the AA they didn't deduct for her bent knees or khorkina in the EF they didn't deduct for her feet hitting the bar.
Yeah I agree. Do you think it was possible to get 8 women for bars finals who all had a chance to medal though? I guess you could argue Khorkina, Chow, Dawes, Wengjing, Kochetkova, Podkopayeva all had a chance to medal. Huilian, Xuan, Piskun made a huge mistake that would have kept them from qualifying even if the Romanians werent overscored. So I guess you would need 2 others outside of those in that case.
I completey agree with you, USAG and have you checked out Zelepukina's compulsory routine? That near flawless routine was only scored a whopping 9.650. She stuck her landing and hit all of her handstands except for maybe one. Not only was Zelepukina's compulsory routine better than Amanar & Milo's, but her optional was way better too. This is just another classic example of the Romanians getting the benefit of the doubt way too often.
Well there are 8 in the EF and only 3 medal, so winning a medal in EF isnt exactly a requirement needed to medal. It isnt their vault Xuan and Mo screwed up compulsories so only 1 Chinese made finals (Bi) and that Piskun blew her optional bar set to take herself out of finals. Who should have been in finals over them that was actually eligible, meaning not eliminated by the 2 per country rule or screwing up one of their team event performances.
Check out Zelepukina's compulsory routine. That alone should've at least gotten a 9.8 and as far as I know she didn't mess up in her optionals either. She was robbed cold with a 9.650 in her compulsory which clearly had better form and a better landing than Milo's and Amanar's. She definitely should've been in EFs over these two.
Grafgirl, you can see for yourself too. All you have to do is type in Svetlana Zelepukina on youtube and you'll see her bars clip appear. Totally robbed. The judges were on crack or some type of koolaid to give Zelepukina that ridiculous score as she only missed one handstand.
Thanks for that as I had never seen it before now. After having seen it you are right. Her score was ridiculous. There is no way Milo or even Amanar should have been in bars finals over her. Disgusting protocal judging.
scored on bars. And the judges in compulsories are extra harsh with the scores

@gymnasticsloverxoxo it think that a step on the landing is more noticeable than a feet clip on the low bar. Plus, Lilia was sometimes over

@gymnasticsloverxoxo However I think if she got a 9.850 podkopayeva and kochetkova deserved 9.850's on their compulsory bar routines as well.

@gymnasticsloverxoxo She didn't stick any of the handstands. The score was way too high.

@TheSienna29 She didn't hold the handstand on the low bar but the rest were pretty satisfactory compared to the rest of the compulsory routines.

Yeah and SHANNON MILLER was scored less with her flawless (but slightly boring) routine!

OK I didnt see her. I will take your word for it though. It sounds like her lack of name is what kept her score down.

The most generous score of all time. I would love to know how the judges came up with the number they did. Gymnastics politics much?
