I'd hit that switch when I hit third gear, at 70,, it would do about 47 out of first, 70 out of second, 105 out of third, hell, I could go 120 in fourth, just cruzing,, nail it and hear the four barrel kick in.

ok, I had a switch, killed one set of the dual point distribitor,, bumped timing advance up to 46 before TDC,, the car ran like hell,, I beat gto's, chevelle's, camaro's,, charger rt 440, and they all had headers, intakes, holley carbs,,, my dart was stock,, except for the switch to cut out the first set of points and bump the timing.

Lets see, a 425 horse hemi cuda or a 335 horse mustang, I had a 66 Chevelle, but anyone knew the hemi ruled and it only put out 425 horse because it was so detuned to make it safe for street use. Catch a clue Ford fans.

@WZH1953 I'd probably put my money on the hemi, but 335 hp was way underrated for the CJ, just as the Z-28 made more than the 290 hp it advertised. Insurance rates were starting to be a problem, and some manufacturers were gaming the system.

@WZH1953 ford rated the 428cj at 335 cuz of insurance reasons. when a 428CJ with the 496 street cam puts out a 441hp 453ft trq how do i know cuz i have one. its legit my uncle sold it to me for $2,000. and its 1969 correct. i had it dyno tuned after stock rebuild with the original 735cfm holley, oh and a iron intake manifold. LOW RISER HEADS too. catch a clue really? yeah and thats why 428s mopped up 68 winternats NHRA. 454 chevelles werent shit neither was the 426 hemis. 440s raped 426s

You dont have a stock cam in the cj to pull a 4.11 on the street. Other wise it would spin it to death just cruzin. The 28 didnt need RPM to go fast. The long stroke made gobbs of torque. My dad ran a 1969 SCJ in NHRA SS elim. For a long time. Now the 27 liked rpm. I can remember when he had a 65 Comet cyclone with a boss 302 in it, He ran that on the street with a 5.13!!!

Put the 585 lift cam in it that is the 427 profile. It is very reliable and will easily turn your engine into a low 12 second machine. Do the few easy mode on the engine to make it live too like a high volume pump and a larger volume oil pan. Make it run, make it live!

Ha, ha, the race at the strip against the TownCar reminded me of a time back in 1989. A friend had bought a '69 428 Mustang (for $3500 a couple years prior--big money back then!!!!) and we were driving up Reseda Blvd. in Tarzana or Reseda, Calif. A Taurus kept trying to race us, and the driver looked really pissed that he couldn't keep up at stoplight after stoplight. It was a SHO Taurus, and the driver must have thought he had a muscle car eater. I guess it was supposed to be a sleeper LOL

It is stroked to 463. It dynoed at over 600 rear wheel horse. I sold this car and am building a 557 cu in Boss 9. Video of that engines dyno sessions will follow.
