if they were anything like the YO i was in, i'd say there are all these gray haired youth symphony members because they bring alumni in for concerts xD just a notion :)
Nice, except for the oboe solo in the beginning... too fast, and the sound is small, in stead of a full sound..... the duet with the english horn in the middle sounds nice though.... But I love the percussion at 6.40: Good job!
I just can't help but wonder... why are there so many adults? Like... there are 2 young oboists and 1 young english horn player, so why an adult extra on oboe?
I like it a lot, I do not have a lot of knowledge about musical instruments and how to play one, but I know about music, and this is very nice, I guess when you have a lot of knowledge little or insignificant differences in the play ruin it, thank goodness I can appreciate music from my own point of view, it is a five star!!!
I don't know why, but for some reason, the stringed version doesn't do it for me. I mean, it sounds so mainstream contemporary with the strings. The wind ensemble arrangement by Kenneth Singleton sounds so much better, especially at the parts at 1:02 and 5:35.
But nonetheless, good job guys, I know my middle school band wouldn't be able to play this piece.
I'm sorry but the solo at the beginning was unbelievable fast. It should be much slower, slower that at 2:00. I'm sorry if I offended anyone but that almost ruined it for me:(
Oh, I realize that and I'm not blaming them, i just think it was a bad call on the conductor's part. Slower would have been easier anyway, that's why I couldn't understand it.
I'm a high school oboe player, and I do the solo at like 1/4 of that speed. Except the jumps, those were closer to my speed. But I thought the solo was really good! Btw, my conductor NEVER decides how fast I play that solo....

6:39 = my favorite part. maybe it's because i'm a percussionist, so i'm biased :P

If this is a youth orchestra, why does the 1st clarinet player at 1:00 look like he's 50?
