I had never been to the office before and I went there one day CRYING for help about an unfair teacher and our dean MADE a joke about me to his secretary and LAUGHED!
I am a Seneca student and there are a lot of VERY good teachers who cared so much about the kids there teaching. BUT, I have had so many teachers that did NOT do their job and have told the students openly in class that they do not want to be a teacher and that we shouldn't become one. One of my teachers went so far as to COMPLAIN that she wasn't making enough DURING class. Seneca Valley is NOT all about the students.
My credibility comes as a future teacher. By the end of next year I will be a certified educator deemed so by the Common Wealth of Pennsylvania, I am a Secondary Education Social Studies, and History major. I am also majoring in Political Science, and Anthropology and Sociology.
Again you are probably using an online dictionary definition of socialism. And unless you are a libertarian you are a model hypocrite.
I will be the fist to admit the educational system that is in place today is flawed. Having said that it is part of a flawed government, so you cannot lay blame on that or the teachers of today. Perhaps if you generation or you parents generation did more to further the cause of education you would not have had to post this video
Since you like to talk about economicsyou have to invest capital into the district to get a return, and there is a direct correlation between how much money the community invests and the quality of education that comes from that.
And oh yeah you are describing communism not socialism.
So you were just criticizing elements of NCLB for being too socialistic and now you are say hey lets vote on things like vouchers.hmm are those not part NCLB
So you are telling me that if a school needs more financial help and does not have the money and two districts over a school is overflowing with money and needs not help that perhaps some of the extra money should not go to the struggling school.
It is hard to make any progress with out the financial backing for these programs.
Haha then you go on to ask what is wrong, like you would truly know. You can probably provide some useful insight but unless you are in this profession then you are not really credible or qualified to preach and criticize this situation, and profession.
And remember that capitalism does not have controls; it is simply supply and demand.or at least in the way that you are using it.
We should also keep in mind that just because you view education as a government service that does not mean, you as parent have no role in education. REMEMBER LEARNING IS NOT CONFINED TO A SPACE OR PHYSICAL LOCATION!
And yes the taxpayers are how the teachers get paid, but we do not work for you. We work for your children.
Then you criticize the government; well perhaps we should take away all the socialistic aspects and programs of our government and see what is left to serve you
And again around 1:57 you use the term production. Schools are not factories, teachers are not factory workers. I do not see education as a product; it is more of a gift.
Can you even tell me which model of economics you are using, and who is considered to be the founder of that way of thinking?
Well if you would really like to know the history of unions I would be more than willing to send you a term paper I wrote on evolution of guilds to unions.
So it sounds like you are against people having better wages and working conditionsyou must live in Cranberry Twp and are probably a modern-day Boss Tweed figureor you are just ignorant and are a hard core conservative (not that there is any wrong with being a conservative).
I will not insult your intelligence and be a fountain of information, I think you are fully capable of researching that and analyzing the data.
Also you through the term produce around a lotare you forgetting that schools are not factories, and that its a human institution, and you cannot technically measure learning, only behavior.
Then you moved on to unions, suddenly you become a historian.
And any educated taxpayer knows the future of the children, community, state, nation, and global community rest solely in the hands the teachers; education is the greatest gift we can give to our children. There could never be too much money spent on education, if you like to talk in economic terms, then look at how much America is spending and compare it to other developed nations or major trade partners, then look at the other nations GDP.
Well with NCLB schools and ultimately teachers are being held accountableeven if NCLB does not provide adequate funds and has many flaws but if you really want to talk about educational reforms I would be glad to, send me a message and we can set something up.
Yes you are 100% correct that the teachers cannot strike for an unlimited amount of timehowever once they are (were) forced back they have the ability to strike again.
From 1:06-1:12if you feel as you childs teacher does not really care about them, then simply transfer your student to a private schoolwhere they will not be held accountable to the same standards as the public schools. private schools are not required to follow NCLB
Ok so we can probably safely assume that your profession is clearly not in the fields of educationor market and communicationso how does this lend credibility to your understanding of the AFT (American Federation of Teachers) or the NEA (National Education Association) both groups are very involved with the unions that you are attacking.
Maybe you should do a little more research on unions. If it wasn't for unions you would not have weekends off. You wouldn't have to worry about education of your children, they would be working in factories and mines for pennies. Do you really think your employer would just want to give you a fare wage and a good working condition, guess again. Yes, teachers have 3 months off in the summer, oh wait we teach until the beginning of June, are required to take classes on our own time, start aug.
Being a Seneca Valley student and a friend of many I can tell you that the teachers have lost support of many parents that at one time stood on their side. We can easily replace teachers and no one is able to dictate their pay and benefits. If you don't think your being paid enought then you shouldn't have entered the field. You work nine months a year, many vaction days, you get off at three, should you be complaining? NO! Your support among the community has dwindled to almost nothing.
My name is Nigel Jones, And I'm a former Seneca Valley student. I don't think a strike was necissary, and even if, it had no real way of being sucsessful. This is just screwed up. They've worked since June 6th, 2006 without a contract, and they just decided NOW to take action about it? If on June 7th they went on strike, I would understand. But waiting until the school year, was nothing more than a cheap attempt at attention.
Jimmy Hoffa's dead, Strikes over, Go back to work!
seneca is horrible and i dont like it as a student i glad to say im back in school, but it isnt fair to take away my break for the teachers bitchyness.
Hello this is an concerned Seneca Valley student I would just like to say that your rights do not matter to anyone anymore! The teachers took my education from me ,How dare you!For a little the students thought it was funny .Once my friends and I gatherd around we did relize that this is so DUMB!We have as many rights as the teachers do.Our eduction matters more then just a 6 % raise. Money is not more then education.
An ad hominem argument instead of active debate? I am not naive and I understand the possible ramifications to my child from my opinions. My original response was to be a text response. However, only "approved" comments are allowed. Hence my censorship comment. As a matter of fact, I respect the work teacher's do. But logically, the system is flawed. I welcome intelligent debate. Personally, I would pay more for a better education for our children.

You have something so important to say but you won't even show your face.
You hide behind a video and you expect people to listen.
You are a coward. How is that for logic?
