I remember when this F-150 was released and it was all over the news for months how UNSAFE this vehicle was. I dont know how Ford, being the FIRST big USA automaker, being such a HUGE company could produce a peice of shit like that. In 2004 I remember a girl buying this truck (same year as in this video, 2001 I believe) because she thought it was safer than her older car, a Honda. I told her the problem with this truck and her jaw hit the floor. RIPPED OFF.

this test was done by the IIHS not NCAP. and its done on a 97 to 03 model F-150, not a newer one. These were still the first generations of this model when they switched to the SOHC modular motor and dropped the OHV 5.0 and 5.8 liter motors. I wish you people would research stuff like this before going off on youre "European cars are better" tyraids.

To be fair, these trucks weren't designed with offset crash tests in mind... Trucks, minivans, and SUVs have different crash-test requirements and safety ratings than passenger cars in the US. The current F-150 (and the 04-08 models) were designed with a full bumper to withstand such tests; the comparible chevrolet silverado is not, even the current GMT900 iteration. Working in a body shop you find these things out: where there isn't a bumper connected to the frame, there lots of damage occurs.
