I just picked up a series 1 on Craigslist for $700. I am so impressed with the quality and range of sounds that can be produced. This amp has a fantastic clean sound with my Les Paul (challenging), and the lead channel absolutely screams! FYI, the lead channel can be used in vintage mode, which does a great job for a modern AC/DC type of sound. Highly recommend!
@jharrelson31 YES. I had this Recto Combo, and I would have the gain on about 5.5, and the Volume up to 7/8 and every one would tell me to turn it down. The trick with these Mesas are tweaking the EQ, and preamp/power amp to get that sweet spot. Mesa are notorious for tweaking until you hit that MARK l II III IV, etc. Very Heavy AMPS Built like War Machines,(high End Components that Mr. Smith is Famous for) and can also be very unforgiving if your chops suck. Practice, an Play Hard
@alpilon23 Those three bands all used varying brands of amps including Marshall, Orange, Supro, Hiwatt, Vox, Fender, etc. ... so it might be hard to nail all those tones with this one as it is geared more toward modern style gain.
It's decent in the all around game, but to get those tones, I'd probably start looking in the Marshall camp first. Seems that may have had the most overlap between those three acts.
@crxshdxmmy no i agree. this amp can do about anything well and actualy has a much better sound to me than the other rectos on the dirty side. Mine's a very big sounding amp. I have the head.
@gravano2 The cleans are not thin at all, however it is easy to overdo the treble. Depending on your guitar and desired sound you need to carefully tweek the treble and presence knobs. This amp requires patience as it is so versitile you will need to spend time dialing in your sound. Cheap pickups will still sound like cheap pickups.... Also... this amp will NOT sound like it is supposed to when played at low or moderate volume. It opens up immensely when turned up.
@jnuhjnuh I have trouble with this unit , You are right about patience , but with all styles of music I play - I just can't seem to get the in between sounds , IE John Cougar ,Pat Benetar then have a solo setting that's not over the top. Also I can never play at high volumes in the gigs I do . Lets face it , I need a roadster combo
@gravano2 That's your problem... If you can't let it sing, then it will always sound "O.K." at best. Wattage aside, this amp isn't far off from its dual rec cousin in terms of volume (and the need to be played loud). Depending on your speaker something like a THD hot plate works wonders for this amps character when played at lower volumes. With the Roadster being selectable between 50-100 watts, you may still have some issues as this 50 watter. The roadster is obviously more versatile on the fly
@jnuhjnuh I actually tried a dc-5 today and found it more to my liking , it did well for most tones and even rocked more than I thought , a lot lighter to move as well
@gravano2 ,couldn't disagree more, check your amp settings or get your amp checked, I´ve played this through a fender strat and tele for years and can make it sound fat as hell. It's a pretty versatile amp.
This amp is the shit. I bought it used and it still runs like a dream. I play it through a marshall cab to get that full cabinet sound but the single speaker is easily loud enough for any venue.
I LOVE my Rectoverb series 2. Recently switched to EL34's and it cuts through the mix like a knife now. I play in a 90's rock cover band and it handles everything i ask of it and then some. Can't say enough good things about this amp.
love the amp, i have a 2x12 lonestar and i love the clean but i just wish the distortion on it was a little more ballsy like this one. nice playing man.
That's a great sound, although i really prefer the Mark serie sound. I thinks this amp sound better than dual/tripple Rectifiers. Thanks for making this video.
Dude, This amp sounds awesome. This is the sound I am going for. On the heavy channel, when you started playing, it sounded like Stars from Switchfoot. Your sound was perfect for that, and at end like Godsmack Whatever.
I was thinking about a Dual Rec, but your single sounds awesome. I am going for a Tool/Alterbridge sound.
Hey man, nice amp. I'm looking for a Mesa combo that would be good for high gain music. Do you think this amp would be a good choice or would the Dual Rec Roadster combo or Mark IV be better? Thanks a lot for your time.
Hi, sorry to interrupt but why do you need a combo anyway? a combo is harder to carry than a head and cab.
but to answer your question, it depends on what you want it to sound like. Mark IV has a dream theater/lamb of god/metallica tone (i just ordered a mark IV head, cant wait to have it).
the rectos are just way more brutal, but i heard they didn't have such a smooth lead as the mark IV.
if you choose the rectifier, you now have to check how much of an amp you need.
Sorry.... but I disagree. I had a Recto head & 4x12 prior to this amp and I can tell you for a fact that THIS is much easier to get around rather than the head/cab pairing.
But I agree w/ your answer -- it depends on what you want. IMO, the primary difference between Marks & Rectos is in voicing, texture, and "grain" of the distortion.
Recto = Gravel
Mark = Sand
Plus, the Mark series generally has a tighter sound with more midrange than recto line. I prefer Rectos. YMMV.
well i believe you. you probably have more experience with amps than me, but i was talking about 1x12 or 2x12 cabs. but you may be right even in this case.
Btw i love the gravel and sand analogy, and your video is great!
heh... well, then again, I had a 2x12 Mesa Tremoverb for a bit and that thing was a MONSTER. 90-some-odd pounds of pure awesomeness. Talk about a backbreaker!!
It might've taken an extra trip, but the 1/2 stack was a dream compared to getting that thing around. Seriously -- beware any COMBO amp that has side handles. There's no reason for that.
Hey thanks to both of you for the insight. i think the recto is more what I'm looking for than the mark IV. Are you guys framiliar with the Stiletto series of Mesa amps? Any insight on those? I played a stiletto Deuce at the store a while back and it sounded great.
I haven't played the top-of-the-line model from that series, but I wasn't too impressed with either of the other two.
To be honest, you might want to check out a Rectoverb if you like how this demo sounds. I talked to a guy a month or two back who scored one on Craigslist for some ridiculous price... $500 or something like that. Most of the time though, you can have one of these for $850 or less.
Not in the Rectoverb I don't think. They made the Tremoverb in a 100w 2x12 and now they're making the Road Kind in a 2x12.... but AFAIK, the RoV only came in a 1x12.
Yeah.... I'm keeping mine. Took me awhile to decide to do it, but the Tremoverb is just too much for me I think. As much as the RoV wants to be cranked, the ToV NEEDS to be. Great amp, but I don't have neighbors forgiving enough for it. :D
I have a Tremoverb. I love it, but I hate to carry it. These Rectoverbs have a similar sort of tone, and the 1x12 version is a lot lighter. I'm thinking of picking one of these up. I'm getting too old for loading 2x12 combo amps at 3 a.m. All the tone, half the weight.
You have good taste in amps! Mesa amps kick ass. I have the Tremo head with 2x12 cab. It rocks, but I prefer to carry something lighter. I bought a Budda for gigs. It sounds great too, but it still breaks my back. It's a 2x12 combo. What the hell was I thinking? And I always thought my ears would go first!
The Budda is like a hotrodded old Marshall. I have the 45 w model, and it is ungodly loud. The volume is hard to deal with, and I should be using a power soak (but I don't). Great tones, though.
I've actually decided to keep the Rectoverb. Seems like the ToV might be a bit much for my needs..... real nice amp (and I'm glad I picked it up) but a 100w 2x12 = boatload of overkill for me.
i was thinking of getting this or a marshall possibly dsl 50. Any opinions from anyone? i play a decent variety of tones, blues to pretty hard rock. i know marshallls are good for a gnr hendrix type sound, would the rectoverb be a better pick?
Mesa gets a bad rap for being "metal amps" or whatever -- but I'm sure you'd be surprised by their versatility. This amp has some of the best clean tones I've ever heard, killer distortion and a real nice overdrive too. Really, I'd say it comes down to personal preference, but I don't see how you could go wrong with a Mesa.
I have played on a DSL 50 for about 2 years. It is a grate amp with good clean and distortion, but i am tired of the fizzy sound and going to get a tremoverb or rectoverb. If you getting a DSL buy a TC electronic G-major!!! Those are fantastic together! it is a must hav if you own a DSL 50!!!! Good luck! (You can buy my DSL 50 + a 1936 cab if you want)
I had the TSl 122 what a pile of shit...it spent more time at the tech then was switched on.Now i have a Mesa express 5:50 and Mesa's build quality is twice that of Marshalls.I just need a rectro now trying to work out which one verb, trem,or Roadster
If you use a cheap cable, the signal will struggle to get to your amp,so you have to use more bass to make up for it..With a Monster guitar cable you need no eq at all cause your signal going to your amp is strong..Now if the guitar pickup is to high..you will get a fizz ..the vibs from the strings are getting caught on the top of the pickup..by lowering the bass side you will get rid of fizz..wich I hear on this vid at 342 you will hear it also..
I see your point Joey -- cheap cables and improperly adjusted pickups can add excess noise ... but in my experience (which spans across a good number of guitars and amps), when you crank the gain, things get a little noisy.
Thanks for your comments and suggestions and I'll look into it, but let's let it be.
yea same here i was wantin to put a blue in but cant figure out how to put it in...can yout tell me and mine is series 2 if that matters. and is your grill realy like rough?
Not in this amp -- in several others, yes... but not in this one. Check YouTube for a few good tutorials. And yes, replaced gem. Came w/ red, I liked the blue better. :)
yea im having to put tubes in it cuz i bought it used and yea people siad you will know when you need to replace em and they were oh so right lol its gets muddy and everthing so yea cant wait for teh new tubes..do i need to have someone else replace them or what
well man i got the mesa I LOVE IT OMG THE CLEANS ARE AWEOMSE AND the vintage and modern overdrive are awesome too and the crunch isnt bad also :)) I LOVE IT.. its just heavy lol but i can manage it and it comes with a case too so thats nice i got mine half price used off a guy and its brand new with all the original material:) so im happy thnx man
Actually, yeah. Thanks to the "Master" volume knob on this amp, you can dial in some low-volume goodness. I usually run both volume knobs around 9:00 at home and it sounds great.
well i have lots of pedals like blues driver metal muff and distortion so yea and the fender im lookin @ is a high end fender 1400 and its kinda supped up
Well, if you're looking for your tone from pedals, then an amp with spectacular cleans like the Fender could very well work for you. That said, if you want more than just great cleans, you may want to consider a Mesa -- which has great cleans and phenomenal distortion tones. I mean, only you know what you need, and I'd recommend you try out both before making a decision, but Fender amps (as awesome as they are) seem a bit like 1-trick ponies to me. Seems like you get more for your money w/ Mesa.
thnx im choosin between this and a fender supersonic combo. can you help me.(try to be fair with both amps ) and help by what you think i would like teh most by the sound in my vids
In all honesty, you probably want a Mesa. I haven't played a Supersonic, but FWIW -- a lot of the covers you're doing are by bands who use amp-driven distortion tones -- and you cannot get those tones with a Fender amp. Period. The Mesa has underrated cleans and a whole level of "drive" that you simply cannot pull from a Fender. I don't know how else to say it.
I'd check out the whole Mesa line -- the Nomads are fantastic, Recto- & Tremo-verbs too. Even the Subway Rocket could probably work.
This amp sounds amazing, i might be getting one for $700 (Series 1)...I like how it has really nice clean and AMAZING distortion, since i play everything from mellow rock to hard rock :).
NICE!! Please let me know if this Amp will cover Southern Rock Tones with the intense Gain turned down a bit. I am looking to get this amp, but I need to know if it will do a Dickey Betts(Allman Bros.),Alan Collins(Skynryd), Toy Caldwell(Tucker), Billy Jones(outlaws)type of tone. Especially with Les Pauls, and Strats. I know there are Marshalls out there that accomplish those tones, but I want to be able to do OZZY/METALLICA too. Thanks Phal
Well, you get a nice crunch out of the clean channel on the "pushed" mode, so that might get what you're looking for. Then you could use the dirty channel on "vintage" for some boost/added dirt probably. Just an idea. I don't play that kind of stuff, but I don't see why you couldn't get it out of this amp. Really, this amp is capable of a LOT of various tones. And on top of that, since tubes play such a big role, you could probably nail the tone you're looking for with the right tube pairing.
Thanks CRX. I had a TriAxis years ago with the 2:90, and if I remember the Yellow channel which was the Mark IIC config. did sound a lot like the Marshalls Plexi/800/JTM 45. Of course it all depended on how you have your Gain, and EQ setup. Thats ONE thing with Boogie that a lot of other Amp manufactures lack>>Versatility. With the Mesa's they are very tweak worthy, and all the pots, and features are highly interactive. Thanks, and God Bless the USA!!!!
With the Series 1 you only get two modes on the lead channel: Vintage & Modern. 99% of the time I use the Modern setting because it's got more gain, bass & overall presence. I do recall how nice the "raw" setting on my old Dual Recto head was however.
The distortions aren't the same in the Singles to the Duals.
There's a different circuit in the series 2 ones which sounds more like the duals.
Im getting rid of my single for a RockerVerb50, I prefer the orange sounding distortion. More my kind of distortion sound and it can manage my metal-esc sounding music.
I don't know what the availability is over there, but $1300 seems a bit steep... unless it's new.
Either way, I'd certainly use it for metal. Brutal as can be I think, but pretty usable in most applications as well. If you liked how this demo sounded, it'll probably work out for you.
Sheesh!! I'd hate to be wherever you are. Like I said below, I paid around $800 for this one.
Anyway, you can get some nice warm stuff if you back the gain off, but I like it for the great cleans and that super aggressive Mesa distortion. I've got pedals for overdrive.
For this I would go more toward the Mark IV series. Actually, it's out of production. I suspect they might come out with a new amp at Namm 2009. Let's check it out. FWIW I don't beleive the rectifier has a smooth sound. It's hard to give an objective opinion though. With all the tricks you can do with different pups, cabs, OD's to color the sound (especially the BBpreamp [really smooth!!]) I think you can't go wrong with a mesa. Just experiment things with amp you already own and... keep it!
If I'm not mistaken, the RectoVerb is the same circuit as the Single Recto .... only with reverb and in combo form -- so generally speaking, it should sound exactly the same. There's also a Mesa TremoVerb that has tremolo & reverb built in.
you pretty out of tune haha. but this amp is amazing. i'm saving up for one, and sadly that will take me awhile, but i know this is the amp for me. it packs a huge wallop on the lead channel and the clean is so pristine and beautiful. pretty sweet review. just get the guitar in tune first :)
You're right -- this is a great amp. I'll probably be redoing this demo sometime later this week because I can't stand the trebley nature of this clip ... so I'll make sure I tune up first.
yeah the treble is extremly piercing, and not in a good way, but i know for a fact thats not from the amp. your camera just has some extremely treble. at first it almost sounded like you had el34's in there *shudders* haha. but once again, wonderful review.
Yeah... that was partially due to the camera, but the YouTube compression only compounded the problem. If you compare the clip, side by side from my computer to YouTube ... the treble is noticeably worse. Like I said, I'm going to try and redo this at some point. It was my first amp review, so I think it deserves another go.

I have a Tremoverb. I love it, but I hate to carry it. These Rectoverbs have a similar sort of tone, and the 1x12 version is a lot lighter. I'm thinking of picking one of these up. I'm getting too old for loading 2x12 combo amps at 3 a.m. All the tone, half the weight.
khgreene 2 years ago
Funny story -- I just bought a Tremoverb last week and am in the process of trying to sell this Rectoverb.
crxshdxmmy 2 years ago
You have good taste in amps! Mesa amps kick ass. I have the Tremo head with 2x12 cab. It rocks, but I prefer to carry something lighter. I bought a Budda for gigs. It sounds great too, but it still breaks my back. It's a 2x12 combo. What the hell was I thinking? And I always thought my ears would go first!
khgreene 2 years ago
They do. This is my 4th...
Dual Recto w/ 4x12.
Rectoverb.
Nomad 45.
Tremoverb.
I only have the RoV and ToV at the moment, but all of those amps are VERY nice....
In addition to the ToV, I'm running a Vox AC15H1TV for the quieter stuff (though that amp is unimaginably loud for a 15 watter).
Is the Budda Marshally?? I've never played one.
crxshdxmmy 2 years ago
The Budda is like a hotrodded old Marshall. I have the 45 w model, and it is ungodly loud. The volume is hard to deal with, and I should be using a power soak (but I don't). Great tones, though.
khgreene 2 years ago
ebaying it? what would you let it go for? im sure you'll get plenty of people asking for it on here if you posted a decent price
miller434 2 years ago
I've actually decided to keep the Rectoverb. Seems like the ToV might be a bit much for my needs..... real nice amp (and I'm glad I picked it up) but a 100w 2x12 = boatload of overkill for me.
crxshdxmmy 2 years ago
i was thinking of getting this or a marshall possibly dsl 50. Any opinions from anyone? i play a decent variety of tones, blues to pretty hard rock. i know marshallls are good for a gnr hendrix type sound, would the rectoverb be a better pick?
miller434 2 years ago
Mesa gets a bad rap for being "metal amps" or whatever -- but I'm sure you'd be surprised by their versatility. This amp has some of the best clean tones I've ever heard, killer distortion and a real nice overdrive too. Really, I'd say it comes down to personal preference, but I don't see how you could go wrong with a Mesa.
crxshdxmmy 2 years ago
I have played on a DSL 50 for about 2 years. It is a grate amp with good clean and distortion, but i am tired of the fizzy sound and going to get a tremoverb or rectoverb. If you getting a DSL buy a TC electronic G-major!!! Those are fantastic together! it is a must hav if you own a DSL 50!!!! Good luck! (You can buy my DSL 50 + a 1936 cab if you want)
RainierMemory 2 years ago
I had the TSl 122 what a pile of shit...it spent more time at the tech then was switched on.Now i have a Mesa express 5:50 and Mesa's build quality is twice that of Marshalls.I just need a rectro now trying to work out which one verb, trem,or Roadster
cptbollock 2 years ago
oh... it's DAMN loud... i use one for small gigs with my band... MESA FUCKING OWNS.

is it tube
ihatebobsaget1989 2 years ago
...yes.
crxshdxmmy 2 years ago
i doubt it is very loud though since it is 1X12
ihatebobsaget1989 2 years ago
It's a 50-watt tube amp. It's VERY loud. 1x12 or not, it's got more than enough volume for anything I'd ever use it for.
crxshdxmmy 2 years ago
Trust me these things are L-O-U-D. Try playing one, really.
BrianBosboom 2 years ago
well someone is selling it on my local craigslist for $500. do you think its a good deal?
ihatebobsaget1989 2 years ago
Yes. I traded about $850 worth of gear for this one.
crxshdxmmy 2 years ago
Well I said the amp is fine..I can tell the amp is not putting out the noise!
joeydahlia 3 years ago
If you use a cheap cable, the signal will struggle to get to your amp,so you have to use more bass to make up for it..With a Monster guitar cable you need no eq at all cause your signal going to your amp is strong..Now if the guitar pickup is to high..you will get a fizz ..the vibs from the strings are getting caught on the top of the pickup..by lowering the bass side you will get rid of fizz..wich I hear on this vid at 342 you will hear it also..
joeydahlia 3 years ago
snake oil mate. The input is high impedance so no current flows through the cable. How will a signal struggle if there's no flow?
bubbamc119 2 years ago
um huh?
joeydahlia 2 years ago
It is a great amp..Try a guitar Monster cable and lower the bass side of your pickup on the bridge!
and rerecord this video..
joeydahlia 3 years ago
alot of noise on the dirty channel..
Cheap cables or pickups not set up right!
joeydahlia 3 years ago
Or it's a loud amp dialed up with a lot of gain.
crxshdxmmy 3 years ago
I can tell the amp is fine..it's a cheap cable or pick ups are not adjusted right!
joeydahlia 3 years ago
Expert.
crxshdxmmy 3 years ago
why don't you shut the fuck up, Mr. PICKUPS AREN'T ADJUST RIGHT?
guitardudejosh19 3 years ago 4
Hm I guess you don't know that there are screws to move the pick up up or down..
But you don't play guitar so how would you know that!
Children these dayz
joeydahlia 3 years ago
I see your point Joey -- cheap cables and improperly adjusted pickups can add excess noise ... but in my experience (which spans across a good number of guitars and amps), when you crank the gain, things get a little noisy.
Thanks for your comments and suggestions and I'll look into it, but let's let it be.
Thanks.
crxshdxmmy 3 years ago
that guys a fucking smart ass bitch, its a mesa cranked its gonna get noisy fuck me its a metal amp

jennafan14 3 years ago
Not in this amp -- in several others, yes... but not in this one. Check YouTube for a few good tutorials. And yes, replaced gem. Came w/ red, I liked the blue better. :)

crxshdxmmy 3 years ago
well man i got the mesa I LOVE IT OMG THE CLEANS ARE AWEOMSE AND the vintage and modern overdrive are awesome too and the crunch isnt bad also :)) I LOVE IT.. its just heavy lol but i can manage it and it comes with a case too so thats nice i got mine half price used off a guy and its brand new with all the original material:) so im happy thnx man
jennafan14 3 years ago
Congrats buddy -- glad you like it. And everything you said is true. Killer cleans and nice nice nice nice gain. Enjoy!!
crxshdxmmy 3 years ago
Ok, thank you very much ;-)
alexstrat 3 years ago
Can it played at a low volume? (bedroom volume) Thx
alexstrat 3 years ago
Actually, yeah. Thanks to the "Master" volume knob on this amp, you can dial in some low-volume goodness. I usually run both volume knobs around 9:00 at home and it sounds great.
crxshdxmmy 3 years ago
ok thnx man i will but the fender i want is @ guitar center and the mesa is @ a local music shop and i would like to compare side by side but oh well
jennafan14 3 years ago
well i have lots of pedals like blues driver metal muff and distortion so yea and the fender im lookin @ is a high end fender 1400 and its kinda supped up
jennafan14 3 years ago
Well, if you're looking for your tone from pedals, then an amp with spectacular cleans like the Fender could very well work for you. That said, if you want more than just great cleans, you may want to consider a Mesa -- which has great cleans and phenomenal distortion tones. I mean, only you know what you need, and I'd recommend you try out both before making a decision, but Fender amps (as awesome as they are) seem a bit like 1-trick ponies to me. Seems like you get more for your money w/ Mesa.
crxshdxmmy 3 years ago
thnx im choosin between this and a fender supersonic combo. can you help me.(try to be fair with both amps ) and help by what you think i would like teh most by the sound in my vids
jennafan14 3 years ago
In all honesty, you probably want a Mesa. I haven't played a Supersonic, but FWIW -- a lot of the covers you're doing are by bands who use amp-driven distortion tones -- and you cannot get those tones with a Fender amp. Period. The Mesa has underrated cleans and a whole level of "drive" that you simply cannot pull from a Fender. I don't know how else to say it.
I'd check out the whole Mesa line -- the Nomads are fantastic, Recto- & Tremo-verbs too. Even the Subway Rocket could probably work.
crxshdxmmy 3 years ago
ive played the mesa and the fender, the mes is better i bielve.
guns1rose 3 years ago
how much was this again?? and is it the replica of teh single rectifier head?
jennafan14 3 years ago
I traded locally for this one actually -- I gave the previous owner approximately $900 in other gear for it.
crxshdxmmy 3 years ago
These amps are amazing for recording, and great for live shows.
nathan102485 3 years ago
This amp sounds amazing, i might be getting one for $700 (Series 1)...I like how it has really nice clean and AMAZING distortion, since i play everything from mellow rock to hard rock :).
HomeBredTuna 3 years ago
nice amp :) just bought one myself! what size are those castors you have put on the base? im interested in getting a set on mine
ap6640 3 years ago
I didn't put them on, so I'm not exactly sure... if I had to guess though, I'd say they're probably 2.5" or 3".
crxshdxmmy 3 years ago
Thanks Phal
phallystorm 3 years ago
Well, you get a nice crunch out of the clean channel on the "pushed" mode, so that might get what you're looking for. Then you could use the dirty channel on "vintage" for some boost/added dirt probably. Just an idea. I don't play that kind of stuff, but I don't see why you couldn't get it out of this amp. Really, this amp is capable of a LOT of various tones. And on top of that, since tubes play such a big role, you could probably nail the tone you're looking for with the right tube pairing.
crxshdxmmy 3 years ago
Thanks, and God Bless the USA!!!!
phallystorm 3 years ago
If you get the series 2 version you can get a more classic tone in the "Raw" setting on the dist channel.
riverak100 3 years ago
This is true.
With the Series 1 you only get two modes on the lead channel: Vintage & Modern. 99% of the time I use the Modern setting because it's got more gain, bass & overall presence. I do recall how nice the "raw" setting on my old Dual Recto head was however.
Thanks for the reminder!
crxshdxmmy 3 years ago
The distortions aren't the same in the Singles to the Duals.
There's a different circuit in the series 2 ones which sounds more like the duals.
Im getting rid of my single for a RockerVerb50, I prefer the orange sounding distortion. More my kind of distortion sound and it can manage my metal-esc sounding music.
spratty59 2 years ago
i'm thinking about buying one like that amp for 950 euros (about 1300 dollars) for a thrash metalband
should i do that or not? what do you think as a mesa boogie owner?
deestra 3 years ago
I don't know what the availability is over there, but $1300 seems a bit steep... unless it's new.
Either way, I'd certainly use it for metal. Brutal as can be I think, but pretty usable in most applications as well. If you liked how this demo sounded, it'll probably work out for you.
crxshdxmmy 3 years ago
a bit steep? that is less than 50% of the new price xD
I liked the demo, yes:) it'll probably help me decide but i need it to play mainly metallica songs (old metallica)
and one last question: does it have the warm, smooth, creamy, orgazmic sound that makes mesa boogie so special?
deestra 3 years ago
Sheesh!! I'd hate to be wherever you are. Like I said below, I paid around $800 for this one.
Anyway, you can get some nice warm stuff if you back the gain off, but I like it for the great cleans and that super aggressive Mesa distortion. I've got pedals for overdrive.
crxshdxmmy 3 years ago
nice, thank you:)
and that combo new costs 2200 euros (i estimate that would be about 3000 bucks)
but you think it would do for a die-hard metallica lover?:p i know that metallica likes the dual and triple rectifiers :p
does it actually sound the same like the single rectifier head?
*tries the audio preview* haha, i love that new feature xD
deestra 3 years ago
For this I would go more toward the Mark IV series. Actually, it's out of production. I suspect they might come out with a new amp at Namm 2009. Let's check it out. FWIW I don't beleive the rectifier has a smooth sound. It's hard to give an objective opinion though. With all the tricks you can do with different pups, cabs, OD's to color the sound (especially the BBpreamp [really smooth!!]) I think you can't go wrong with a mesa. Just experiment things with amp you already own and... keep it!
positivesoldier 3 years ago
Should you use a Mesa for metal? Should you use a hammher to hit a nail into a board? 'Nuff said.
LunarStride 3 years ago
depends, some nails are made for drills
lol JK:p thanks for giving your opinion:p
deestra 3 years ago
what diffirences are there between rectoverb and single recto? plz answer...they have the same sound or not?
katseazzz 3 years ago
If I'm not mistaken, the RectoVerb is the same circuit as the Single Recto .... only with reverb and in combo form -- so generally speaking, it should sound exactly the same. There's also a Mesa TremoVerb that has tremolo & reverb built in.
crxshdxmmy 3 years ago
Hey Awesome review!! how much did u pay for this amp? do you know if it comes in a 2x12?
veterholtzen 3 years ago
Thanks!! I actually traded for this particular amp, but the going rate seems to be around $800 for these right now -- sometimes less.
crxshdxmmy 3 years ago
Also, I'm fairly certain they only come in 1x12 form -- which is really more than enough.... for me at least.
crxshdxmmy 3 years ago
It comes in a 1x12 combo and a 50 watt head. My head cost 800 on ebay.
nacho8807 3 years ago
Yeah -- I traded some gear for this one, but got it for about $750.
crxshdxmmy 3 years ago
I've got an older version of this amp I think. The f-100 combo. This amp has 2 12 inch Celestians? Nice playing by the way
scrubmart 3 years ago
Nope... this is a 1x12 combo and features a Mesa Black Shadow speaker. And thanks for the compliment.

crxshdxmmy 3 years ago
you pretty out of tune haha. but this amp is amazing. i'm saving up for one, and sadly that will take me awhile, but i know this is the amp for me. it packs a huge wallop on the lead channel and the clean is so pristine and beautiful. pretty sweet review. just get the guitar in tune first :)
punkdude543 3 years ago
You're right -- this is a great amp. I'll probably be redoing this demo sometime later this week because I can't stand the trebley nature of this clip ... so I'll make sure I tune up first.
crxshdxmmy 3 years ago
yeah the treble is extremly piercing, and not in a good way, but i know for a fact thats not from the amp. your camera just has some extremely treble. at first it almost sounded like you had el34's in there *shudders* haha. but once again, wonderful review.
punkdude543 3 years ago
Yeah... that was partially due to the camera, but the YouTube compression only compounded the problem. If you compare the clip, side by side from my computer to YouTube ... the treble is noticeably worse. Like I said, I'm going to try and redo this at some point. It was my first amp review, so I think it deserves another go.
