Thanks for the vid it really helped, also could you recommend my a strong folder for under 60? Iwas looking a the kershaw blur and sog trident tanto. Thanks, Alex
Well I love my Spyderco Enduras, have used one for over a decade with great results. There's the Cold Steel Recon 1, AK-47, and Lawman... all great blades. The Kershaw Blur is a good one as well. I have videos on the Trident, the Blur, Enduras, The AK-47 and Recon 1.
@X4CTO Just 242'd my new Cold Steel Recon-1. I just wish I could have found one with old Benchmade Style axis lock. Much faster deployment but Triad lock is incredibly strong. No play in the blade at all.
I have the old Recon 1 with the Ultra Lock... I am actually thinking of selling it soon. I am thinking of having a knife sale, not sure which ones yet though.
I love the TriAd lock for sure... but I will agree that the Recons with Ultra Locks are faster to deploy. I actually have a video talking about just that and showing some gravity open options with both locks. =)
@X4CTO I think the thumb stud to deploy the Triad lock is pretty solid, so the extra tiny bit of speed of the UltraLock/Axis isn't a big deal for me. Although, it would be nice to have the Ultralock just from a collector's perspective. I might have to pick up the triad lock version with the clip point blade. Good vids!
Yeah I agree... it's not a big deal at all really, and overall I much prefer the new Recon 1's.
I like them both, but if I had to keep one of course it's going to be the newer one.
I had the clip point TriAd lock version... I have some videos on it too... but I ended up trading it for something I wanted more a while back. It was a great blade shape though for sure.
helped me out plenty, i'ma get some as soon as i'm not broke for that white g10 insert all stainless steel bali. my other two are pin construction. what's the shelf life? like if i buy a tube and put the cap on will it dry up eventually?
Shelf life is pretty good in my experience... I've been using this same tube of it for about a year and a half and nothing has changed with it's consistency so far. Just make sure to always tighten the cap down good.
superglues if inferior to threadlocker, but anyway, if you have trouble removing it, just try acetone, it'll separate in minutes. loctite on the other hand can only be disassembled with heat, in case it seizes and does not allow for tool disassembly
I'm 18 and barely stumbled upon the wonderful world of knives...anyway, after doing a lot of perusing through sites, a lot of them recommended Loctite for screws, especially for the cheaper $20 balisongs that are good for beginners like me. This video is perfect for learning the Loctite application, so I thank you for your amusing and intelligent tutorial that wasn't just some monotone guy droning on endlessly. The cussing helped and 8 minutes flew by really quickly and I even learned something!
Well welcome to the knife hobby my friend, it's a great one... addicting... but great, haha! Stick around here in our You Tube knife community and meet a lot of cool people and learn a lot... that's what I did. The more you learn, the more you want though... so be careful! =)
You're very welcome... I thank you for stopping by to watch my video too! I really appreciate the compliments, means a lot to me. I try to make things interesting and helpful... if I can help and make you laugh, I'm happy!
Hey, Can I use loctite on my telescopic baton? It has a head that screws on, but when I use it to destroy bricks and whatnot, it keeps loosening, also, I'm scared that the loctite won't be able to withstand the shock of the baton hitting something hard.
I don't know if the blue would hold up real good or not, I never tried it to be honest... but the red loctite is more permanent and would make a really strong bond. You could try the blue #242 loctite though, it just might hold. I know it does wonders on my balisongs, even after repeated drops from trying new tricks, haha.
Hey man quick question...did this to my pivot screw and I am still able to tighten the screw after the knife has sat for 3 days. Is that normal of should it literally be frozen in place after it is applied? Can anyone help me on this one I'm new to using loctite. Thanks in advancce!
If you're using the blue #242 Loctite then yes it is normal for it to be able to be adjusted easily... the blue stuff just helps it to stay in place on it's own better. There is a red Loctite that will create a stronger bond, maybe more permanent... but I never use this type personally.
Anyway, to answer your question, yes it's perfectly normal. Now if the screw is loosening on it's own then that's not normal.
I try to keep everything on point for my viewers so they don't have to listen to too much random stuff... if I want to ramble about stuff I'll make a video for that by itself and make sure y'all know up front about it.
can you please make a vid doing this to a balisong cause i tried this on my m tech twist and i messed the whole thing up and i cant put it back together
@X4CTO its all in peices and the little circle things are out and i cant put it back together i still have a the peices and every thing and its not broken its just taken apart.
I either screwed up the application of the Loctite or the screws on my Twist were f'd up before I even got it. There is no change before or after the Loctite. I'm constantly having to tighten 'em up. I've watched both yours and cutlerylover's Loctite vids and seems easy enough. Just put a single drop on the screw and thread it in to where you want it... then wait 24 hours. I waited 22 1/2 hours. How the hell could an hour and a half screw this up? Maybe I'll try it again with different screws.
and the problem is mostly with the safe handle... loosens up quite a bit somewhat easily. It's funny tho'... one of the washers on the safe handle looks like it's digging into the blade to the point where it only looks as though there's only one washer there. Oh yeah, the latch keeps coming unscrewed and flinging off... had me crawling around with a flashlight a few times looking for the screw, hehe... guess I'll have to loctite that too
Sounds like the screws might be stripped. I really don't think an hour and a half difference in set time would make that big of a difference, definitely sounds like something else is going on here. Yeah I would try more screws and see where that gets you, if that doesn't work we need to start looking at other parts of the knife.
I applied the blue 242 loctite, single drop each screw, adjusted the screws until it was just loose enough to where I could life the handles without the blade moving/being affected and waited 22 1/2 hours. Now I'm noticing that the bite handle needed to be loosened up a tiny bit. All's good as it appears, but I was wondering if I could've just applied some Tuf-Glide rather than doing the screw adjustment. Would Tuf-Glide mess with the Loctite?
I don't think lubricating would interact with the Loctite... the Loctite is inside on the screw threads and you would oil on the outside on the blade and beneath the handles. I oil my balis heavily at the pivots and never had a problem with my Loctite application. Worst case scenario you would just have to remove the screw in question and clean it and apply more Loctite again... but this would probably be unnecessary.
LOL, "blue shit dripin offa this" and "you can get the red shit" LMAO haha thats great, love your humor! I always try to loctite all of my pivots and what not. Still fun to watch your video, thanks for posting!

@TheCountrystuff13
It mainly depends on how tough you want it and what tasks it will be doing primarily.
The toughest ones would be some of the Cold Steels, but the Enduras have better blade steel... depends on what you're in the market for really.
