Awd drive and 4wd are two totally different systems.

@cXcon7 It's actually the same thing. They created the name AWD because people were getting confused with all the different types of 4WD systems.

I don't understand why it is so difficult to understand. Four Wheel Drive... cars have 4 wheels and if they all are the drive wheels.... then OMG 4WD. Don't matter if its mechanical, computer, Locked, real-time, full-time, or whatever the manufacturer calls it.

@nycmaster im not trying to be a dick. but they are in fact not the same. yes, all four wheels do have power in both applications but its not the same. a 4wd system consisted of 2 axles, 2 driveshafts, and a TRANSFER CASE. these 4 cylinder awd cars have one drive shaft (becasue they have a latitudinal engine w/transaxle for front) and no tranfer case. They also have no low range or high range via tranfer case gear multiplication. bottom line AWD and 4wd are not the same.
