  • I love the comment I heard on the video, "accept it and move on" but I know that's a huge leap for many people. How do you attain acceptance? I think a big part of the answer is shown in this video: creating forums for teenagers to discuss how they feel and having them brainstorm their own ideas for moving beyond the blockages to more freedom.

    Well done and thank you!

  • i wouldnt care if i were fat skinny, big nose or small nose long as u can function proberly, im missing an arm from an accident i strugle to open a jam jar while in the kitchen, and how do you think i feel like in public? but everyone has a sob story right?

  • well being fat is not good either.. you cannot play sports for long periods of time, you get tired from walking up stairs, you get heart disease, you may develop diabetes. people have got to be healthy, not thin.. HEALTHY

  • Yes raymond, maybe he should lose weight so you don't get heart disease :( i say that with love.

  • You know, I would bother saying again that there's no magic to losing weight. Commit to being in continuous motion for twenty minutes out of every twenty four hours and you won't be able to avoid losing weight. That's just how living organisms work.

But you'll tell me I'm wrong and stupid and crazy and all the other things you absolutely need to believe about how *I* lost a hundred pounds and kept it off (walking 20 minutes a day. Period.) in order to justify staying fat.

    Whatever. Your loss.

  • What's that joke: I'm one of the 80% of the people out there that is depressed, caused by the other 20% of you. A person can change for the better. If you don't like this world, change yourself. It is unfortunate that we are all judged, and we are. We can do a little soul searching and look in the mirror. If we don't like what we see, we can change. Do it subtly, keep a quiet smile to show yourself and others that you are content. Lift your shoulders, lengthen your spine. ; )

  • Dear WhiteFlower, Men are not depicted as sex objects to the media. Men are depicted as dominators and therefor there appearence is less in question. Men do deal with certain stigmas at a young age but women deal with self-esteem issues more likely all through life. Look at the statistics and do your research I promise you will be astounded.

  • Idiot clichés – ‘don’t listen to what other people think of you but just ‘do it’ and don’t worry about it’. Notice how these people are at least okay looking? They think of themselves as people who understand yet who have risen above their issues. Only they haven’t had their face burnt off or have a birthmark over 50% of their face, etc. This clap-trap utterly fails to appreciate that one’s INHERENT need to feel a sense of belonging and acceptance cannot be switched off with pep talks!

  • I like this video!

  • Everyone is meant for reproduction too...

  • another narcissistic wimyn's moan fest

  • the majority of people out there who are pretty while not meeting the ridiculous standards of the fashion industry. but there are people who are genuinely ugly. thats why i hate when people say "to have a self esteem you need to think you're beautiful no matter what anyone else thinks." because external beauty shouldn't matter at all, its something that shouldn't be noticed because we are beings of a higher intelligence and we can understand that an exterior means nothing

  • @adlitchman, Spot on. The 'beauty' industry is a sick, twisted joke that does NOTHING but make people invest importance into something they should not. It celebrates and rewards people for being LUCKY and, as a consequence, makes those who haven't been so lucky to stand out as 'not good enough'; and these lucky, 'golden' people pander to their own sense of 'beauty', flaunt themselves, sell themselves. Models disgust me.

  • Addendum: And I'm not a jealous 'ugly' person but someone who is considered 'good looking'.

  • I hate how people act like body image and self esteem is only a problem that girls have, there are plenty of anorexic and bulemic men and men who use steroids to live up to impossible body image standards.

  • How many? Not many.

    This is some funny shit.

  • Actually there are a lot of men who have had to struggle with body image issues. There are men who are anorexic, bulemic, etc. and who is any of this funny?

  • Not that many.

  • yeah I agree..everyone acts like girls are the only ones who hate the way they look:( and also, evrybody thinks that thin people don't feel bad about being skinny

  • @WhiteFlowerLei76 Dear WhiteFlower, Men are not depicted as sex objects to the media. Men are depicted as dominators and therefor there appearence is less in question. • @pelicansss Ever hear of Playgirl magazine?? Ever take a look at the most popular men in Hollywood and what they look like and how often they get attention because of their bodies and not their so called "talent". Men are just as vulnerable as women when it comes to body image and self esteem.

  • F#@#@ SELF ESTEEM>ITS HARD WORK!!!

  • That's all I need is a little encouragement and a knowing that at least somebody thinks I'm handsome or good-looking.

  • im gods greatest gift to humanity

i cant stress how awesome i am

  • a TEACHER told me i was fat today. well. incinuated it.

  • Same thing is probably happening to me too. I don't know if I'm taking it wrong or ,(I mean, I don't think I;m fat, and other people and family members have said I'm not "fat" but I'm skinny either, nor am I a plus size) but my theater professor seems to be insinuating that I'm "large" or "big" and now it's a real embarrassment because I'm the talk of the class now. It sucks, really hard.

  • r u serious what did the teacher say?

  • I hate the media for always picking out the "pretty" people. and telling people how you should dress. And Fashion is terrible too because average people dont have 1000$ to drop anytime. I am glad i never paid attention to media. I don't care what you think, I dont ever compare myself to anyone else, and i try encouraging others to stop thinking about how they look compared to XYZ.

    Words of Wisdom:

"Adjectives are only opinions, and do not matter" - Me

  • Good for you :)

It really is smart to never compare yourself (in either direction) to anyone else. It's counter-productive. You have a different mind, a different body, and a different past from anyone else, so what is the point in comparing?

  • I really hate my body. I don't really have too much fat, but my bone structure makes me look like an elephant... And when i hear all the skinny, beautiful girls at school talk about how fat THEY are, it hurts. Imo, there's too much pressure on children and teens today. And most of us will try to change it, but some of us (for example me) can't.

    ...And it sucks.

  • Bwahahahaha

  • Cofindent dont mean anything, because how people laugh at u or pick on u like me ive been pick on through middle school to highschool n still be laugh at, i dont talk to anyone at all even they try to talk to me just pretend to talk. i dont get invite to parties, dances, stuff like that so i dont really care, im mostly in my room all day playing video games or watchin dvds. never go out do anything. just stay quiet wat keeps my happy.

  • i know how you feel ha ha thats the same as me

  • Low self esteem is a major problem among youth. especially girls. This is why so many act out or turn to negative social behavior. Thank you for this video and please check out our Pretty Butterfly video. Peace.

  • i think its descusting how ppl juje others no 1 is perfect theres also a lot of shallow guys out there who onli go out with so called"pretty girls" shallow fucking dicks

  • This is a great video!! I put it on my blog today. Thanks :-)

  • I have a bit of a tummy. I feel ashamed about it and I hate it. I feel weird when I am around my boyfriend. If he's next to me, I hope he doesn't feel it and go "are you deformed or something?" I am happy with everything else, it's just my stomach that I hate.

  • im a guy and im little bit chubby and i like this girl and she likes me and were good friends she is 37 and im 23 but im afraid she wont take relation ship to the next level because im a little bit overweight but i excersise alot so im loosing weight so thats a start ive already lost 100 pounds from 420 to 335 the thing of is she is real skinny and im kinda overweight so whats your opinion

  • Does your boyfriend normally say things like that to you?

  • No. I guess I sometimes over-analyze things sometimes...

  • If he's not normally that much of an asshole, then yeah, I think you're over-reacting. A little bit-o chub never hurt anyone, and if you're truly worried that he'll make fun of you, you should find the right time and tell him about it, just so he's aware of your sensitivity. There's really nothing to be ashamed of, though. I'm what is considered to be obese, and I still like and take care of my body.

  • its hard to think good about my self when im chubby not fit... i try at stuff and fail... shy, no real social life

  • that doesnt matter......

    trust me just be confident!

  • Thank you for this video.

  • did you know around the william shakespere times men only wanted fat women or i should say bigger but whatev....

  • i have this mumbling problem when i'm talking & some of my classmates laugh at the way i mumble my words....

  • self esteem just pretend nobody else in the world exist. just joking

  • thank-you...

  • Self esteem is so important! I am doing an experiment in self esteem right now and anyone who wants to join in is welcome!

  • Your username shows that you care less about self esteem than perfection.

  • Thank you for posting this.

The problem is little fuckers that like to prance around putting others down just to satisfy themselves. At least that's in my case, especially since I actually am fat. Whatever.

I've tried all that I can at the moment.

  • I did notice though how funny it is that when I look at others who are supposed to be bigger than I am, I see beauty. I can't speak for everyone else, but I think that people distort their body image because they want their own sense of "freedom". They want to be able to feel like they can be beautiful in order to really make the other qualities about them blossom. For those extremely involved in low self esteem though, the issue then becomes the opposite.

  • @heynimrod888 only time i critisize fat people is when they are morbidly obese, which means theyre almost killing themselves, and its so unhealthy. NEVER DO I SAY SOMETHING TO THEIR FACE OR OTHERS but i think to myself that they need help

  • @heynimrod888

Most people who put people down are victims just them same.

  • personally i like myself,

  • how u feel about u is based on u, so if ur fat u betta, ur gonna feel shit, i hate all this denile crap

  • it sucks how some of us cant except our selves at times..any how thanks for sharing. =)

  • hmmm. This was interesting.

  • Thanks!

  • i had to shorten it a little since it was too long. Am open for question that might help me be more social so if u want more examples(more specific) than ask. This video helped a LITTLE i guess but i need advice from people who have a lot of self-esteem..

  • So if their are any advise on being social and not caring what your peers think of u in a personal matter than am plz tell me(this is for people who just speak up in class without thinking).Example of how i am, i go to school i MIGHT(don't want to admit it) need help in some math problems but am afraid to ask. People talk to me and i just get nervous and it sucks i talk without thinking(am all blanked out and talking like a zombie) making me feel stupid which am not...

  • Well,in my case its not about my body since...(well guys dont like to say that they are hot or stuff like that so i wont say it).Even though i have a great body like my hair too i have some issues if u want to say it that way.Well in my case am just quiet i anti social and people just make me uncomfortable to the point where i make myself look stupid thus making me lose my self esteem.

  • i stick up for the fat kid, it isnt healthy but that gives you no right to judge that guy

what would the world be if all people would be thin?

    right, a boring place....

again i dont say its healthy and obesitas is a serious problem, but there will always be people that are 'bigger' than others and thank god for that

and if people dont bother about make up or clothes, thats perfectly fine also.

  • thank god 4 fat people, r u retarded u idiot

  • Wtf? I know that comment is a year old but did you honestly say

"what would the world be if all people would be thin? right, a boring place..."

What the hell lol? What.. do you enjoy when they walk around and their fat jumps for joy or what? They entertain you? I don't have anything against fat people but that was a ridiculous statement.

  • ...

    who cares, really? lol...

    x]]

  • what the hell do you mean "who cares"? lol

that was retarded to say, so retarded it was quite funny. i dont really care. i just wanted to point it out.

  • I meant who cares what anyone says or thinks about you... >.>

Do you have to be a bitch about it? =)

  • you're making no sense

i was mearly pointing out that what he said was hilarious. and not in the "im laughing with you" way, but in the "im laughing at you" way. i never once said anything about people thinking this or that about anyone, so wtf are you talking about ;/

  • That kid who told us how his classmates say that he should lose weight... Well did you hear him trying to catch his breath after every sentence? After every fifth word? Yeah...

  • lose wieght ...thats something u can do. if u dont try to do that then why the fuck are you on film complaining about low self esteem?

  • There's a middle somewhere... and most great women i know are at it... They take good care of themselves, put on light make-up, here and there, and take good care of their skin and hair... But that's it, no obsessions...

What these women tend to do, is make video as justifications for being 50 pounds overweight and not even combing their hair, or bothering to pick decent clothes.

  • I don't like extremes... I LOVE These clips since they make a great point... which is that the media portrays silly artificial standards of beatuy, where a girl spends 5 hours a day putting on makeup...

But then what these guys do is go to the other extreme... they make it alright for women (and men) to be slobs...

  • I think it's really great that there are boys and girls in this film. People seem to forget that boys have issues too.

  • absolutely. human beings have issues. i guess that guys were taught (by society and tradition)not to express their pain. but they feel pain too, so why should they be prohibited to show their feelings?

  • Thank you. :)

  • that was really good
