  • Hey look a squirrel! 5:15

  • If providing placebo is doing something, then I'd prefer going to a party or a rock gig. I'd feel better, maybe cure myself just by feeling positive, but I wouldn't be deceived in any moment.

  • If nothing else, I have enjoyed watching this just to see Dawkins subject himself to all these wacky practices.

  • David Icke was right, lizard people are amongst us 5:48

  • this man has no clue about ayurveda, and tries attacking it. what a fool

  • @ 5:50 SQUIRREL!!!! lol

  • Does it look like she's trying to send out some 'rescue me' signals to somebody when she licks like that? It's just too weird.

  • hahaha i love how he loses interest and watches a squirrel at 5:14 :P

  • Also, they prescribe antibiotics needlessly ALL the time, when a bit of time will take care of it. I read an article recently that said that the majority of the antibiotics prescribed are not even the right ones! They do not inform patients of potentially harmful side effects. One has to go home and do the research themselves. But alas, many people just mindlessly follow the almighty Doctor's orders, when being aware, asking questions, and following instincts are often what are most needed.

  • I'm with Dawkins, but I find it a bit perturbing that he doesn't address how broken the medical system is, especially in the States. Research funding on drugs here is increasingly funded by the Big Pharma companies, which pay scientists to reach desired conclusions about drugs. How many drugs have been approved and then taken off the market after concluding that they are more harm than good. Doctors here are Rx happy. They want to write you a prescription and send you off!

  • WTF is that woman doing at 6 minutes?! What's wrong with her mouth?

Also Ayurveda is nonsense, and their diets will just make you weak.

  • the music at the end is awesome.

  • I think Nicholas Humphrey makes the most relevant points regarding this subject.

  • "Well your leg is rather puffy isn't it."

    "Its always like that."

Say what you will but at least the superstitious are an entertaining lot.

  • I want to know Dawkin's opinion on acupunture

  • he mentions it earlier, it's placebo just like everything else

  • then hes most likely not a reasonable fellow

  • There is a point, however, that should be made: most doctors don't give their patients what they need. They are impersonal, they diagnose in the least time possible and they prescribe a medicine. Good bye, until next time.

Any doctor in a small city knows that this is not enough, which is more or less self-evident.

And that is what creates the open to "alternative healers" that give their "patients" what the doctor didn't give them and is effectively part of the cure.

  • @fernbap That is exactly what I think, it's not medicine what's failing, it's the professionals who don't pay the needed attention what drives some people to seek healing in this alternative medicine, thinking that actual medicine didn't help them when it's not medicine's problem at all, it's the doctors not paying attention to pacient's simptoms.

Obviously this is caused by the extremely bad driven economic model, but that's another extensive issue...

  • those treatments seem very relaxing, it gave me fuzzy wuzzy feelings.

  • I agree. That's the reason why people go for more treatments. It comes with more then just a placebo effect. Although they would just be better off with something more honest. Like a massage.

  • these kind of treatments have no effect in the medical world but can it do any good in the psychological world ? you know, helping suicidal people?

these placebo effects can be useful for once....

  • LOL did you see richard tracking the squirrel at 5:13 ? hilarious!

  • 'Dawkins Eye Cam'?

  • LOOOL that was funny as hell, wtf:))))

  • LOL. Beware The squirrel!! LOL ha ha ha.

  • the way that woman moves her tongue around..she reminds me of Jabba the Hutt

  • that woman is the joker! look at her licking those lips... she could fill in for heath ledger

  • "and you better hope there's intelligent life somewhere up in space cos there's bugger all down here on Earth"

  • Who is doing this research?

How is Ayurveda any different then homeopathy?

Garlic is only said to reduce the risk of catching a common cold.

And I'm sure Prof. Dawkins knows the benefits of stretching. :)

  • Actually I totally agree with Prof Dawkins..Ayurveda is primitive form of medicine with its primitive methods but these celeb charlatans like Deepak Chopra mix Ancient medicine with modern quantum jargon and bring disgrace to both fields. I only respect Ayurveda in its original form...it does not mean if I have to have a cataract surgery now I will do it in ayurvedic way..and please dont compare ayurveda to homeopathy..do some original research.

  • ok :)

But correct me if I'm wrong. Doesn't Ayurveda assume there are only four basic elements? Fire, wind, earth and water.

  • i notice you didnt receive a reply for this...

  • @urantivirus

It wasn't only Ayurveda that assumed the 4 elements, even Aristotle assumed it that way. It is an ancient form of science that uses herbs and derives medicine from raw nature. But, the Con artists are just fucking up original practices with idiotically.

  • Its called alternative because its not good or effective enough to be incorporated into normal medicin.

  • Ayuveda - No proper trials? Thats a shocker...

  • 5:34

    WTF? stop being a lizard

  • hahahaha

  • what I miss is the fact that via meditaion , relaxation and breathink SCIENCE noticed the warmth and health of human bodies can approve dramatically. this is not mentioned, ruining the alternate methods a bit too one sided I think. oh and "ayuveda" in india is completely different ^^ you cant treat breathing with chemicals. you can use SAVE brain own chemicals in some things via meditation, and there is a growing sceince looking at that, as it offers many potential secrets about the brain.

  • Good video.

  • Right thats it.....RICHARD DAWKINS FOR PRIMEMINISTER

  • Cheers to Richard Dawkins!

  • Dawkins FTW! and what was with the wacky ending music?

  • what the fuck is with the licking?!

  • She had desert mouth form smoken a splif off camera, she needed a glass of water LOL

  • She may have wanted a piece of the good ol'Doctor :)

  • she looks terrified and the fear is drying her mouth

    and for good reason

her answers were weak and she's probably making a lot of money

she knew she was on shaky ground but perhaps felt she couldn't refuse to appear for fear of it looking like an admission of guilt

  • darwin rocks!!!

i am waiting for his next book!!!

  • I'm pretty sure you mean Dawkins.

  • you'll be waiting for some time then, dude :P

  • oops sorry!!!

    i meant dawkins!!!

hes working on his new book which will unveil some of the most believable myths around the world!!!!

  • a very very long time.

  • Instead of blood leaches he should have used blood letting. Leaches are actually used in modern medicine.

  • What i dont get is why this comment is thumbed down?

Leeches are indeed used in mordern medical treatments.

  • that weird licking is freaks me out!

  • Freaked us out too.

  • Love to see Richard attacking non-religious enemies of reason for a change. I think this really ads to his credibility. Gotta admire the man's passion.

  • Indeed, he is very facinating, i would love to read his books.

  • go fucking read them then charginmahlob!

  • Thanks for posting!
