@hagertyjim trying to copy ipad and iOS with so laggy results :( would be alot better if android was designed from the ground up and not the other way around. From a consumer standpoint, the Xoom and the iPad2 are similar. It isn't a matter of whether the software is slow, etc. Because all devices--even mighty Apple--experiences periods of slowness and problems. I haven't seen an electronic device that hasn't. I will say this: If you the customization and ability to move around in different places, Android is for you. The only thing I don't like is the openness of Android. Other than that, it is more advanced. Better? You decide.
Excellent comparison. How about Magazine subscriptions? and student oriented apps? Im not crazy about the Ipad. I like the Xoom but worry about delayed updates like smartphones suffer from. I own a Google Nexus S but since there isn't a Nexus tablet around, Im always hesitant to purchase a non Google specific tablet. Also, how does Motorola treat updates? Ive heard horror stories with Samsung. and will it get 4.0? thanks again!
@kenw30 Motorola, now a part of Google, has just released a follow up to the Xoom, the XYBoard, which we also have a review on this channel. The Xoom had some lag on updates including the update that supports the expansion slot. The new XYBoard will probably one of the first to get 4.0 ICS update.
@TonyAirlines There are more now, we made this video 6 months ago. Not everything on the Android Market works on Honeycomb, but a lot more now compared to back then. You can also run Android phone app now if you have the latest Honeycomb version.
I had an ipad 1 and 2, as soon as the xoom came out and I played with it in verizon for several hours, I ended up purchasing it going home and putting my ipad on Craigslist... bye bye ipad hello Xoom...
the only thing xoom wins is the customized homepage, 4g and flash but on other things I think Ipad 2 wins, Ipad2 is faster especially when u try to rotate the screen.... and Ipad 2 is really responsive...(all of these are only my opinions)

Why would Apple release an interim version of the iPad instead of including better resolution screen (Retina?), usable camera, stereo speakers and better battery life (took almost 24 hours for my iPad 2 64GB WiFi +3G to recharge to 100%). It is really unfair to consumers, they should have released later and with better functionality instead of making us purchase a 3GS-like device. Just my $.02 worth.
The gaming thing is not that true, because as you can see, the samurai game lagged at iPad 2 and dident on xoom, obviously you have a lot more aplications on apple store, because it is older than the android market, but i think market will be better then app store in a year.
So, final conclusion:
Apple iPad is the cutest one, but if you want to do anything else then stare at your device, BUY A XOOM!

I don't know what you mean when you say, "the xoom is more for gaming than the iPad", but according to hardware and performance benchmarks, the iPad's GPU is much, much faster than the xoom's GPU by at least 50%. Granted, the xoom has 30 odd percent more pixels, but if the iPad had the same resolution, it would still theoretically be faster.
xoom is way better! i meen overall i pad only wins in 1 way and thats the screen brightness, which really is nothing i pad is just a basic boring device terrible cam bad video cam reception, has more apps but android will definately catch up and soon be in the lead again as far as tabs go, ipad 2 definately lagged way more when she was playing that game, which was pointed out O.o im definately gonna get the xoom over the ipad its just better in many ways not to forget the freedom to customize!

Id just like to say motorola did screw up with the camera but thats because of the anti scratch lens window. Its not the camera its just the window. take out the window and your colors wont be washed out they will be better then the ipad 2 photos. But who cares about photos when you can emulate n64 and ps1 and more. Play games like zelda, smash bors, and many more or on the ps1 metal gear solid, final fantasy and also many other games. Easy way to root the xoom(unlock)

I had the xoom for 2 months. I'm a big fan of Android but I also have Mac Mini desktop, so I also appreciate Apple. I swapped my Xoom for an iPad 2 yesterday, not a easy decision but definitely the right one. The Xoom is heavy, clunky, has a poor quality screen (watch something like Toy Story on both and you can see the difference with ease) and just isn't that great. Honeycomb is buggy and half baked, I was so disappointed with the whole experience.
It pisses me off that Android hasn't made a fucking decent note taking app. It's a god Damn tablet its supposed to replace a notebook not be a high def gameboy.
I need to buy a tab for school and I want to get the xoom simply because 3.0 looks a lot better than ios and it has much better hardware but two equally important things are that ios has itunes for music and movies and I don't think Android has a dedicated media store and Android does not have an app like notes plus that is the damn deal breaker as much as i don't want to be an Apple bitch I am forced to because Android has no apps in comparison.

I've been agonizing over this decision for weeks now. I finally managed to get a hand's on demo of both these units myself recently. First let me qualify I have no experience with Android or iOS and have never owned an Apple product in my life.
I've got to say, the iPad 2 just felt right to me, it was nicer to hold and the screen seemed much clearer, brighter and more responsive. But really when it comes down to it, it's the App selection. Android simply cannot compete at this time.
@AlaCarcuss That's true, I'm not biased with any product, I think iPad 2 or Xoom is just as good as any other tablet. But Apple does count with more than 65,000 apps, and Android isn't by any mean near that quantity yet :/

@pattycarljackson Useful at all? Maybe you're researching the wrong way. Exactly what apps did you look for? If you looked for games, then OBVIOUSLY they are useful only for entertainment. If you looked for apps like, Evernote, iWork, DocsToGo, those are all for working and business apps. They are guaranteed to work. Maybe the people you know had their iDevices jailbroken which in fact does contribute to apps not working. And gaming on iDevices isn't crap.
xoom is better, but the toutch screen in apple is still better. I don't know why android never gets the quality of the toutch of apple devices! I'm realy fan of android, but apple have better toutch screen response always!
@andeciuala Apple revolutionized touch screens. First smart phone to ever work without stylus if I'm not mistaken. And since they've managed to develop such technology first (not mentioning touch screen technology since it was Palm that did and not Apple), they have had the advantage to make the touch experience, much more responsive and smoother than any other produt out there.
I think there both great tablets.I like iPad2 because it has a brighter screen which is a very nice feature.When scrolling trough there home pages I found that the Xoom is a bit slower/laggy than the iPad which was responsive.The iPad's cameras do suck.I really prefer the Xoom's camera's.Now the other thing about Xoom that I really liked is the ports which are very very useful.Not like iPad where you have to buy em separately.I really love that the iPad is thinner + more apps.For me its iPad.

That's wrong. iPad 2 has ~1MP rear camera. HD video requires 921,600 pixels, which is more than 0.7MP. Still doesn't matter much though, but it was wrong.
This is unbelievable. Last week i got this link ipad2reward (dot) info from my friend. Normally i don't believe any of this shit. Just participate in some kind of iPad2 Test program and get iPad2 for free. The word "Free" doesn't really exist in this world. The day after i tried give my email their and joined the program. And you know what! A Brand New iPad2 is in my hand now. I can't really believe this. And you don't have to believe me. But 3 friends of mine even got that thing before me.

I would choose the Motorola Xoom because there is a FLASH App and Apple doesnt have Flash *like always*. And you can download apps on the Motorola that download free music and download album covers. and you can save the videos from the web and the ipad cant!

This is a great video. The xoom is a very nice tablet. I used Iphone and Android phone. The android operating system allows for so much more usability and access to so many more types of files. The Ipad on the other hand has a wonderful screen 'pop' , and I cannot for the life of me find a comparable word processor to pages on Android. My vote, very regretfully, goes to the ipad. :(
xoom is much better and for one price u already have a Wi-fi and 32GB memory which is much cheaper that the same version of the Ipad, i'm not saying that the ipad is bad cos its not, its a very good device with lots of support and apps but Xoom is... well... cheaper, it has more RAM has a card slot and HDMI and Mini-USB, so if this device is gonna get the love it deserves and is gonna be well supported for the few next years this could be the device i will buy

@neoarcadezr Still, loads of the Ipad apps are just resized versions of the Iphone ones. And as Android does a much better job in resizing in the first place, the difference is not that memorable. I know Steve said it and you must believe him (because you cannot help it), but there are many more apps that run on the Xoom, and many of the ones I found not to be working when the Xoom came out have now been updated to run just perfect.

xoom is way better! i meen overall i pad only wins in 1 way and thats the screen brightness, which really is nothing i pad is just a basic boring device terrible cam bad video cam reception, has more apps but android will definately catch up and soon be in the lead again as far as tabs go, ipad 2 definately lagged way more when she was playing that game, which was pointed out O.o im definately gonna get the xoom over the ipad its just better in many ways not to forget the freedom to customize!

Id just like to say motorola did screw up with the camera but thats because of the anti scratch lens window. Its not the camera its just the window. take out the window and your colors wont be washed out they will be better then the ipad 2 photos. But who cares about photos when you can emulate n64 and ps1 and more. Play games like zelda, smash bors, and many more or on the ps1 metal gear solid, final fantasy and also many other games. Easy way to root the xoom(unlock)

I had the xoom for 2 months. I'm a big fan of Android but I also have Mac Mini desktop, so I also appreciate Apple. I swapped my Xoom for an iPad 2 yesterday, not a easy decision but definitely the right one. The Xoom is heavy, clunky, has a poor quality screen (watch something like Toy Story on both and you can see the difference with ease) and just isn't that great. Honeycomb is buggy and half baked, I was so disappointed with the whole experience.

I need to buy a tab for school and I want to get the xoom simply because 3.0 looks a lot better than ios and it has much better hardware but two equally important things are that ios has itunes for music and movies and I don't think Android has a dedicated media store and Android does not have an app like notes plus that is the damn deal breaker as much as i don't want to be an Apple bitch I am forced to because Android has no apps in comparison.

I've been agonizing over this decision for weeks now. I finally managed to get a hand's on demo of both these units myself recently. First let me qualify I have no experience with Android or iOS and have never owned an Apple product in my life.
I've got to say, the iPad 2 just felt right to me, it was nicer to hold and the screen seemed much clearer, brighter and more responsive. But really when it comes down to it, it's the App selection. Android simply cannot compete at this time.

@AlaCarcuss That's true, I'm not biased with any product, I think iPad 2 or Xoom is just as good as any other tablet. But Apple does count with more than 65,000 apps, and Android isn't by any mean near that quantity yet :/

@pattycarljackson Useful at all? Maybe you're researching the wrong way. Exactly what apps did you look for? If you looked for games, then OBVIOUSLY they are useful only for entertainment. If you looked for apps like, Evernote, iWork, DocsToGo, those are all for working and business apps. They are guaranteed to work. Maybe the people you know had their iDevices jailbroken which in fact does contribute to apps not working. And gaming on iDevices isn't crap.

@andeciuala Apple revolutionized touch screens. First smart phone to ever work without stylus if I'm not mistaken. And since they've managed to develop such technology first (not mentioning touch screen technology since it was Palm that did and not Apple), they have had the advantage to make the touch experience, much more responsive and smoother than any other produt out there.

I think there both great tablets.I like iPad2 because it has a brighter screen which is a very nice feature.When scrolling trough there home pages I found that the Xoom is a bit slower/laggy than the iPad which was responsive.The iPad's cameras do suck.I really prefer the Xoom's camera's.Now the other thing about Xoom that I really liked is the ports which are very very useful.Not like iPad where you have to buy em separately.I really love that the iPad is thinner + more apps.For me its iPad.

That's wrong. iPad 2 has ~1MP rear camera. HD video requires 921,600 pixels, which is more than 0.7MP. Still doesn't matter much though, but it was wrong.

This is unbelievable. Last week i got this link ipad2reward (dot) info from my friend. Normally i don't believe any of this shit. Just participate in some kind of iPad2 Test program and get iPad2 for free. The word "Free" doesn't really exist in this world. The day after i tried give my email their and joined the program. And you know what! A Brand New iPad2 is in my hand now. I can't really believe this. And you don't have to believe me. But 3 friends of mine even got that thing before me.

I would choose the Motorola Xoom because there is a FLASH App and Apple doesnt have Flash *like always*. And you can download apps on the Motorola that download free music and download album covers. and you can save the videos from the web and the ipad cant!

This is a great video. The xoom is a very nice tablet. I used Iphone and Android phone. The android operating system allows for so much more usability and access to so many more types of files. The Ipad on the other hand has a wonderful screen 'pop' , and I cannot for the life of me find a comparable word processor to pages on Android. My vote, very regretfully, goes to the ipad. :(

xoom is much better and for one price u already have a Wi-fi and 32GB memory which is much cheaper that the same version of the Ipad, i'm not saying that the ipad is bad cos its not, its a very good device with lots of support and apps but Xoom is... well... cheaper, it has more RAM has a card slot and HDMI and Mini-USB, so if this device is gonna get the love it deserves and is gonna be well supported for the few next years this could be the device i will buy

@neoarcadezr Still, loads of the Ipad apps are just resized versions of the Iphone ones. And as Android does a much better job in resizing in the first place, the difference is not that memorable. I know Steve said it and you must believe him (because you cannot help it), but there are many more apps that run on the Xoom, and many of the ones I found not to be working when the Xoom came out have now been updated to run just perfect.
