@ NotOfThisWorld567 If you're going to call someone a liar, have the facts to support your assertion. And that sense of superior morality you get when you tell someone the "May our LORD God bless you and may the spirit of peace replace the lies you seem to be embracing" comes out like a backhand thinly veiled as compassion and is revolting.
@DiscoveringReligion Based on how you speak to your fellow man it suggests to me that you are not as nice of a person as you claim to be. Perhaps all the lies you have embraced in your heart are controlling your thoughts as well? It is a good feeling when we lie to ourselves and say we have things all figured out, when we struggle with the truth however we must look outside of our own little shells. May our LORD God bless you and may the spirit of peace replace the lies you seem to be embracing.
@phantomwolf2 Yeah humans are so awesome we made ourselves too right? Where is the logic in what you claim. Humans help humans...are you living on the same planet as me? Lets see what humans bring forth...war, murder, politics, division, slavery, superiority, destruction. Jesus died for us because people think THEY have all the answers. The smartest thing God ever created was his angel Lucifer. Humans create one thing...problems. Christ creates Christians, and through Christ there are solutions.
Is the narrator of this video attempting to discredit Christianity as a whole based solely through the hypocrites who have abused the laws of Christ and chose to not follow them, or attempt to profit from them? Based on this flawed logic, the following would be true. Because NASA scientists claimed Pluto was a planet and now it is "proven" not to be, no stars exist. FYI narrator, the term Christianity as Jefferson used it pertains to the flaws of organized religion which is run by man not Jesus.
simple answer to everything here: The punishment for sin before Jesus's death was told to be death, for it was written that sin were to be punishable by death. But since Jesus's blood has been shed for you and that's why you no longer must perform animal sacrificed to pay for your sin.
i am amazed by this series of videos you have made. perhaps there truly is a way for humanity to shrug of this virus known as religion. i would never want to live in a world ruled by any religion. and would do everything within my abilities and power as a single person and human to change that. otherwise i would not desire to live any longer, it is humans not a deity who decide the future of other humans, watching these videos has made me ever stronger in that conviction.
If there's one God- known as Yahweh, the one who created our world, the one who created us- why are we worshiping Christ? Why would God send his son to die for our sins?
Unfortunately, I think you can draw both sides from the bible by using random quotes. The sides being whether to follow the old testament laws or not.
Without greater context of these quotes that you pulled, I cant really confirm or deny what you are purporting. I just know that when I grew up I was taught that the old laws were pretty much wiped out except for the 10 commandments (or something like that).
I hate bible quotes. They can be used to say practically anything.
start memorisng its precepts and putting forth efforts to obey it because you are ALREADY obeying it in your heart. If I have divine love in my heart I will not even desire to take my Lord's name in vain, fornicate my neighbour's wife, kill, covet, cheat, lie, steal etc. Love, divine love, received into the heart expressed in outward behaviour fulfills God's work for the saints. .
Romans 3:21 But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. God writes His laws there implanting spiritual motivations that change the heart and are manifested in the outward fruits of the Spirit which are summed up in DIVINE LOVE. Now when that happens you don't need to go trotting back to old covenant law,
Many are essentially teaching that the Holy Spirit is impotent--incapable of producing this righteousness FOR US and IN US and therefore we must resort to observing law instead. Paul taught that righteousness does NOT come from obeying external laws but comes from obeying the internal law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus working in our hearts (Rom. 8:2) That's why he described it as a righteousness apart from law. Romans 3:21
The Gospel is not about obedience to the ten commandment law written on stone it is about a righteousness that is received into the heart by God's gift of grace in response to faith (the obedience of faith). This cuts out imperfect human works. Grace brings us into complete harmony with the perfect righteousness that is demanded by law forensically and subjectively.
excellent video, its everything wrong with the cristian faith. Hey, i read in ep6 you were planning on doing a vid on the similiarities between sumerian text vs bible, can't wait for it!!!!
Hello :) I, the creator (not God, but of this series... haha), am still producing videos. Right now I have a lot of personal obligations and I cannot devote much time to writing and producing more episodes. But I have many ideas in the works and I dont plan to stop making videos any time soon.
@DiscoveringReligion keep it up man, you really know your stuff. its both helpfull and entertaining, i was so lucky to find these videos when i was searching, i came across some of the most biased and stupid videos put out by the other side. and it was very refreshing to see a very scientiffic layout of the facts.
Woa... wait a minute. 00:49 verse 11 -- If a man sleeps with his father's wife???? YOU MEAN HIS MOM? Dude WTF? That's some creep as shit dude. Yo dad, mom's looking good today.
I started doing some research on religion a while back . I had doubts anyway . Little duff I know that I would find more that I could possibly even digest in a month .....
You who writes about Fatima and answering to Christ, how can you be so judgmental? There is no evidence for Jesus being the redeemer/god. Such beliefs in prophets and holy books are a disgrace to the human race. Expand your mind; ditch your Bible.
When you die and Christ asks you, "Who do you say that I am?"
You should answer, "GOD."
If you call Christ the "son of the Lord, a talking Fire" from the story of the OT created by the same crowd that crucified Him, you will have an eternity to study the consequences of heresy in Hell with the men who entered the Masonic Lodge dressed as heretics (Freemasons). But don't worry, the Mother of God released the Third Secret of Fatima and the punishment is imminent.
@fatimamovement Do you even know the name of your god? You know it's not just GOD right? He does have a name, yet most christians today do not even know what it is. I'm not going to tell you because i'm devious. muhahaha
I've watched 17 episodes of this and I've yet to see a discussion of most of the Gods that appear in the opening sequence e.g. Thor, Krishna. Please rename this "My Personal Rant against Christianity". I'm an atheist and I appreciate the hard work it takes to make this, however, it is fundamentally dishonest to call this Discovering Religion.
@dionysius09 Why would a god care about what some living (by accident) creatures on one small planet in a huge cosmos do or don't do. That makes no sense and there's not a shred of evidence to support such a claim. Is there a deity? I don't know, I don't think so, but I know christianity is BS.
You seem like an intelligent person. So why do you waste your time, coming up with logical explanations for the ramblings in an ancient book that seems to have been written with no regards for logic. Apohenia I think that's called.
@dionysius09 What exactly is YOUR sin? Why are you paying for apparently committing some kind of sin even though you couldn't possibly have committed any before you were born? Why is God angry at all of mankind for our sin if the only people who committed the original sin were Adam and Eve? It makes no sense. I don't see why modern-day people are still paying for the sins of Adam and Eve since we couldn't have committed any sins before being born. Being born is a sin? God must be REALLY petty.
@dionysius09 You are truly brainswashed (like many Americans). Please watch some more atheist videos, you will soon see that christianity makes no sense whatsoever.
"The law was given to show us our need for a Savior." The Law is in place to instruct us on HOW to be righteous. Jesus lived according to The Law and instructed us to do the same. "...Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments...will be called least in the kingdom of heaven…" (Matthew 5:17, 19). How did Adam and Eve know not to eat from the Tree? God told them! How do you know what is moral? God tells us through Mosaic LAW!
Nowhere did I talk about works. Being moral and abiding by The Law is not "a work" or some sort of charity. You are following God moral Laws because that is the path of righteousness! Your love for Christ might "prompt" you to live a moral life, but how do you even KNOW what is moral if not for The Law and Christ's teachings, which explicitly instructs us to FOLLOW THE LAW. I already gave many examples, watch from 9:21 where Jesus references Moses to lend credibility to his own message.
@DiscoveringReligion Enough of this, the man's trying in vain teaching the christian doctrine you think you know but have no knowledge at all about. I know that seemingly arrogant comment warrents venom but come on, Christ did not abolish the law, yes. Now, we are all sinners, from the smallest offence because of Adam and Eve, and sin deserves death and Hell, hence the death penalties dealed out. Now understand Christ's purpose; to redeem us of sin and thus death which we so deserve.
You said yourself that He was the perfect sin sacrifice, since He cleansed us of ALL sins by His own death, why would we be killed for one of them anymore? God wanted to abolish sin's result for good. Our debts and crimes are forgiven and paid in Him! You see, Christ had not abolished the Law but the death penalty and the threat of Hell, the latter, at least for the believers who acknowledge the sacrifice. Christ's death had forgiven all offences aganst The Most High.
If God has forgiven us of all offenses through Christ's FINAL sacrifice, then we are pardoned and God doesn't have to put us through the death penalty for ANY offense. He, in the long run, has saved the christians from Hell. We are all sinners, deserving of death and Hell but Christ saved us, without acknowledging and accepting His sacrifice, we will get that penalty in the next world if not this world.
According to the Bible, death was never apart of life. Death only became a reality due to Adam's sin. If, as you say, "God wanted to abolish sin's result for good" why do human beings still die? You claim "Christ had not abolished the Law but the death penalty..." So why does God continue to enforce His "curse of death" if we've truly been forgiven? Furthermore, the Bible never claims Jesus abolished "capital punishment" -- but don't tell the religious Right who support such laws.
@DiscoveringReligion the "deaths" I was referring to were death penalty and Hell. But to answer your question, I confess that how I had worded my argument left me to be sniped in that position; abolishing and redeeming sin are truly two different things indeed. The ultimate result of sin was death and Hell, with physical death being linked to sin on the basis that God had wanted to end human life because of the knowledge they had gained from their sin. Sin was never destroyed but forgiven.
Indeed, we are all still sinners. Even people who don't believe in the theological concept of sin can't say they haven't commited something considered to be a moral vice at least once a day, it's ingrained in human nature and thus death is, so you are right and in idiotically wording my argument I stand corrected. The effects of sin were never destroyed in the literal sense, but for the believer they are pardoned for their offenses against God and the final death of Hell.
Finally, if not stated before, God never mentioned the abolishment of death penalty but since all sins have been pardoned by Christ, Christians do not conform to this on the basis that since sin was forgiven by one sacrificial death on a cross all the offences of humanity are then pardoned including these in the OT, all one has to do now is believe in Christ or die in his sins. All one has to do to conclude death penalty has become null and void is realize that our sins are pardoned by Him.
But if hell is eternal torment then there really is no "final death", so it follows that death is not the penalty of sin but eternal torment. (unless you believe in annihilationist doctrine).
How do we even know what is righteous if not by the Law told in the OT and by Jesus' clear teachings to strictly abide by the OT laws (as I have already cited in my video). Do we not need to follow the Ten Commandments? The Bible explicitly states that a mere BELIEF in Christ is not enough to be considered righteous. I might accept Christ into my heart, but I must still live a moral life according to the Law. How can one sin by breaking The Law if no laws even exist?
Thanks for the comment. I have studied the Bible in detail and this video is just a precursor to the main points I make is episode 19. Christ did not abolish The Law, he both fulfilled AND reinforced The Law. Therefore, if the Mosaic laws on morality must be adhered to in order to correctly follow the teachings of Christ and walk the path of righteousness, then there can be no "cherry picking" or compromise in how we must follow the OT laws. The Law is The LAW. Please watch ep 19.
thank you so much, this video really cleared up in my mind, or at least add significantly, as to why Jesus Christ had to die. Only in the light of the sacrifices of the Old Testament, does the sacrifice of the body of Christ, and references like 'Lamb of God' makes sense.
There is big difference between Christianity and Judaism.
primary idea of Christianity if that Jesus can just erase all your sins. Even if all old laws are still valid you are free to ignore them, because you are forgiven anyway.
Only problem that officially remains is that you must be sure to ask forgiveness after your last sin and before death.
It seems that people always complain how Christianity is given more attention that any other religion, and then they play ignorant to how that could be. Are they retarded? One, there is only one other religion that is trying to take over the world and its is talked about as well. Two, Christianity is the most predominant religion in the US, which is where most videos like this are made. So, duh, of course it's going to be talked about the most.
Wonder how many religious authorities snuck up to the alter, stole the offering, went home and ate it! After all the food would have been cooked to the order of the authorities. Sneaky little devils! It would be like us proselytizing a group of nonbelievers to convert, then tell them that "the Lord" demand and offering of steak, potato, corn, biscuits, and blueberry pie, and it needs to be cooked like so! Mmmm that steak dinner was GOOD!! Now I need a tooth pick! :-)
a christian refuse to believed that jesus advocated following old testament laws to his followers by saying that jesus himself did not practice old testament laws, such as sacrificing animals, killing people if they work on the sabbath, etc. Does anyone know how I can refute this argument?
@ThatGuyWhoSucksBoobz That doesn't change what he said following those verses. Show them Jeremiah 31:30-33 and Romans 3:31, make the idiots feel uncomfortable.
@HybridD91 aren't those contradictory? Jeremiah states that god will make a new covenant and that they will no longer have to follow the covenant he made when he took them out of egypt. and romans states the opposite. goddamn, the bible contradicts itself so much that I can't tell if it really wants its followers to obey OT laws or not.
@ThatGuyWhoSucksBoobz Actually Jeremiah 31:33 makes the law unavoidable because it says he will put his law into their hearts and minds. You can check the cross reference to "law" if you have a Bible close by. The Bible can't even agree on how many animals went on the Ark, chapter six was two of every animal. Chapter seven says seven of every animal.
yeah,, its a pick and choose religion,, you know kinda like a choose ur own adventure book... lesson learned,,, god likes salt,, that makes two of us, also if god likes salt does satan like sugar,, ebony and ivory, oh shit, does that make satan black??? and satan looks pretty fit in that arm wrestling shot,, i'm pretty sure ufc satan would kick the shit outta hippy jesus,, but hippy jesus is prolly a lot more fun to hang out with,, to bad jesus isn't real, he'd be hella cool to party with
(cont.) Now, Deut. 5 lists the more familiar rules as the 10 Commandments, but this seems to me to be a form of back-pedaling, as the very authoritative phrase 'Ten Commandments' described an irrelevant list with no moral injunctions against murder, theft, or lying, and so the phrase seems to have been reassigned to rules deemed more worthy of the title. That's a shame, "You shall not boil a young goat in its mother's milk." would look sooo good on a plaque in a courthouse, wouldn't it?
Top notch again, A.Z.! One of my favorite discoveries in reading the OT: The 10 Commandments are not the ones we are familiar with at all. In God's testimony to Moses, the injunctions we know of as the 10 Comms. are listed in Exodus 20, in the middle of a very long-winded diatribe and are never named as such. Exo. 34, however starts with God stating the creation of a covenant, then lists 10 rules of worship and sacrifice, which Moses immediately puts down onto tablets as the "Ten Commandments".
"Have their cake, and eat it, too." Do you mean hypocrisy? I can't understand why you're handling Christians with kid gloves. They ARE trying to legislate their morality.
Their morality. Which of the prophets said "These laws to remain in force only as long as they remain relevant. Choose your own when they no longer apply."
I'm enjoying your series. I'm curious to know if you're making any converts. There won't be many until you can get them past their fear of death and wishful thinking.
As always another great addition to the series. Although, I do agree with another poster regarding the mosaic laws. In modern day scholarship the very existence of Moses is in question, not to mention that as a result his authorship of the Pentateuch is also in doubt. It is believed that there are several authors and Moses is not among those.
I'm impressed with your videos, they're perfectly finished and well prepared. I was just wondering if you're gonna cover other religions in this cycle?
When you talk about the books written by Moses, you should use words like "allegedly" or "supposedly". Most scholars accept the Documentary Hypothesis.
For simplicity sake I just reference the book with the "alleged" author, but yes, no one really know who even wrote the Bible, including most of the books in the New Testament. There are many different writing styles, different usage of grammar and syntax, as well as parables that just plain don't appear until hundreds of years after the earliest known manuscripts were first produced. The Bible is an utter nightmare of conflicting authors -- but that's another series unto itself.
Great series DR. Are you going to cover any other faiths around the world? Anyway, I've always felt the Bible should be interpreted through study and meditation thus allowing one to establish a deeper degree of understanding. People who use its laws out of context and live by them are ignorant. Some of the things that were relevant thousands of years ago simply don't apply today, however there are still powerful truths within the Bible. Many of Jesus' teachings for example.
Thanks! I plan on covering all religions as some point, but Christianity is my primary target in this stage of the series. I can appreciate your sentiments, and if you want to live according to the "good parts" of the Bible, more power to you. However, I take issue with Christians trying to impose their beliefs upon me and other tax paying Americans through legislation, controlling of my actions and what I and others do with their own bodies. For this reason religion needs debunking.
I wouldn't say I live by them, I don't even consider myself to be a very good Christian despite being baptised etc. On the contrary some may call me a lost sheep lol. Not that It bothers me. I do still think certain scripture can be encouraging.
A great video outlining that the bible is not the source of any morals, not even for the christian. Since they cherry pick from it they obviously start out with what they believe is right and wrong in advance, then they shop for the verses they like to back it up.
Thanks again for the great video. I get in this debate quite often and your video provides tons of examples for reinforcing my point. I've been following your series since episode 1, very informative. I appreciate the effort you put in to making these videos and look forward to more.
Thank you Discovering Religion - as a former Christian myself, I was hoping someone wud address this issue as it is often used as a get-out clause from the nasty bits of the Bible. However the Matthew 5:17 (fulfil law) verse adds the lie to that premise.
2 b fair, I did hear something interesting about Grace & the Law:
Moses butchered 3,000 people when the 10 commandments were given and 3,000 people happens to be the number of people the apostles saved on the first day of Pentecost. Neat, huh?
Clearly that sounds like a mother fucker that created the universe. Worried about bullshit like salt, honey, and yeast.... yeeeeeaah..... lol@religious fuctards
This is important: The fact that some writings or others are attributed to Moses by the bible or other texts and schools does not mean that those were actually written or orally provided by Moses. In fact It's most likely that there are only much later oral and textual traditions of attributing laws and ideas to a mythological figure of "Moses" - a figure which might have had something to do with an actual person who might have existed long before. All scriptures attribute texts to their idols.
Perhaps people will get what I'm saying when I tell them I fear a Christian theocracy more than a Muslim one in the US.
200+ years of secularism might have toned Christianity down, but the authoritarian brutality is still in that damn book if they ever succeeded in making the law based on it.
Lol you won't get lessons like this in Sunday school. Thanks for all of your uploads. Hopefully more people will begin to realize the true beast that is Christianity.
I love your vids, thanks for them! This vid proves so well using the bible itsself that the laws of the old testament should still stand for christians today, and that they're hypocritical if they do not follow them. Thanks again.
1)I think otherwise. It's an *excellent* thing that christians don't follow the bible's teachings to the letter, otherwise society would once again be plunged into a barbaric muslim-like dark ages. Even the most fundementals are much more secular than they'd like to believe, so I have no complaints there. What's really annoying is when they cherry pick passages of that book to and insist that it's god's law and that others should abide by them.
2)What's funny is that they read the bible through thick filters and think it's something wonderful when it's clearly not by today's standards.
What's dangerous is, with god in the picture, anything can be justified, using that all powerful and all good image, as it's been done countless time in the "divinely inspired" bible.
@xxSilverPhinxx Yeah i agree with you, I'm just saying that they're being hypocritical and they should either adopt all the laws or drop them all. They can't have their cake and eat it. In that situation most would simply drop them all.
Those poor animals! I bet when the people walked up to a cow holding knives, the cow was probably thinking "Why the fuck are these stupid people walking up to me? What? What the...what the fuck are you...ahhhhhh!" (slash) Man: "is that good god?" God: (No reply) ; man: "I guess so."
@Introspective91 what about the way they slaughter animals today??? it is worse than the way they did it back then...look at the way the raise cows and chickens for our plates... it is just as sick...that's why I am in the transition of becoming a vegetarian...
were you aware salt was treated as money in the bronze age? therefore putting salt out on the food you left for god meant an effective tithe, the sacrifice was monetary.
this line is very political, probably a device to subdue the masses or a scam, in it's original form, i wouldn't be surprised to find out they would collect the money afterwards in those judaist temples.
Once again an informative and enlightening video. I hadn't thought of the Mosaic Laws vs. Jesus in that way before... should make for interesting discussion with Christians. Thanks for putting these together, and I look forward to the next installment!
Wait what? Christians are hypocritical people who cherrypick waht they agree with from the bible?? SHOCK!!
Well not really obviously =P
Well thought out video. Its nice to see some videos that go a little more in-depth once in a while. I feel I have a better fundamental understanding of the topic now than I had before even if I knew the basic elements of this problem from before.
I wonder if 1 Corinthians 5:7 is an interpolation? I thought the author of the Gospel of John was the only NT writer who would confuse the Passover lamb with a sin sacrifice.
One of the most frustrating things about trying to have an intelligent conversation with a religious person is their universal habit of cherry-picking and endless excuse-making for doing so. Either follow your stupid religion or don't. Or at least stop preaching at others to follow a religion you refuse to follow yourselves.
@1955RodHot So very true. Whats the point of a having a book of perscribed laws if you need to pick and choose what to use from it in order for it to be acceptable and palletable to you and the rest of society? When you have to do that, why not just define yoyr own laws? Oh wait... thats what we ended up doing wasn't it? ;P
Sacrifice for atonement is hardly limited to the bible in the ancient world. In fact, Judas would have been considered a hero for setting up the sacrifice of Jesus; a very classic hero story.
very interesting. I hope my children never have to see a government built on religion, but i fear the united states where i live is in danger of dogma and a creationist dictatorship with "god" on their side.
I have no problems with cherry-picking... but they must ADMIT they are! For once they do, they are asserting that THEY, the individual, have the power to assess what is right and what is wrong, and do not need to follow the ancient oppressive rulebook to the letter.
So where exactly does homosexuality become a sin, anyway? Leviticus says "Man shall not LIE with man as is with woman." (So does that mean God's okay with Lesbians? He never says anything about woman not doing women.) which implies no sex. But Jesus said just looking at a woman lustfully was adultery so would just looking at someone of your gender lustfully therefore also be a sin? I don't get it. They should really have been more specific. :/
Two separate things really. To explain it easily: The bible states that going against what's "natural"; sex between two members of the opposite sex, is a sin. Lust is a different sin altogether. The bible is quite specific though, usually saying that sexual contact between two members of the same sex is forbidden and guarantees your death.
I have yet to meet a Christian who doesn't cherry pick. Even my creationist neighbor/ cousin is a cherry picking expert. Do they just ignore what is unpleasant? How do they justify it to themselves? They have to close their eyes and cover their ears and yell NANANANA in order to keep their faith. It must be so tiring.
What a disgusting way to appease guilt. Anything to avoid going/giving to the actual wronged parties and being humbled before someone other than an imaginary friend...
It is not a payment, but the destruction of something to fulfill a personal desire.
Very informative and well done, as usual. Although even I had to turn away at the pictures of those sacrifices, and that's unusual. People can be truly disgusting sometimes...

Are you ready to die?
And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
Have u lied? Have u stolen? Jesus said if you look at a woman with lust you have committed adultery with here in your heart. have u done that?
If God judge’s u by the Ten Commandments will u be innocent or guilty? Heaven or Hell? Does this concern you?
Do u need a Savior from your sins?
Jesus came, lived a sinless life, died (for our sins) and rose again on the third day.

The Gospel is not about obedience to the ten commandment law written on stone it is about a righteousness that is received into the heart by God's gift of grace in response to faith (the obedience of faith). This cuts out imperfect human works. Grace brings us into complete harmony with the perfect righteousness that is demanded by law forensically and subjectively.
brianhyde63 6 months ago
If you read ALL of Mark 7, Jesus is very much undermining Moses's law.
He only uses it to appeal to whoever is speaking to, apparently.

@dionysius09 Why would a god care about what some living (by accident) creatures on one small planet in a huge cosmos do or don't do. That makes no sense and there's not a shred of evidence to support such a claim. Is there a deity? I don't know, I don't think so, but I know christianity is BS.
dutchbb1979 1 year ago
You seem like an intelligent person. So why do you waste your time, coming up with logical explanations for the ramblings in an ancient book that seems to have been written with no regards for logic. Apohenia I think that's called.
ASKaPHYSICIST 1 year ago
@dionysius09 What exactly is YOUR sin? Why are you paying for apparently committing some kind of sin even though you couldn't possibly have committed any before you were born? Why is God angry at all of mankind for our sin if the only people who committed the original sin were Adam and Eve? It makes no sense. I don't see why modern-day people are still paying for the sins of Adam and Eve since we couldn't have committed any sins before being born. Being born is a sin? God must be REALLY petty.

DiscoveringReligion 1 year ago
@DR
DiscoveringReligion 1 year ago
@DiscoveringReligion Enough of this, the man's trying in vain teaching the christian doctrine you think you know but have no knowledge at all about. I know that seemingly arrogant comment warrents venom but come on, Christ did not abolish the law, yes. Now, we are all sinners, from the smallest offence because of Adam and Eve, and sin deserves death and Hell, hence the death penalties dealed out. Now understand Christ's purpose; to redeem us of sin and thus death which we so deserve.
MrWadie123 1 year ago
You said yourself that He was the perfect sin sacrifice, since He cleansed us of ALL sins by His own death, why would we be killed for one of them anymore? God wanted to abolish sin's result for good. Our debts and crimes are forgiven and paid in Him! You see, Christ had not abolished the Law but the death penalty and the threat of Hell, the latter, at least for the believers who acknowledge the sacrifice. Christ's death had forgiven all offences aganst The Most High.
MrWadie123 1 year ago
If God has forgiven us of all offenses through Christ's FINAL sacrifice, then we are pardoned and God doesn't have to put us through the death penalty for ANY offense. He, in the long run, has saved the christians from Hell. We are all sinners, deserving of death and Hell but Christ saved us, without acknowledging and accepting His sacrifice, we will get that penalty in the next world if not this world.
MrWadie123 1 year ago
@MrWadie123
DiscoveringReligion 1 year ago
@DiscoveringReligion the "deaths" I was referring to were death penalty and Hell. But to answer your question, I confess that how I had worded my argument left me to be sniped in that position; abolishing and redeeming sin are truly two different things indeed. The ultimate result of sin was death and Hell, with physical death being linked to sin on the basis that God had wanted to end human life because of the knowledge they had gained from their sin. Sin was never destroyed but forgiven.
MrWadie123 1 year ago
Indeed, we are all still sinners. Even people who don't believe in the theological concept of sin can't say they haven't commited something considered to be a moral vice at least once a day, it's ingrained in human nature and thus death is, so you are right and in idiotically wording my argument I stand corrected. The effects of sin were never destroyed in the literal sense, but for the believer they are pardoned for their offenses against God and the final death of Hell.
MrWadie123 1 year ago
Finally, if not stated before, God never mentioned the abolishment of death penalty but since all sins have been pardoned by Christ, Christians do not conform to this on the basis that since sin was forgiven by one sacrificial death on a cross all the offences of humanity are then pardoned including these in the OT, all one has to do now is believe in Christ or die in his sins. All one has to do to conclude death penalty has become null and void is realize that our sins are pardoned by Him.
MrWadie123 1 year ago

DiscoveringReligion 1 year ago
@dionysius09
DiscoveringReligion 1 year ago
thank you so much, this video really cleared up in my mind, or at least add significantly, as to why Jesus Christ had to die. Only in the light of the sacrifices of the Old Testament, does the sacrifice of the body of Christ, and references like 'Lamb of God' makes sense.
IndoChink 1 year ago
There is big difference between Christianity and Judaism.
primary idea of Christianity if that Jesus can just erase all your sins. Even if all old laws are still valid you are free to ignore them, because you are forgiven anyway.
Only problem that officially remains is that you must be sure to ask forgiveness after your last sin and before death.
deltaxcd 1 year ago
0:44 Yeah, Christians see the OT as nothing more then historical value except the Ten Commandments, and oh yeah the verses condemning homosexuality!
6:23 Just as God created the World by His Word (Be?) why wasn't He capable of doing the same with forgiveness?
7:47 I don't need some new and improved "God". One is enough, capable of all things by HIMSELF.

It seems that people always complain how Christianity is given more attention that any other religion, and then they play ignorant to how that could be. Are they retarded? One, there is only one other religion that is trying to take over the world and its is talked about as well.
ThatGuyWhoSucksBoobz 1 year ago
@ThatGuyWhoSucksBoobz Actually Jeremiah 31:33 makes the law unavoidable because it says he will put his law into their hearts and minds. You can check the cross reference to "law" if you have a Bible close by. The Bible can't even agree on how many animals went on the Ark, chapter six was two of every animal. Chapter seven says seven of every animal.

ScienceWinsEveryTime 1 year ago
Top notch again, A.Z.! One of my favorite discoveries in reading the OT: The 10 Commandments are not the ones we are familiar with at all. In God's testimony to Moses, the injunctions we know of as the 10 Comms. are listed in Exodus 20, in the middle of a very long-winded diatribe and are never named as such. Exo. 34, however starts with God stating the creation of a covenant, then lists 10 rules of worship and sacrifice, which Moses immediately puts down onto tablets as the "Ten Commandments".
ScienceWinsEveryTime 1 year ago

8WholeThing 1 year ago
@8WholeThing

This is important: The fact that some writings or others are attributed to Moses by the bible or other texts and schools does not mean that those were actually written or orally provided by Moses. In fact It's most likely that there are only much later oral and textual traditions of attributing laws and ideas to a mythological figure of "Moses" - a figure which might have had something to do with an actual person who might have existed long before. All scriptures attribute texts to their idols.

Lpoolboy 1 year ago
@Lpoolboy
1)I think otherwise. It's an *excellent* thing that christians don't follow the bible's teachings to the letter, otherwise society would once again be plunged into a barbaric muslim-like dark ages. Even the most fundementals are much more secular than they'd like to believe, so I have no complaints there. What's really annoying is when they cherry pick passages of that book to and insist that it's god's law and that others should abide by them.
xxSilverPhinxx 1 year ago
2)What's funny is that they read the bible through thick filters and think it's something wonderful when it's clearly not by today's standards.
What's dangerous is, with god in the picture, anything can be justified, using that all powerful and all good image, as it's been done countless time in the "divinely inspired" bible.
xxSilverPhinxx 1 year ago
@xxSilverPhinxx Yeah i agree with you, I'm just saying that they're being hypocritical and they should either adopt all the laws or drop them all. They can't have their cake and eat it. In that situation most would simply drop them all.

@MsZekky I doubt it's tiring.

Absolutely beautiful. You really did your homework, and it shows through brilliantly.
This is the reason I am opposed to those who do not know their religion, yet spout off on it as if they know everything about it.

What a disgusting way to appease guilt. Anything to avoid going/giving to the actual wronged parties and being humbled before someone other than an imaginary friend...
It is not a payment, but the destruction of something to fulfill a personal desire.
Great video.

Mmmm Yahweh loves the smell of burnt lamb in the morning!
PS you never really cover any other religions than Christianity in this. Are you planning on covering others?

@Aresftfun yeah lets go beat on the buddhists next. Really tho, would be nice to see Islam and Hindu's soon.

@Aresftfun It's pretty hard debunking stuff your not familiar with like Islam and the Quran for example.

@MatchCard I know.
But he did at least read the bible for this and I am guessing it wasn't in his scripts since he wrote these a long time ago.

Another excellent video.
Wasn't it Mark Twain who said .. "Its not the things in the bible i dont understand that bother me ... it's the things i DO understand"!!

Very informative and well done, as usual. Although even I had to turn away at the pictures of those sacrifices, and that's unusual. People can be truly disgusting sometimes...

The Corinthians citation at around 7:17 has a spelling error, I believe. I think you meant to spell "sacrificed" not "scarified."

Oops, I didn't catch them all. Thanks for pointing it out

@DiscoveringReligion No problem. It's still a great video and I don't think it really detracts from the message. Keep up the good work.
